COMPLETELY lost data connection!!!

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

For the past 4 days I have had connectivity issues. Yesterday, I was late for a meeting because I couldn't get Google maps to work. I decided to take a cab, but I couldn't get the address b/c my internet wasn't working!

This morning I couldn't get onto the internet, and there were no emails on my phone.

THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING!

The VZW technical support (using the term VERY loosely) had me do a factory reset (which I had already done- WHY do they insist on making you re-do things you have already done in an attempt to fix things?!?). I had already done several battery pulls, etc.

Then- WITHOUT checking it had fixed the problem- he said, "Well, if it happens again..." at which point I interrupted and told him it was STILL happening, and that the second factory reset had not fixed the problem, either.

Long story short- they are sending me a replacement. A refurb. I. Am. PISSED.

My next step is to remove & reinsert the sim card.

GRRRRRRR.

Yep. I returned my first phone because of several problems. When,my replacement arrived no data connection! On the phone with support who, btw seemed to know less than do, no working solution. I was told to call back the next day and if still no data they would send me a third device. About mid way through the next day it got 1x hours later 3g no problems since.
Good luck :)

Thanks. I was ranting there. But, I pulled the sim and reinserted. No connectivity issues now.

I will monitor until Tuesday, when my replacement will be arriving. (It's supposed to be Monday, but it's the Boston Marathon, which runs past my place, so Fed Ex hasn't a chance is Hell to get to deliver anything that day.)

Depending where you live most roads reopen at 2:30. Obviously not the case if you live past Wellesley area

This seems to happen to me in areas where there's spotty 4G coverage. The phone would go to 1x mode and will not get any data. When this happens, I use LTE OnOFF TeamAndIRC (see linky) to put the phone into 3G mode only. And then it works perfectly. And when I'm back in an area with solid 4G coverage I re-enable LTE.

Not true. In the middle of full blown 4g coverage but it acts up sometimes inside my house. Go to my work which is about 5 miles out I get great 4g coverage.

Have you tried disabling 4G to see if you get a decent data connection? #*#*4636*#*# will get you into the menu and you tap on "Phone" and change it to CDMA auto (or something similar) and it'll connect only to 3G. See if that gets you a data connection, if not then it may be an issue with your local tower.

Im having data issues too. My data either is constantly turning off and back on or "getting stuck in upload" (Only shows data being upload and acts as if the internet is not responding), or even both of these issues. Its happing on my moms phone to and its not just at my house. Its been all over the place today.

I just tried pulling the Sim, Iv tried switching to 3g only/4g only and it still has the issue. Very annoying.

I downloaded an app called "Restart Connections" which seems to sometimes help if I'm having data drop issues. It's just an icon you put on one of your homescreens and tap it once and your connection disappears and then comes back. Has helped me out in the past. Could be something to try?

I used this - it only worked once. After that, it would only make my screen flicker but would have no effect on the connections.

I'm in a full 3G area - nearest 4G is 2 hours away and my connection gets lost 2-5x a day. I don't think it has anything to do with 'fringe' areas. I used LTE on/off and kept it on 3G only but it didn't help any either. Not sure what this issue is but I'm thinking as long as the Thunderbolt release took, maybe it should've take a wee bit longer.

Just FYI, you MAY need to get a new sim. I had my phone repaired and my old sim was dead. I was told that it was retired the moment my enV3 went back on my account.

I'm not sure if this fits here, but I didn't want to start a whole new topic for a similar issue. I've had my Thunderbolt for about two weeks, now, and I haven't had any problems keep a 4G signal. I did download that LTE OnOff app, because for a little while, I was using it to set it down to 3G, to save battery life, but I've been leaving it on 4G lately.

Today, though, I could only get a 1X data connection, with the original 4G setting left on in the LTE OnOff app. Interestingly enough, though, when I changed the LTE OnOff app to the 3G setting, I did get back on 3G data, but as soon as I tried to change it back to the 4G setting, my data went back down to 1X. Which is odd, because I thought even on the 4G setting, if it can't get the signal, it just defaults down to 3G. So why was it going down to 1X, unless I set it to the 3G setting in LTE OnOff?

Should I be concerned? Or is it more likely this was just a fluke, for today? Like I said, I've had zero issues with maintaining a 4G connection for the last couple of weeks. Seems odd that I'd suddenly not be able to get it, today. Silly question, but does the weather outside have any effect on the signal? It's been VERY windy, today, more than it's been in the last couple of weeks, so I dunno if that could maybe mess with the 4G signal at all...?

My TBolt when I still had it continually went out over and over again...

I am no where NEAR a 4g connection, but it continually lost 3g and would require a factory reset to fix the phone.

Ex: I returned this crap and reactivated my Droid.

I think it's becoming abundantly clear that Verizon pushed this phone to market way to early in it's 4g evolution. Most likely due to Market pressure.

I think unless your in a direct 4g painted zone e.g. NYC, we will continue to have data issues like so many are reporting. Some may be sim card / Hardware related and some may be zone / auto-registration related. Verizon is years away from having a mature enough 4g network to be able to offer 4g phones like they plan. We're all seeing this in the multitude of delays with 4g phones coming from this carrier.

Basically... buyer beware.

I haven't (but will, thank you). I lost data connection in Charlestown on Friday, and Saturday in Brookline (home).

The phone was fine until this morning. When I turned it on this morning- no data again.

I just got off the phone with VZW customer service to let them know that the never sent my Fed Ex tracking number.

I'm compiling a list of things to check on the replacement phone.

What a PITA.

Good thinking. I just had this conversation with the tech support person this morning. The first guy seemed to think that the sim card had "nothing to do with data." HUH?!?!?

The girl this morning agreed that replacing the sim would be the next step.

Returned mine yesterday because of this issue. Sucks! I really liked the TBOLT. Back to my old DINC and no more problems though. Screen looks so TINY now....but the battery seems much larger ;)

Two questions for you:

1- Did you get a refund for what you spent on the TBolt?

2- Did you get your contract date reset to your original?

Thanks!

I originally bought on a 1-year contract from a small non-Verizon store that a friend of mine owns. After telling the guys that run it several times of my issues, they assured me that I had 30 days to return it (I was well aware of Verizon's policy change, but figured it didn't effect non-corporate stores). On day 28, I took it back only to have them tell me I'd have to pick another TB or something else on the shelf. After some string pulling, I have left my contract as is, reactivated my old DINC and am waiting as long as I can to see what new phones pop up.

Who knows what will end up being workable, but I'm leaning toward pushing for a DINC2 and if that isn't do-able, I will pick up a shiny new TB and try my luck.

My cousin has a TB in the same town and has zero issues so I'm willing to try again, but I expect it will be more of the same until VZW/HTC provide a fix.

So, to answer your questions:
1. Not completely settled yet, and
2. No. (**according to my store, this is going to be the big issue)

They did say they would work with me to make right for the misinformation. I would love to settle for the DINC2 and keep my 1-year contract but that might result in some red flags on the VZW end since the DINC2 will arrive in the post "1-year contract" era.

Well, after receiving the new TBolt, I put my SD and sim card in aaannnnddd........NO DATA.

So, back to tech-support land I go. This time, I lucked out and got a really cool guy named Kevin, who took my word on what I had done with the previous phone and with the new one.

And guess what? He said it was a bad sim card. Now, if, the FIRST tech guy had listened to me, this could have been resolved days ago (or so I thought). Kevin was kind enough to call the corporate store and make sure they had plenty of sim cards for me to go get. (Funnily enough, the female tech support person I spoke to this morning told me that I could *not* simply walk into a store to get a new sim, and that the new "policy" was that they had to be Fed Exed. Ummm, okay....)

So I went to the corporate store and at first they could not activate the phone. The issue? SOME VZW SUPPORT PERSON HAD CHANGED MY ACCOUNT TO REFLECT A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PHONE. How did this happen? The manager told me it was likely that another person called and mistakenly gave my number instead of theirs, and the VZW employee never went back into my account to fix the changes they had made.

Long story short- my original phone was fine, the sim card was fine, it was a SNAFU on the part of some random VZW employee that did not do what they were supposed to do. (I am keeping the new phone and the new sim card just in case.)

W....T....F

In any event, I actually feel better that this was the issue and not that the phone was a mess. Additionally, the new phone/sim combo gives me better 4g coverage than the old combo in my home.

Fingers crossed for no more problems!

If this turns out to be your issue, I will return to the thunderbolt rather than the dinc2. My local store did change out my sim card and it didn't fix a thing...not even initially. Despite doing it over the phone with vzw tech support, they may have done something wrong, I hope it was them!

I will be watching your story. Don't forget to update please!

I do not think it's simply a snafu at Verizon that affected your data connection. My TB was holding a rock solid 4G for the first couple of weeks. But now it will intermittently lose it's 4G and drop all the way down to 1x.

However, when this happens I use the LTE On/Off app to manually drop it to CDMA Auto/PRL, wait 30 seconds, and then renable LTE. And my 4G immediately comes back.
