redownload the sbf. I had a problem flashing the first time I tried and decided a fresh download would fix that. It did. Sometimes the files go a little wonky during the download.
to answer your root question, if you upgrade through the 3 patch method from p3droid then you will be upgrading to a rooted GB.
There is a 1 click root on the horizon but I wouldn't suggest it for you right now. No offense but I think you probably need to learn more about sbf'ing and flashing. Just as an example, I can do all these things, but I'm staying away from the new root method until people that know much more about programming tell me its safe to use.

i got it, it was the 4.7 updated to 4.8 and it worked fine. Yeah im not a total newb i usd SBF on my original droid to get back to stock ive just never used it to upgrade so i guess thats why it caught me off gaurd. the only reason i would want to have GB rooted is for the simple fact of overclocking so i might just hold off on it.

Well I thought I was on gb lol im not. I followed the instructions on the gb leak 2 thread and it just sits at installing update in recovery. Im rooted and on 2.3.340 any help? Really want to try out GB

It does sit. It takes a few minutes. Don't disturb it. It's in three parts and the last part is the quickest.
