Accessories Who here thinks a case like the Otterbox is needed?

My Fiance got the defender for hers. I'm thinking that's overkill.
For the last year, I've had the OtterBox Impact Rubber sleeve on my BlackBerry 9700. It's been dropped, bounced, kicked across the locker room floor at the YMCA, and rolled down steps... there is not a scratch on the phone.

So, with my Atrix on the way, I just ordered the same case (OtterBox Impact) for the Atrix off Amazon for $10. It even comes with a screen protector.

The impact is a slip on. I've taken this thing on and off by BB 9700 over 100 times, from doing twice weekly battery pulls, to just cleaning. Its just as snug today as it was last year when I bought it.

Now, it does not just cover the sides, like the iPhone cases. These come up, over the edges of the front, and even down over the speaker.

I'm very picky, and I'm pleased enough with it that I'm going with the same one for my Atrix.

I have both the Otterbox Commuter & Incipio Feather cases. I used the Commuter for two weeks and gave up on it as it's exposed silicone areas attract too much dust. I prefer using the Feather now.

On impulse, I ordered another case, which is on it's way: Body Glove snap-on case with clip & kick-stand. Will post some thoughts on it after it arrives. Cheers.

I just picked up the feather case. I found a site and go it shipped for 15. I like how small it is so it wont effect the phone size. Thinking about the otterbox, in a matter of days it would have a nice custom dog hair finish. I fore see some problems pulling it out of my pocket with the silicone cover dragging the pocket along for the ride lol. I do admit it looks like the otterbox protects a better then the feather does.

With the OtterBox Impact on my 9700, It does attract pet hair (I have a dog and cats). But, it's so simple to take on and off, that dust and hair just rinse off in the sink with no scrubbing.

As for the dragging in/out of the pocket. I keep mine in my pocket and it's never really done that. It does have a little drag, but, I find that comforting as it's enough that it's not likely to just slip out of my pocket.

I bought the same one and it's very loose fitting will come off the phone even while holding it. I wasn't impressed with it at all. The one here is suppose to fit like a glove so we shall see.

I hate to hear that your Impact fit loose. I just ordered mine for my Atrix. I'll let you know how it fits. Hopefully, yours was a fluke.

The good news... OtterBox will make you happy! If you still have it, contact their support. They will usually replace it with another one. And, the last 2 people I knew that contacted them for a problem, they included (no one mentioned it, they were just in the box with the replacement) about a dozen of their high quality screen protectors.

I have Impact case.. Doesn't fit perfectly.. Bit loose, attracts lint..

But after using it for 10 days, getting used to it, it has nice grip.. I clean it every few days.. Protection is very good compared to feather case..
Searching for body glove case for my Atrix.. Surely won't opt for feather case because I feel it offers very less protection..

It's the nature of the beast. Clumsy and phones don't mix well

No doubt!
My last phone lasted about 8 years for me, being a Luddite and all. :cool:And that was without a case.
The Defender is here, wrapped around the new phone and I have to say: I really like it. The bulk of it feels pleasant and I do like the looks of it: Very professional. That should probably be in quotes. ha

When I take the case off, I will have spare glass around to change it out. :) I know how I am around glass.

I got my Impact case today and it fits perfectly. Not soo tight that you have to "Shoe-Horn" the phone in, or feel like you are going to rip it taking it out. Just snug enough that the phone has no play around inside it.
In fact, I think this one fits better than the one on my BB 9700.

Now, to the person that commented about the attracting lint/dust... they do at first. Give it a few weeks of use and it absorbs the oils from your hands. Then it's not so dry. In other words, you have to "Condition" it with your body oil. Not as gross as it sounds... LoL!

But, regards, I'd rather have lint/hair than scratches/cracks.

Okay here's my 2 cent review for the Otterbox Defender case.

It's not the worst I've ever owned, but far from the best. Perhaps I'm picky or it's flawed, I'm not sure yet...

Firstly, the inner-most hard shell of the case doesn't feel like it's completely snapping together... I've checked it and the locking plastic housing several times over trying to make sure everything is aligned correctly, undone, and re-snapped again... Something just isn't settling together well. But, as best I can tell it's together and secured.
So, now we move on to putting the rubber housing... for the most part it fits flush and around the edge of the screen, but towards the bottom right & left it's looser than anywhere else around the phone... not to where it's falling off or anything but just enough to be annoying and show a small gap. Here again, I've tried to check and re-seat it and make sure the slots are accurately in place, but nothing is fixing it.

The screen is fine, I've heard you should have an additional screen protector underneath the otterbox's built-in one, but it looks like crap, at least for me. So, I've tried it both ways... without one looks better and functions better.

The cut outs for all of the ports don't move well... or I should say go back in to place well... they come open fine, you just have to finagle with them to get them re-secured correctly.

Once everything is on, it appears to provide enormous amounts of protection from mishaps... it makes it ginormous, but its the otterbox defender, so that goes without saying.

I bought mine just to try it out and give it a shot, I know I ultimately want something I can easier dock and fit into my pocket, so no big deal.

Ultimately, the case feels rather cheap made and not like other otterbox's I've had in the past. Could be I just got a bad one, or how I sorta feel is they manufactured and market released it quicker than they should have. But again, there's so much bulk and layer to it, it can't help but protect your phone, lol.

There again, just my 2 cents... :)

EDIT: Ohhhhh.... I forgot about the fact of it being a lint trap! LOL... No, but really, I have read many ppl's complaints about this... and it does attract lint/dirt, however, my experience wasn't as horrible as some have been. Just a quick dust off has been good enough to get off anything that I've noticed get on it.

Hmm... I wonder what'd be the best way to sell mine, only had it less than a week and it's mostly been off of the phone. Anyone in Atlanta area let me know if you wanna buy this from me! LOL.

I just got my Defender ( from Amazon ) yesterday. It fits really well. This is my first case from Otterbox and if they are in business when it comes time for my next phone, I will buy another. I am highly impressed. The only thing I could think of that they could have done slightly better is the access to the charge port and it would be fantastic if they had their own car holder for it. It is bulky, but it just feels better. Really nice item.
