OTA update jan 8.

I agree. Based on perception if feels faster. I have noticed certain things feel quicker. This is not beyond the realm of possibility. While writing the code to fix the lock issue they may have optimized some other code, which may or may not speed things up which is why they would not list it as a part of the update. Call it a boon.

Bronx.
Got my update.

I wouldn't be surprised if zippiness is just the usual fact that a freshly rebooted phone is zippier than one with an uptime of several days. The update may clear out caches and stuff as part of the installation.

It's been over 24 hours since I got the update and I can say it HAS made a world of difference for my phone. It's kinda like putting on glasses when you didn't know you needed them, then being like "wowwwww." The lag I had just assumed was the price to pay for asking such a small processor to do so much, and hanging up phone calls is just a click of a button and *poof* back to what I was doing. Might seem like small potatoes if you didn't have these problems, but for me, it's a relief to know it was a software issue and not hardware. Wonder what else will get slicker as software updates continue.

Got the update when I woke up this morning, in Western NY. No idea of it's made a difference: I actually forgot the update came this morning (woke up to it, accepted the update half-awake, then went back to sleep for another 20 minutes and didn't remember it'd happened til reading this thread and double-checking my build number).

Can't really say my phone's been any more responsive on the whole, but at the same time, I don't remember ever getting lag to the point where I needed to run a task killer, which is I suppose unusual for my usage patterns. Also, my battery level is a bit higher than it normally is by this point in the day (I'm at 42%, and I rarely make it past sundown above the 25% line). Could easily be a coincidence, but I'm at least confident in saying that the update didn't make my phone any worse.

I will say that my Youtube issue wasn't resolved, but honestly, I'd rather have HTC working on getting 2.1 to me as quickly as possible (especially now that the SDK's been released) than fixing a Youtube problem in a soon-to-be-even-more-outdated OS.

Finally got my OTA update this morning! It has made the phone a little snappier and, as a bonus, now my Handsense SMS audio notification actually works while I am on the phone. I was shocked to hear that "beep". I thought that check-marked box for the Sound on Call was just there as a joke...

It was only fixing the sliding issue. How did you get all that fixed. I think it's because your phone restarted maybe or the patch cleared some cahce, or something of that nature.

I have not a clue. But I have a notification while in a call for the first time in three weeks. You poo-poo it all you want. It works now and I am happy. Period. Get off my cloud! :D

Oh, and I NEVER had a sliding issue in the first place...

My update was waiting for me this a.m. when I got my phone from its "spot" before work... Wasn't having the problems (freezing or youtube) that I've been reading about in this thread, so I'm not sure what this was for... I was kind of hoping this was a "prep" necessary for the upcoming upgrade.

I will say something is now different in my status bar. The "cross hairs" icon used to display two curves - kind of like )) only the first ) was smaller - immediately to the cross hair's right whenever I turned the GPS feature on. Now they are on always. I even tested to make sure the GPS off widget was working by switching the phone to airplane mode, and those "waves" stayed on in the status bar.

Anybody else experiencing this?

Is your Settings > Location > Location Setting checked? When that is unchecked, you just get the crosshairs. When you check it, you get crosshairs and the ))
I always leave all 3 items checked on the page and I always have the crosshairs and )) ever since I got the phone. But, I always have GPS enabled too, but the GPS icon only shows up when I start Google Maps, Compass or GPS Status. I left the 3 checked and turned off GPS, but I still have the crosshairs and )). I've never seen the )) toggle on and off before unless I check/uncheck the Location Setting option.

But I will say one thing, after the update, my phone and my wife's phone are eating batteries. I took my phone off the charger (6:30pm) 1hr27mins ago, awake = 18mins and I'm at 88% already. My wife takes her phone off the charger when it's full, before bed at night and it was dead by noon. It always makes it through from about 11pm to 9pm (almost 22 hours) before hitting the red/low level. Something is up with this update.

I also have some problem with the phone being dim after I wake it up. This also just started with this last OTA update. I have to End call to turn off screen, then End call to wake it up again to get it bright. It's random, but it happened just a few mins ago again.

Update 10:07pm MST I decided to uninstall the last 2 things I added in the past week. AK Notepad and World Forecast Clock Widget and I removed Screebl Lite as well. I rebooted. Checked the phone is sleeping, which it was sleeping before. Battery is 76% I waited about 35 mins and the battery is 75%. I reinstalled Screebl Lite, it's been 35 mins and the battery is 74%. So, in 1hr 10mins it was 2% vs 1hr 27 mins 12%. So, maybe it was one of the apps I removed. I'll add them back and keep checking. I also turned GPS back on. The icon is not on unless using a GPS application, so it should be okay like it's been for over a month.

Update 10:58pm MST battery 72% uptime 2:07:53 awake 0:15:37 So, it's gone down 2% in another hour. Down 4% in 2hrs 5mins. So, with Screebl Lite re-added, it's still okay.
I still need to try the other 2 programs again to see if it's one of them eating the battery.

Update 8:11am some details...
8:55pm 76% I uninstalled the last 2 programs from a week ago and screebl and turned off GPS
9:29pm 74% reinstalled screebl
10:15pm 74% turned GPS toggle back on like it has been for > 1 month
11:00pm 73% just started playing about 15 mins of music over 3G
11:21pm 63% stopped music and went to bed
8:11am 56% got up and checked the phone.

With 9hrs idle overnight, it went down 7%.
That is down 23% in about 11hrs 20mins with playing music for like 15 mins.

Great! my phone is back to being good again.

Thanks! That was it. I guess I probably had this unchecked prior to the update.

My update came this a.m., as I said, and I let it "run" on my drive to work while plugged in to the car charger.

I can't say that my battery life has been impacted yet. I hope that it isn't any worse... when I have everything (GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth) turned on battery life is quite bad. But as a Verizon associate showed me when I traded in my Droid for this, I put the toggles on one of my screens for each of these and keep them off unless I'm using them as the phone will constantly scan for them (i.e. - that's why the wifi settings will state a learned network is not in range). This has DRASTICALLY helped.

And if I'm not mistaken, the location setting also shortens battery life. Not having it checked won't mean the phone won't display your location correctly (like in weather), but it may have to be enabled for google maps to work once we get the 2.0/2.1 update... not sure.

... BUT when I kill all tasks in Advanced Task Killer, my screen resets and has to load again.. kinda annoying but manageable. Anyone else with this?

Thanks,

Ben

You might want to try changing ATK to ignore the HTC Sense "app"... :)

(You might want to just try updating ATK in the marketplace app... IIRC, I think the curent version might ignore most system apps automatically.)
