Root Motorola Facebook Poll

Found it, and I count it as bad news.

"It is our intention to enable the unlockable/relockable bootloader currently found on Motorola XOOM across our portfolio of devices starting in late 2011, where carriers and operators will allow."

Translation: We're going to throw a bone to the new devices and get you to buy one more time, then blame it on Verizon for not letting you get what you thought you were paying for. Anyone with an older device is SOL.

Comments Unlock Motorola Okay, so I was hoping to get the article out at the same time, but here it is. It seems that Motorola may go a similar path to Sony Ericsson with devices later this year. I received this from Motorola: "It is our intention to enable the unlockable/ relockable bootloader currently found on Motorola XOOM across our portfolio of devices starting in late 2011, where carriers and operators will allow it."

So what moto is saying is they are gonna unlock the phone. Then pricks like Verizon are gonna turn around and lock it back up on you. Way to pass the buck moto.

Maybe. But I don't think verizon would care that much. As long as they can control wireless tethering, I doubt they would mind. There is a possibility they may have tiered data by then regardless so they might not even care about tethering at that point. Motorola is the company on the hook for bricked devices and if they take the approach of letting them be unlocked and voiding the warranty, then we all win.

The Story of the Original DROID: How a Single Phone Helped Save Three Companies - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog
you'd think moto would consider how things were and why people liked their first droid^

Very good read, thanks.

As cool as that story is, it makes my blood boil when I read stuff like...

From the article... said:
"The iPhone’s electronics and software were inaccessible, so they’d market the phone’s hackability..."

The article discribes how the OG Droid turned around both of these companies, and now both of these companies have turned on the very concepts that THEY hooked us in with. It makes no sense at all.

"Hey everyone, buy our Droid instead of the iPhone because it's cool and hackable unlike that square iPhone". Then they make every Droid after it unhackable... WTF???

It's just so stupid it makes me want to watch Motorola go down in flames for being so dumb. There is so much about Motorola devices that I really like, but this one thing makes me get down on my knees and pray that they crash and burn and have to watch the OEMs who are giving us what we want (the hackable devices that THEY made so popular), pass them up and leave them in the dust.

Then I want to watch them launch a huge campaign exclaiming, "hey everyone, come back please, come back... we're going to unlock our bootloaders again". But by then I want everyone elses devices to be so good that we all look back at them and say, "sorry, it's too late now. You had us back in the day, but you ****ed it all up. We've all moved on to greener pastures... sorry bout it".

I know that's not going to happen, but damn it just irritates me sooo much knowing that hooked us like a drug dealer hooks some poor unsuspecting sap... then they cut us off cold just to watch us squirm while we go through withdrawls.

Those bastards.
