I have an ASUS transformer. Any questions?

Maybe not, if the APIs have properties that allows the look of the buttons to change.

I hear you, not saying it's a major change. But, it's no longer stock, I think, by definition.

FYI, I actually think the Asus buttons are cleaner. The stock Honeycomb buttons seem kind of fuzzy to me. They're also white and therefore brighter, which seems to make them easier to see.

Of course, I'm looking forward to getting one to compare side-by-side with my Xoom before I decide which one to keep. Really wish they'd go ahead and releas in the US.

The reason for my question is to determine how quickly the OS can be updated when Google release new versions of Android. If all of Asus UI changes are handled by widgets, applications, APIs and API properties, then there will be no problems with applying OS updates to this tablet when Google releases new versions of the OS.

Yes, that was a concern of mine as well. And that's why I'm a bit leery of the "fix" that Asus adopted for the SD card slot. If it's their own proprietary methodology, will we be waiting for that to be resolved before getting the first major Honeycomb update (which is presumably coming soon)?

Also, I'm sure that Asus will have to do at least some minimal testing on their own proprietary apps when Google releases new builds of the OS. And so, even just widgets and apps could slow down their release of the updates.

Just more food for thought...

Just to be 100% clear, are you saying it only charges via the power adapter when the unit is sleeping or off? Hmmm, that would seem to be something of a limitation.

And were you able to confirm anything more regarding trickle charging via a PC USB port?

No, charging via the AC adapter works fine and as expected.

When connected to the PC USB port, it will only charge when sleeping or off. i.e. you can't use it and charge at the same time.

Oh, okay, then that's pretty darn acceptable, and really a decent compromise.
I can see buying a second charger/sync cable (whatever they're calling it) and keeping it in my bag to trickle-charge periodically. Better than carrying an entire extra AC adapter as I'd have to with the Xoom.

Oh, and, thanks for all the info! Although in fact I curse you, because you're just making me even more anxious to get the darn thing. :D

Have you tried steaming video with Netflix? Have you connected it to a TV, and does it transfer at 1080P? (the iPad transfers whats on its screen at 1080p, but its screen is not 16:9, so not true 1080P ... not sure about the Xoom or new Samsung 10.1)

I am thinking about cancelling my Cable, and getting Netflix ... but I need an HDMI connection to my TV. I could buy a PS3 (and get gaming ... which would just eat up my time ), but a Tablet with WiFi might work perfectly with my new Thunderbolt (cancel Internet too?) ... just dock the keyboard to my TV

Cancelling Cable would save me $60/mo ... but cancelling both would save me well over $100/mo :D

Don't cancel just yet. There is no Netflix for Android right now. :)

Nope, but PlayOn TV works pretty well in Honeycomb. It's $40 first year, then $20/year thereafter, but it supports Netflix and Hulu. Since it doesn't require Hulu+ (which is required for their mobile clients) at $7.99/month, there's actually some savings there if you're a big Hulu fan.

PlayOn has some issues that they're working on, and depending on a lot of factors doesn't necessarily provide HD quality, but I've found it good enough in the meantime.

At the end of this video, you can see it transferring via the Tablet, to a Monitor/TV (it is very brief, and impossible to tell if it is 1080P) ... but the Specs on this are sweet: a SD and microSD, USB and microHDMI, and a Battery in the Keyboard and one in the Tablet ... and I like how the charger plugs in the Keyboard, so it truly is a Dock ... unlike the Acer Iconia. Of course Specs, and how it works in the real world, are sometimes very different :p

Oh yeah, the space on Honeycomb is dynamic, so no more allocation of device app space :) This means the internal storage can be used for apps or media (just like the Xoom).

1. Do you have a microsd to test to see if the port actually works? Xoom's does not, of course.

2. Can you tell if it has USB host or not? Perhaps needs the keyboard for that.

3. Odd there is no manual. Perhaps there is a PDF manual in the flash memory you can attach here? ;)

4. If you have seen a Xoom, or iPad (more likely), how does the display compare?

1. it does
2. need keyboard.
3. you dont need a manual with us here :p
4. used this side to side with the xoom. The display is basically the same. when the screen is off the Transformer screen seems more glossy, but not an issue with screen on.

Can anyone tell me what the voltages are on the USB lead that charges the Asus Transformer. I know that there is supposed to be 12V and 5V but I think my charger has died and want to know what voltages should be on what pins.

I hope it does trickle charge via a standard 5V USB when off otherwise I will not be able to use it once the battery is flat and I am not hopeful of getting a replacement PSU with the current shortage here in the UK.

Any help/advice much appreciated.

PS. Yes... I realise I may invalidate my warranty/guarantee if I mess about!

GAV I don't have one yet but I'm pretty sure it will not. As I am learning the tegra does not have the best codec support which is why I will still keep my Gen Archos 7". You will need to re encode your DIVX files.

BUT I hope that I am wrong.

Thanks for that I know it wont support divx out if the box but was wondering if rock player would work?

Hi,

Can you tell me if it can play Divx avi's please.

Thank you

I think it's almost to using the free version of Rockplayer. I have played loads of Xvids with it - I think that both Divx and Xvid are virtually identical. If you can point me in the direction of a specific Divx you would like me to try then I'll be only too happy to try it out for you.

Hope this helps.....

Anyone with an answer to my PSU and USB power connection details yet?
