[ROM] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7 (Gingerbread) [05/23/11]

This ROM comes with Zeam correct? I'm pretty sure it does because it's on the wife's phone. I'm trying to change her launcher to Launcher Pro (LP) but I cannot figure out why it's not letting me. I hit the home button to bring up the different launchers but nothing happens. She may have selected "Remember this option" when selecting her launcher and now I cannot figure out how to get back to LP. Any thoughts?

Also, has anyone flashed the new update? How's it working? ;)

Try downloading home switcher from the market. That's how I switched from zeam to launcher pro. Had no problems after using it.

Okay, so I rooted my phone and installed the aosp 3/26 ROM and love it. I was wondering how I would I update it to the 4/21 ROM without wiping everything on my phone again.

This link was exactly what I was looking for. Install from a previous Version - ROMRepo

But could someone here please translate what "flash from recovery" means in plain English? Is it just telling me to install the zip file from the sd card after wiping the cache/dalvik-cache in recovery mode? If so, what does the .img file for then?

Yes all you have to do is wipe cache and davlik cache in the recovery menu. Then flash the 4/21 zip. The img file is a recovery update you don't need to concern yourself with that. Just download the zip from page 1.

I updated from AOSP 2.2 to 2.3 (4/21) this weekend. It's been a few days now and it looks like it is settling in (it seems you have to run it for a few days and reinstall apps that just seem to fall out). First I Nandroid'd an old Sense ROM to update my Profile and PRL. Did the whole wipe thing according to DonB in the beginning of this forum. Then I loaded 2.2, GApps, and as long as I was doing this flash the S0be Kernel that seems to be all the rage. As I said, it was unstable for a few days - even froze so bad I had to Nandroid my first 2.3 install (I kept Nandroiding every few hours as I shifted stuff around), but today it has been very stable. So what have I observed? 1) The battery seems to last much longer, at least from looking at the icon, and 2) more importantly, loads more memory is available. With 2.2 I had maybe 15 Meg left after apps, and a bunch of stuff moved on the SD card. Now I have 50 Meg left. That is goodness. Aside from that one or two apps were not Gingerbread compatible so I dumped them for others. Haven't really tested the GPS for freezing yet. I'm running Launcher Pro, but might try something else. One question remains. I had to backlevel Clockworkmod to the 2.5 from 3.0 in order to load my Sense ROM. I have kept 2.5 so I can easily go back to Sense to upload a new PRL in the future. What does 3.0 really buy, and why does ROM Manager only use 2.5 and not 3.0.
Aside from that my Hero should last to the end of Oct and my 2 year contract, and hopefully by then we will have Android 3 and a new set of dual-CPU phones.

That is a very good question which you partly answered yourself, if CWM would automatically upgrade to 3.0 recovery then you would not be able to nandroid your old backups as you have noticed. Now 2.5 Recovery is fine and works just fine for now and I am still using such, but I assume somewhere down the line will come a time where we will have to be on the 3.0 Recovery but for now we are good. As for what is the difference between 3.0 and 2.5 Recovery, well this will explain a little more, [RECOVERY][UNOFFICIAL]Clockworkmod 3 series - xda-developers

In a nutshell below

  • CWM2 IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED AND MAY BREAK AT ANY TIME
  • ROM Manager won't work with 2 series anymore
  • support for journaling filesystems. Your data is safer.
  • pretty orange color
  • power down from recovery
  • better partitioning support
  • may be required for Cyanogenmod in the future. It is not required for the inc as of now.

So, I slapped on aospCMod Gingerbread 03/26, and it was running fine. Then, I saw a new update (04/21/11). I wiped my cache and dalvik. Installed the zip and all seemed hunky-dory.
Actually, for the most part, everything IS hunky-dory. One nit-pick: My display seems a bit wonky (like a 30-year-old tv screen) awaking and going to sleep.
Does this sound familiar to anyone?

On a semi-related matter, what's the story on firerats? I'm curious, but scared (standard operating procedure with mods/roms + me).

Let me know what's up, if you'd be so kind.

To straighten out your screen go to settings then cyanogen settings and select display turn screen on and off animations off. That should solve that issue. As for firerats I have never messed with it but this link should tell you all you need to know

Hey all:

I recently flashed this ROM and I keep getting the "com.android.phone" force close, no service, etc. Everything is fine immediately after the flash and initial boot into the mod, but once I reboot I get the "no service" and "com.android.phone" fcs. I've tried fixing permissions with Clockwork Recovery to no avail. Any ideas?

I finally flashed ASOP GB 2.3.3 (4/21) yesterday with Firerats Mod. It's awesome. I followed the steps as shown here in this thread. need help? come here!(general questions). I also used the link as "rb312..." gave you. [MOD][RECOVERY] Firerat's Custom MTD Partitions (resize Data,System and Cache) - xda-developers. I looked around page 128-130 for the settings for the mtd text file. I used 105 5 just to be safe but I believe you can use 100 4 or even lower than that (100 2) for CM7/ ASOP GB.

When I flashed GB 2.3.3, my market wouldn't work, but there's a link somewhere in this forum for that. I just used the terminal emulator on the phone and input the prompts from the link and it worked immediately.

On a sidenote, does anyone know what the mobile network settings should be? I keep getting a triangle saying international data roaming lost when I have poor service. Should the international data roaming or national data roaming boxes be checked in mobile network settings?

Ok - FireRats mod is VERY cool and gives you etra space
BUT - it Breaks things .
If you REALLY feel you need extra space - Native Apps to sd works Great.

That being said after a full Format and Wipe on 4/21 I have 88mb of space remaing after 30 apps or so.

The only problem occurred in the past day has been the lockscreen freezing up on me twice (touchscreen mainly unresponsive) and had to pull battery. I am not sure if it is due to Firerat mod or not.

I'm not sure what other problems there are with firerat's mod. Most of them that I've read have been with the sizes of mtd and market problems. Any other ones I'm not aware of?

I wonder what he means in saying that ROM Manager no longer works with 2 series anymore? I have ROM Manager installed and ClockworkMod version 2.5.0.7 and everything works just fine, even with the latest ROM Manager updates.

I remember reading somewhere that ClockworkMod version 3.0.0.1 breaks the ability to flash radios on the Sprint HTC Hero. Has this been fixed?
