Xoom Online Petition for SD Card Info

Honeycomb was not designed for microsd. Android its trying to force contained storage like Apple and MS.

Even worse are folks that use rooted roms, since they will lose all but the primary internal space. Google seems to be dragging their feet in adding non primary storage locations to the framework.

Seems the Asus keyboards sd slot could have issues as well.

The fault is with Google and Moto, since one designed a newer OS that is VERY non primary storage friendly and Moto decided to release a device that exhibits the issue.

I am ignorant, ignorant of the world you live in where facts are plucked from thin air to suit our whims. Google does not control Motorola's decisions. It's not even up for debate. I don't understand why you would buy a Google OS powered device and then complain about what a horrible company Google is all day. Go get an iPad.

Here's some FACTS from an Wired article today:

Sounds like this whole "War against Motorola and/or Google" thing is a total non-starter. Who would've thought?

As far as the SD card issue goes, USB Host works just fine for now.

It was probably in the agreement wrt Xoom being the first/reference implementation of Honeycomb.

Forget the petition. With the release of the ASUS tablet, the hack is available thanks to XDA. Don't try to talk those who want to move to the Transformer, support them. We gotta give ASUS our thanks. If only they would release a tablet w/ Netflix

Yup saw this also on XDA. I would just be sure when this temporary fix for Asus is out that your not stuck with it, when the real update from Google comes around for our Xoom.

You have to root and void your warranty, in order to get something that Moto should have already applied due diligence to provide?

Nope, turn the petition volume on up to eleven! Must admit that Moto's effort with this has sucked butt, so far.

Well for everyone who demands that functionality now has a few options:
Take care of it themselves
Wait for someone to do it for them

How long did Android users wait for Bluetooth voice dialing? Are you willing to wait that long? If not, you can try screaming at them or you can return your Xoom and get something that actually fits your needs.

Good luck with either of those. When I get a little bit more time, I'll think about rooting. If they don't have the functinality at that time, they and their warranty can suck it. As much as I paid for this thing, I can do what I want with it.

I don't care about a warranty. If this device is too poorly put together to handle what I'm doing, why should I have any confidence that they can fix it? If it needs to be replaced, why the hell would I want another?

I agree with your points here. I took your advice and returned my Xoom. IMO it was/is not ready for prime time. I think I could deal with it if it was a cheaper alternative but that it isn't.

I hope that you get something really good. Everyone deserves to get value from their purchases. I really hate the idea of people spending a lot of money and suffering so. Everyone is starting to release things too early, charge too much for them, etc. The only remedy we really have is to not fill the pockets of those who not only do this but put us in a position where we can't fix it ourselves. While things are not perfect right now, at least there's a solution for some of the biggest nits I have. The solutions aren't elegant but neither am I so it kind of works out for me.

The fact that there isn't an elegant solution does not mean that everyone should settle for the solutions we do have but be prepared if they don't come soon. I feel badly for saying that I don't care about the warranty because I don't have confidence in their ability to remedy the situation should I need it. I am not trying to throw Motorola under the bus when the blame is certainly Google's as they really don't want people mounting SD cards and USB hosts because they haven't designed that far yet. Until they do this, every Honeycomb tablet that supports these things will be a "hack." I am glad that these devices are open source for now because I never would have bothered with it otherwise.

You introduced an obvious third option: Return the product. Why deal with it? Especially due to the high price point. If folks do not care about the microsd, no harm no foul, but to others, best to return before too late, or at least get a return waiver from the seller.

This will become a farce if other Honeycomb tabs release with working microsd, before Moto fixes this.

The key issue is Google does not want people using anything but internal storage. Google is trying to force out some of the very features people like about Android. OEMs have pushed back and now Google is trying (half a55ed) to add the function to framework, but may not be finalized until the next update of Honeycomb. Until then, OEMs have done their own workarounds, except Motorola.

because I'm also one of those Silver Premiere Members and I was told 14 days on these types of devices.

I did. I have 45 days because I have the WiFi version and NOT the Verizon version. The Verizon Xoom only has a 14 day return window.

I am not returning my Xoom at all (either for the Asus Transformer or Acer Iconia). In the Xoom I have a Pure Google Device (as the Nexus is on the phone side). The Nexus got Gingerbread before any other phone (unless some Dev baked it into their ROM). I feel this will happen with the Xoom. We will get the good updates first while the other tablets either wait for the update to be implemented into their respective manufacturer skin or wait for some Dev to bake it into a ROM. Thanks but No Thanks.

There's something to be said of having a Pure Unskinned Google Device. I don't want to wait for Samsung to incorporate Google Updates into their Horrible TouchWiz Skin. Ask Epic owners how Froyo is working out.

I'm not giving mine up either.

. I'm in for the long haul and I might even give Verizon wireless a shot on this thing later on since I wanted one so badly I couldn't wait for the wireless only version. :rolleyes:

Yeah I returned mine but may get one when the price drops and it will drop shortly from what I have heard.

I have an IPAD 2 now and I must say for regular day to day use it sure does seem light years ahead. ( I know it's not but just feels it)

I just prefer using apps to the browser for some reason.

The other thing that I noticed is the weight. I didn't think the Xoom was heavy at all but the IPAD 2 just seems so much lighter when I am on the couch watching TV with it.

Good for you. Hope you enjoy Uncle Stevie telling you what you can do with your device. Hopefully every site you visit uses HTML 5 and not Flash. Hope you bought their 32gb unit as there is NO Expandable Memory. Get used to iTunes as it's your only way to transfer Music/Movies as you don't have USB for Drag & Drop. I had an iPad 2 and took it back to get a Xoom. Too many restrictions on the iPad 2 and I don't like someone telling me what I can do with what I purchased.

In fact you don't need to donate. If you see the donation page, your vote was already registrated.

I see a lot of emotions in the discussion about this topic which I can not comprehend. It will take at least half a year, until I really need an expansion. If I need it at all.
The reason is that the Xoom will not replace my iPhone, which has 32GB on it's own.
Not even 400 votes yet in the petition is a lousy result will not worry any Moto manager. I think the impact of the SD card topic is currently overrated, especially if there are easy fixes available.

I'm happy with my Xoom because I did expect worse considering the maturity of the OS. -In opposite to my iPhone where my high expections where disapointed.
