Root Thunderbolt bootloader option screen

So I'm a complete noob when it comes to rooting and the Thunderbolt is my first Android phone. I went to Droid-Life and I downloaded the easy root and ran rooted.exe by the time i got to step 2 though it told me to go to the bootloader screen and hit power and to wait for it to flash. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the bootloader options are. I tried holding the power button and powering off the phone but that's obviously not it. Thanks

Alright thanks, everything worked fine but when i got into the hboot the one click process told me to press power and to let the ROM flash, what is the power though andcan I get step by step instructions from what to do from there.

oops, sorry i forgot to answer this yesterday

when the phone finds a file named "PG05IMG.zip" on the sd card after youve powered on into hboot, you will first see a blue bar as the phone reads the file, then a yellow bar(i think) as it checks it.

after the phone has deemed the file worthy of being applied as an update,it will prompt you "push power to update". this is why the directions are telling you to push power. to tell the phone to apply the update.

if youre not seeing any of the things mentioned above the reasons are:
1)the sd card is NOT formated FAT32
or
2)the file is incorrectly named. it must be EXACTLY named "PG05IMG.zip" or the phone will not see it.

a couple things regarding #2: the 3rd digit is a zero, not an "O". if youre using a windows machine,it is automatically adding the ".zip" to whatever you name the file. so if you typed in "PG05IMG.zip" the phone is actually seeing "PG05IMG.zip.zip"

hope that helps,if you hadnt figured it out allready. and again, sorry for the delay. :)

^^ almost exact scotty and a good writeup. just make the sure the file reads PG05IMG.ZIP ;)

it just clicked that i was typing in PB05IMG... sorry for the confusion. some eris and incredible residual info creeping out of my brain and onto the keyboard,lol... eris uses a PB00IMG and the inc uses a PB31IMG

edited for clarity. if you see it anywhere else let me know

i go to the bootloader screen to load the downgrade everything goes through. i used the thunderbolt easy rooter program. the downgrade loads fine i enter into the root program again it says click step 2 to continue so i do and this is what comes up with and error. damn that i click step 3 and it just restarts the phone. thats all and the software version is still 2.2.1. any one have any ideas

for whateverr reason, step 1 isnt pushing the neccessary things to the phone, getting temporary root, and writing the misc image so that the downgrade can take place(thats why you get the main version older error).

a couple things come to mind... if you havent gotten adb set up and working there is a specific download you should have used.are you uisng the correct download? are you running the rooter from within your root.rar folder? you also might make sure the root.rar is stored somewhere simple... like the desktop,or root of your C drive. last and not least,i found it helpful to have an adb command window open so i could check and make sure the phone was being seen before running each step. if its not being seen,a pc reboot might fix,as well as simply unplugging and plugging in the phone.

other than that,i used the "easy root" method and didnt find it so easy. if i were to do it again,id prolly just do it the manual way.

see this thread:http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/322897-thunderbolt-rooting-methods.html

there are a couple videos that take alot of the mystery out of ADB,and using it to root,as well as a couple other easy root methods.

i would prolly reccomend if the above things dont help, that you try another method.
