Root xtrSENSE vs GSB!

The Eris will be around for quite a while - it was terrific when introduced, and is a great phone today.

For those who need a basic smartphone and not a toy, it remains the smallest and lightest android phone ever offered.

I agree... I was excited by the latest technology, but I started to ask myself why? What is it that the new phones do that the Eris doesn't already do? Is it that the screens move a little faster? Whoopty frickin doo.... lol

On some of them, Netflix? But how many of us will be watching Netflix on our phones on a regular basis? Who has this kind of time on their hands? On some of them, video games? Is that really what we need our phones for either? Or live wallpapers... Oh yeah, now there's a must-have. Or maybe it's the dual core, doubles as a slow laptop deal? After you spend $500, you could have bought a cheap laptop that was 1000x more powerful and did far more.

The only thing I see coming up that the Eris doesn't do and may become a must-have is 4g, but I'm not particularly in love with the idea of increasing my monthly bill on what those cash sucking vampires call "luxury" either.

The Eris is the "smart"-phone that is missing some of the toys. It has a seriously rugged display, it's built solid, and does what it needs to do.

It's a little slow in some areas, but it gets the job done. It is kind of like the old pick up truck you just never bother trading in because it still serves it's purpose for what you need.

One more thing.
I don't know of other smartphones that make it into PagePlus. Using a discount reseller, I pay about $28 per month (no fees or tax!!!) for 1200 minutes talk time, 2000 text/picture messages, and 100MB of data. That's about $350 PER YEAR for everything I need, and it's on Verizon's network. That, plus the rooted Eris on GSB, and the Nook eReader with the family library, is a very satisfying combination.

Yes, I'll keep my Eris for a while. In fact, writing this made the decision for me. It's off to Craigslist to buy a spare...

That's just sick. I'm going to have to look into that.

//oops, just looked at my plan, and it turns out I have already used 500mb in 5 days. Not sure how that happens, but um....

That was a good write up. That would go good with these.

i agree with everything said about the lil guy. he works well, does his job,and doesnt complain. he got me into rooting and has put up with alot of different things.im also using him to learn how to do things in ADB  he will stay around when the others have come and gone.

that said,i like the 4.3" screen on my TB. and 4g is reeaaaaly fast :D its not needed, but its fun  at times i need to use my phone to find places and route to them. the eris worked, but the smarter smartphone does it a lil better ;) i also surf the web alot, and even sometimes watch tv on my phone at work when theres no deliveries :p:)

"the eris will be dead in 4 months" ? yeah, that was an extremely inciteful and helpful post

Uh-oh!
ADB?
To this ancient contra-geekian whose Eris dragged him screaming and kicking into rootological mysticism, that looks like trouble.
ive made backups, wiped and flashed roms, restored backups, restored my non-engineering bootloader, unrooted and rerooted, and even pushed recoveries all thru ADB. lil buddy is holdin up fine :D

Old time geekness. :D
:cool::cool::cool:

I am curious if there is an app for wired tethering that is actually worth a try? I gave easytether a shot, and it was "ok," but a little glitchy (shut down my entire laptop when I browsed to youtube.com, and failed the first 5 times I tried to install it on my laptop).

If your running xtrSense, wired and wireless tether are already installed on the rom.
