Rogers LG Eve Android Update

Similar to the HTC Magic users who are going to be getting Android 1.5 update as well as Android 2.0.1 update by mid-year, we want to make sure that our LG Eve counterparts not left behind.

This thread is to voice our concerns both to Rogers and LG on making updates available for the LG Eve similar to the Magic.

We want to hear from both parties on their plans on supporting their loyal customers who took the time and money to invest in the Eve device and the LG/Rogers brand.

@RogersMary

First,
- Thank you and your team for all your efforts.

Second, Some questions (That I hope will not be ignored)
- Is this official (see bold text in quote)?
- Have you and your teams discussed LG Eve upgrade options?
- Have you talked to LG and tried to push for some type of upgrade
- And if not, would you be extending the same offer to "LG Eve Owners"?

It looks like LG and Rogers have decided the following:

- no Android upgrade to the LG EVE OS.
- No Hardware upgrade to HTC Magic
- No Communication on this topic...

@RogersMary has been asked several times to comments on what Rogers is doing to LG Eve owners. She has yet to make a single comment. Silence is Golden

LG sends the same canned replies "We have no information on the upgrade"

"Silence is golden, but my eyes still see
Silence is golden, golden
But my eyes still see"

I'm trying to get some answers from LG also, as are otehrs, via Twitter and by email. If you can help us out, we are trying to find management email addies for LG.

I've raised the question to LG as well and forwarded them my email for them to respond to. Once they respond, I will copy MJSchmidt on it as well as Rogers Mary and follow up with a blog entry @ puleen.com

The fight goes on.... :)

I think you meant "young padawan". ;-)

@boualem: I Want My One Point Six - Demanding Android 1.6 for our Rogers HTC Magic & Dream, and LG Eve Phones is still up and running. I'm trying to get some answers from LG also, as are otehrs, via Twitter and by email. If you can help us out, we are trying to find management email addies for LG.

Here's another unhappy Rogers customer.
I don't see why it's the consumer's responsibility to push for what is probably contractual basic essential support for a product.
Releasing the LG Eve with an outdated OS and no plans for a firmware upgrade can't be legal unless LG declares this to be a discontinued product.
This is not a request for backward compatibility, this is a produt that lacks forward compatibility. Makes me think Canada is a third world country.
I just got the LG Eve as an upgrade on the 9th, and i think i'll return it today, let my contract die out, and probably switch to WIND or some american carrier. I don't know if you've noticed, but you're consistently getting 1-2 year old technolegy in Canada as a matter of standard practice. Buy elsewhere or it won't stop.

I've emailed the LG addresses, if any of you get a hold of relevant email addresses for rogers execs, please post them here as well so we can skip the official complaint run around and go right to the head.

I wish I could have taken that path. I f I would have know there wasn't going to be any OS updates from LG, I would've gone the HTC route...at least if I went with a Magic, I would be getting sense UI and 2.1 later.

I will also jump on those other email addresses and let them hear my voice as well.

Check the dream thread there is plenty of name for the Office of the President (OotP) of Rogers to address your frustation regarding the LG Eve.

i've had that happen at least twice. almost resorted to removing the battery, but it came back to life in about a minute.
i don't think there's any valid complaint you can make on that issue as they can always say it was caused by a third party software you've installed.
although, it is impossible not to install third party software on the eve, as even a basic file transfer from your usb cable requires one. rogers does not supply you with any utilities for bluetooth or usb transfer. when i asked their tech support, he told me to use HTCSync for USB and that bluetooth just isn't supported. I was somewhat surprised. why do i need an HTC app to backup my LG phone?
so by standard policy, you could say that rogers directs you to download and install third party software.

incidentally, htcsync doesn't recognize the phone on windows 7 even with the updated lg driver. i haven't tested it on xp and i don't think i will.
it's too bad really, cause i love the display, and would rather keep this phone. i just need a firm commitment that they'll upgrade the firmware.

fugdup, do you have problem with your LG eve's screen frozen or the phone frozen completely?

It has frozen completly a couple of times, pulled battery and fine. I think it's all the apps I have installed. There are a couple that but heads as they want the same info at the same time I think.

I have gone to the OotP on numerous occasions and they seem not to care, very similar to the beginning of the 1.6 fight for the HTC's = NO HELP. I have emailed LG a couple of times, but got the canned response. Just have to try the other emails addresses mentioned above. We will see where that goes, maybe we can touch a nerve with one of them. I hope they update up to 2.0 at least as the new GT540 or GT450 (seen both model numbers on different websites for the same phone) will be released with 2.0.
