***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

i have FROYO 2.2 on my Fascinate and under the stock browser settins you can select which search engine to use. BUT this is very old news. I am looking for GINGERBREAD!

I tried that on one of the leaked 2.2 ROMs and it didn't worked. It would still usually search with Bing, regardless of what search engine I set in my browser. It was really frustrating.

SuperClean FTW!

Same here. Playing phone tag as well. Step away to get coffee, and leave my phone on the desk just once...

I was in meetings all morning and received calls from 3 different departments. Returned all the calls late this afternoon but of course by that point everyone was unavailable.

I have to say what I'd like to see is an apology and maybe some credits. I really like my Fascinate and the only way I'd upgrade is for 4G. (or maybe dual core? Rumor: Samsung to release 2GHz dual-core phone, as powerful as some PCs).

Got in touch with a person at VZW from their Executive Office department. Highlights of the conversation:

* Just because we sell you hardware that needs a certain software update to function doesn't mean we'll ever push that update to devices (In this case, the desktop cradle requires 2.2 to get the audio out to function).

* We're sorry we're the slowest when it comes to updates, but it's all the manufacturer's fault, not ours.

* We don't care that you'll leave Verizon Wireless; because all the carriers are the same as us.

* The 2.2 update shows an Approval date of 4/14/2011; but no expected OTA date.

My .02 and it might have already been said. The average user doesn't know the difference between 2.1 and 2.2. (The only ones that do are one that have been informed by people "in the know")

My girlfriend has a Vibrant which I upgraded via Kies to 2.2. She has yet to see any noticeable difference. I've played with her phone and the only thing I miss is the install to SD option (had that on my Eris KaosFroyo). The option to turn off 3G I think was available too. The behind the scheme programming changes aren't noticeable to the average user. That said this community is honestly a vocal minority which Verizon simple doesn't seem to care about.

Anyone who has any of the docks notice the difference right away :) Without it, the audio out ports don't work. With it, they do.

This is exactly what I was afraid of. No apologies, credits or other compensation offered. Instead we get a cold "how dare you go to the top to complain" sort of reprimand. I only received a voice mail to return a call (still playing phone tag) but from the tone of her voice I felt like I was being called into the principal's office! So much for my list of demands.....

Definitely don't feel like YOU'RE the one being called into the principal's office... THEY are the ones being called into the office.

They work for you. You don't work for them. She was quite taken aback when I listed some of the issues with the phone (GPS lock not working, phone freezes, etc), and she said, "Well, did you call tech support?" I replied back with,"No, because I don't have hours upon hours in the day to wait on hold to speak with a tech who will just tell me to do a battery pull. Can I back charge my consultant fees to VZW for me waiting on hold excessively?" She said,"But sir, it's a partnership with us."

To wit, I reply,"Well, this partnership will end at my contract termination date, or, possibly earlier. And, all of my customers will no longer be advised that VZW is the carrier of choice."

Businesses that need cell phones for multiple people. Businesses that also need multiple phone lines coming into their buildings.

Sometimes the only way you can make a vote that counts is with your wallet. Unfortunately, the masses will continue on with Berizon. I plan on no longer recommending Berizon as I have in the past either. I just wish Sprint had good new phones without stupid hardware keyboards. I know some people love them. Maybe Sprint users love them overall. They are really really behind though on their touch screen only phones. Have they had anything drop since the original EVO 4G? I know it's still a good phone, but certainly not an upgrade from a Fascinate, other than plan prices. All the best phones are hitting T-Mobile and SatanT&T, which are sadly merging into one. Berizon has some good stuff coming, but they are late to the party as usual, and I grow ever more tired of their shens.

I love how they say their approval date for 2.2 was like the day before Samsung released the source code lol. Apprently something has not yet been approved, my guess, Verizon is still finishing swallowing all that BING and slowly gettin up off their knees to give it the go ahead for OTA....lol

Out of curiosity do you know who you spoke with? I'm still playing tag with a few departments but if one of them is the same person you spoke with I can go ahead and cross them off my list. I have to say hearing what they had to say is quite disappointing. I'm not expecting credits or a new phone, I'd just like Verizon to say "Sorry, our bad. In the future we'll try and correct any issues like this." Looks like I shouldn't hold my breath for this or I might keel over dead.

Ms. Wilson :)

Yeah, I'm not looking for a new phone or anything; just a simple apology and a "we will try to make sure we do better"...

I'm not looking for "Well, we're just as bad as every carrier in this regard; we just have better networks" line.

I'd still talk to her (Not cross her off the list). They hear the same issues enough times, and maybe. Just maybe, it'll make a difference.

Or maybe they're becoming tired of hearing it and becoming shorter and shorter in their responses ...

Well I just got a call from the Office of the President of Verizon.

I had emailed the letter I posted early and filed a report with the Better Business Bureau. The person that I spoke with referenced only the inquiry from the BBB.

In short, he apologized for the delay and lack of info. He asked me several questions about the info sent to the BBB, specifically about what the Verizon reps and their claims. He apologized profusely for the lack of info and wanted to know if remembered any names of the people that I had spoken with (which I did) and what they had claimed. Several times, he apologized for the reps behavior and said that the fact that they blamed Samsung and claimed Verizon had no part in the software process is wholly unacceptable and they will be dealt with.

He also conceded that Verizon is usually the last to update software because of their arduous testing process. He said that the latest build has been approved for deployment as of 4/14/11 and that it will be coming OTA very, very soon.

Naturally, I felt it were my duty to politely convey my skepticism on behalf of all Fascinate owners and explained to him that many of us are former Eris users that have spent a lot of money and feel like 2 time losers. I asked him to look at this from a customer's point of view. Surprisingly, he conceded again and offered a replacement phone of my choice that is available under the Certified Pre-Owned program (30 days to decide). I told him that though I am not interested in a new device but rather an update, I will consider his offer.

Thats basically it. Hopefully, this 4/14 approval date and prospect of OTA update is for real. I hope more people file with the Better Business Bureau and send in emails.

Considering what is offered under the CPO program that's a pretty lackluster line up of phones. The only I'd remotely consider is the Droid X and with the locked bootloader that's a no thank you. I did notice however the Galaxy Tab was offered under the CPO. Wonder if they'd send you one of those? LOL.

True. The only reason I was surprised is because as a representitive of Verizon, he accepted blame rather than attempt to doge it. Usually big corporations try to duck responsibility and management types usually tow the line.

But did he promise that his company would be more open and honest with their customers about such matters in the future? Seems to me that there would be a LOT fewer bad feelings if they had ever (and yet still haven't) given honest reports of their intentions and plans, with projected dates.

It's not a partnership or else they can darn well start paying me my part of the profits. It's a sales/customer relationship and nothing else.

With that said, I have been meaning to post that I love my phone. I am unrooted, unrommed, and completely amazed at what the bugger can do. I am waiting anxiously for the Froyo update so that I can finally root and get rid of some bloat. I just don't want to root, then unroot, then root again. I want the update if it comes, but if it never comes, that won't diminish my love of the device.

That is very very true. In a consumer driven economy like ours, our wallets are extremely powerful, but largely we choose to complain quietly and continue getting the shaft. It's good to see people willing to take action. The only way companies will change bad business is when the profits take a hit directly because of that business.
