@ eddie & spike

there is not much info on here about custom ROM's, i suggest you head over to XDA and have a good read!

All the info and programs are there that you need the only thing you have to ask yourself is....dam..which one do i pick!!

most ROMs are fully functional and work great but before you start messing....once you have installed xrecovery......BACK UP YOUR OWN ROM otherwise you will have to start from fresh!!

its a simple as putting the files on your SD card, booting to xrecovery and selecting the ROM you wanna try and hit yes

go hunting boys lol

Any tips on where I can start please?? Like a link or something? Pretty please?? :D:D

First....do a Google sync backup....backup your contacts and all that.

Then flash, then root, then install xRecovery, then you can install custom ROMs.

Now that I have done it, it would take me 15-20 minutes tops to go through the whole process. First time it took me about 60-90 minutes or reading and double checking.

It's pretty hard to mess up....and if you do, the errors are usually really easy to fix....like you did something in the wrong order and you have to try again.

the hardest thing...in all honesty is choosing what ROM is best.

as beau said...backup your contacts with google so you know there safe.

My advice...never restore apps or data...install your old apps on the new ROM fresh....so make a note of what you use so you can install them easily.

I always do that and dont get 1/2 the probs other people do

Since I plan on flashing my phone again in about a week, I also downloaded and installed AppBrain. Signed in using my gmail account. And I also backup all the apps I have installed. I have a set of like 20 apps I use frequently.

So after I do a flash and I am left with the bare necessities, then I connect to my wifi....I install AppBrain from the Market. Then I signin to AppBrain, click Sync and it starts installing that list of 20 frequent apps I have. Saves me time and helpful because I can't remember the name of every app I have...but I know what all of them do.

But yeah....keep it clean....

to be honest i dont really use appbrain

just go into manage applications in settings and write them down...only takes 5 mins

Well, 5 minutes to copy....then after you flash/update phone, you still have to logon the Market and manually type in each app name...choose it....click OK a few times and then do the next...repeat for another 5+ minutes.

I like installing AppBrain, loging in using gmail account...click the Sync button and it batch installs all my apps, all I have to do is keep clicking OK and OK and OK and OK until it's all done.

If you have more than 10 apps loaded and don't want to have to write anything down....or you like batch installs and batch updates....give AppBrain a try.

Also has a cool recommendations feature where it looks at all the apps I have loaded and it suggests other apps I might like.

If you plan on flashing your phone more than once....do it.

ok...last time i looked..it only showed the apps installed on my phone at the time...so after the flash...if i had installed nothing...it shown nothing!

It links AppBrain to your gmail account and it keeps track of all the apps on my phone.

I can also publish my entire list of apps and send them to any friends....so they can take a look at the list of apps I have loaded and click and install them if they want.

After I flash from scratch and install AppBrain and login using my gmail account it...click into AppBrain and click the Manage Apps button, then click Sync....then it starts loading that list of apps.

Alright guys! Been 2 hours! And I've.. FINALLY DONE IT!
I've rooted it, installed the XRecovery tool, installed JIT, frozen lots of apps,
TO be honest! it really has made a difference.. It's super fast! But little lag spikes sometimes..
But when the phone is restarting and loading things.. It takes like longer..
but when it's done it's loading.. it's speeeeed

is it best to get xrecovery before you reformat (or flash?) your phone?

i cant find xrecovery on the market.. i have rom manager installed though??

Depends what you wanna install.

I wanted to install the most up to date ROM...and I hadn't done my multi touch update at the time. So I did a firmware flash....then after that I installed the ROM.

Now...in order to install xRecovery, you need root access....root first, then xRecovery.

I did this - http://androidforums.com/x10-all-things-root/272949-flashtool-guide-how-n00bies.html#post2243502

FLash and root....

Then Busybox and xRecovery -

Can I just ask.. What is busybox? What does it do? I've installed it, but I didn't use it in the flashing part? :S

https://market.android.com/details?id=stericson.busybox

BusyBox is a software application that provides many standard Unix tools, much like the larger (but more capable) GNU Core Utilities. BusyBox is designed to be a small executable for use with the Linux kernel, which makes it ideal for use with embedded devices. It has been self-dubbed "The Swiss Army Knife of Embedded Linux".

Let's your phone install stuff that it normally doesn't allow you too.
