'Dillo Hills [Development]

Well I guess fex forgot about us! Should have bought a Mc Double instead!

I'm still here!

Working on Dillo Hills is not my full time job (much to my dismay!), and a handful of other obligations came up over the past week or two that have been keeping me very busy. Fortunately, things are finally starting to settle down, and I'm picking back up on more bug fixes and improvements for Dillo Hills.

John has already been hard at work on some of the new metagaming features, and I've started tackling bugs (tutorial popups not disappearing, dying on mushrooms, pausing on loading screen, etc.). We've also been working very closely with some wonderfully helpful folks from FGL, Blackberry, and Adobe to discuss improvements and opportunities for the game.

As always, I don't want to make any promises, but I can assure you that I have not disappeared, and I'd very much like to have the next patch for Dillo Hills ready by next weekend.

Cheers!

Kudos Fex for taking pains to reply to so many of your fans and pretty regularly too!

For Dillo Hills, I want to buy the full version since I have been interested in the game since the hills in it looked like from Tiny Wings.

But I have to play it on the Low Quality settings on my Samsung Galaxy Tab and that is keeping from buying it or even enjoying it!

You have mentioned you do not do Dillo as a full time job, but pretty puhlease! Can you get us a faster version of Dillo Hills? *Puppy eyes

As far as the game is concerned, GREAT gameplay! Would love to see more games from you.

And how about a 2 player online/bluetooth version!?? A race of two Dillos? Please please please please!!!! If there is anyway I can help you, I will! :D

Optimization is still on the list. There isn't a whole lot more we can squeeze out of the game without completely rewriting it in another language, but what we're actually focusing on now is making the game look better at lower settings without hurting performance, since that's what the majority of our players are using. What we'd ultimately like to do is make "low" quality graphics look so good that we don't really even need the "medium" or "high" graphics.

Awesome, I'm really happy to hear that!

I'm honestly a little bit disappointed that the game doesn't run well on a lot of devices, because it really is quite addictive when it runs well.

Anyway, we've got plenty of other ideas floating around in the back of our heads. For now, the main focus is still getting Dillo Hills polished up before we launch on other platforms (we'll be available on the BlackBerry Playbook when it goes live next Tuesday [runs at high settings at a smooth 30FPS!], and we hope to have an online Flash version and an iPhone port available shortly afterward), but after that, we'll start hammering out some of our ideas until we've decided on a winner. (Hopefully, something that doesn't involve dynamic texture scaling! :p)

And how about a 2 player online/bluetooth version!?? A race of two Dillos? Please please please please!!!! If there is anyway I can help you, I will! :D

Hahah, this is actually something we've had on the whiteboard since the very start. I think this genre would work beautifully with a multiplayer/race twist, but that might be something we save until AIR's market penetration is a little higher and hardware has had a little bit longer to catch up.

I made an account just to comment and give some feedback on Dillo Hills, so I hope this helps!

First I just wanted to say that I had followed Dillo Hills three weeks before it even came out in great anticipation: I got the game within an hour of it being on the android market. When it first came out I was disappointed since I have a Droid original and it did not run well on mine. Fortunately, after the first few updates my Droid is now able to run perfectly fine on the low graphics, which is fine for me, so thank you for that(It can also run decent on medium)! Also, I wanted to tell you to keep up the great work since I love the game and its sad to see some of the reviews that are so harsh since your not an exact copy of Tiny Wings. Personally I like Dillo Hills more than Tiny Wings and I am eagerly looking forward to more updates on this game!!!

Well, if I run it on low/medium, with airplane mode on, and as many running services as I can cut off on my phone, with the CPU locked at 1.27gh/z, it'll run smoothly up to like... area 7 or 8. After that, for some reason, it like to start chugging when I get to area 9 and I always fail because the frame rate spikes between ~14fps to 44fps a lot. Controls lag behind a good deal at that point.

As far as playing it normally, I.E. not shutting everything off to give the game full system resources on my Evo, it'll run sub-par to average ranging from a constant 14-20fps to sticking around 30 until around area 5, then it's just chugging so badly I usually just let the dillo get all depressed from walking up the hills that he passes out. Poor guy never stood a chance.... lol.

Thank you very much for your useful report - are you running this on the Evo 4G?

I think I'm the only person in this thread that is unable to pass Level 2...actually I usually die after a few seconds in the 2nd level XD
Ditto that for me, Roze. You're not alone! :) But then again I haven't had much time to sit down and really play the game over and over. Hopefully this upcoming weekend will give me a chance to play some games I've been meaning to get to.

I don't think my landing timing is right cause usually when I press down, the Dillo falls AFTER the hill crest :/

Fex...you need a detailed how to play manual/instruction or someone here can make one? :)

Thanks so much to everyone who's already enjoying Dillo Hills! We're still working hard to make it better! :D

And even more thanks to everyone who has taken the time to file a report when the game doesn't work on their phone, instead of just rating the game down. We know that the game's hardware requirements are very high, and your reports have been very helpful to us as we try to get the game running on more devices!
