Root Help, going to blue recovery instead of red clockwork

when i power up my phone, i'm trying to get into the red clockwork recovery but it only goes to the blue system recovery <2e>? i've waited till the samsung logo blinks twice, once, and not at all. am i missing something? i'm at the first steps of my first root and am getting concerned.

any help please.

I generally keep the update.zip for red CWM on the SD card root, then just apply the update from blue CWM. Works for me.

Just to verify, you have used odin to install clockwork correct? And when you start up are you pressing both up and down volume rockers along with the power button?

Ya, used odin. Guess I'll just do it that way. Doesn't it get tedious having to remove your battery every time you want to change theme or something? Anyway, I'm up and running now. First root, used sheepdogs tutorial and installed blue steel theme. Finally have flash, living it. F-off samsung, we'll do it ourselves! Thanks for replies

Apply the update.zip file and it'll take you there

so if i put that file on my sd card "root", where is that? just not being placed in a folder?

Yeah, like straight up on the sd. You can put stuff in sub folders but it's a pain to go through all of them.
