SweeterHome2 Beta

I've been spending all of my free time using this. It goes beyond what I could have ever imagined, and the update for 2.0 is tremendous. I've made 2 themes already and being able to share themes is a great idea and makes me feel good inside :D. But, I can't figure out how to save themes to my SD card in case I wanted to change things without having to upload it to the server. Any help?

edit theme...upload/export...at the top change from internet to sd card. however, i will warn you that i've seen some ppl get stuck on the red eye when they reboot after saving to sd  i just keep saving my changes to my original upload.

For everyone using this, exercise a fair bit of caution. This almost bricked my phone today :s

While changing wallpapers, the JVM crashed. Then the screen went black and wouldnt turn back on or reboot, so I had to pull the battery. When I tried to boot back up, it would get to my boot animation and stay there indefinitely. I tried booting in safe mode and that didnt help either. What ended up working was removing the SD card, then booting into safe mode.

So... I won't be too dependent on this until it's out of beta.

For those of you having issues with Koxx's Pure widgets (Pure Calendar Grid, Pure Messenger, Pure Calendar, and Pure Weather).

I can get all of them to work flawlessly except Pure Messenger (it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't).

The way you get them to work is to go into edit mode, select the widget block, then select edit. When the configuration window comes up: Make sure that you select the widget in the "Widget Select" block. Then select "Widget Configure" this will bring up those widget's configuration menu. Go through your prompts as you normally would selecting save where appropriate. When you finish those you will return to the system widget configuration window. Back out until you exit edit mode.

Sometimes you have to restart SH to see the changes. I use a task killer to do this (either Toggle Settings or Advanced Task Manager).

A couple of NOTES:

The dev has a couple of MAJOR complaint with the way Android forces the home screens to handle widgets. He has made note of them and is contacting Android development about them... But, who knows how long it'll take them to fix it.

Just so ya'll know - the features in SH are very different than many other Home replacement apps. The Dev has found MANY bugs in the Android OS code that he has had to work extensively to find ways to work around. That was one of the reasons this app took so long to develop to this point.

Another reason it took so long to develop and a reason why it was made mainly for 1.6 and up - Android 1.5 had a lot of big memory control issues. SH takes advantage of a lot of memory control within the app due to many users using a lot of graphics. When I was beta testing early on with 1.5 we constantly ran into issues with Android running out of memory. 1.6 had some fixes that allowed for SH to take advantage of and run much more smoothly.

@rjoudrey - Nice setup!

I'm agreeing with above comments about not needing a bunch of screens!

I really only use three screens. If one looks at rjoudrey's setup he could actually put all of his springboard (menu's) on the second row from the bottom into one tray that slides horizontally and fit EVERYTHING on all the screen pics he uploaded onto one screen!

That is what I LOVE about this home replacement. with a couple of clicks I can access ANY feature or app on the phone and it will look good doing it as I can then close the springboards and just show some nice background. NO APP ICONS ALL OVER THE PLACE!!

Just as a side note:

Someone brought up on the SweeterHome forums:
SweeterHome - Forums - sweeterhome.com

That if you create a picture block and upload your theme to the SH server the picture/graphic in the block is also uploaded. Anyone who downloads your theme will also get the pictures inside your picture blocks. This is a feature of SH so that when someone creates some custom graphics for their theme another will get those graphics as well. Makes sense.

However, if you are using a personal photo in you theme then you may wish to put a generic image there when uploading your theme to the server.

Never fear you can save your theme (with said personal photo(s) onto your SDcard.

BTW - please visit the above links for any questions about how to use SH!

@SteveJones - No it is not on the market yet. This is a public beta and is not ready for the market yet. If you wish to download the app go here to download the correct version. There is a version for 1.6 and one for 2.0 and up.

Well I have also been waiting for this for weeks or more now and was so excited to see this thread, followed the link , installed it , played with it for a few but it was lagging terribly so I rebooted my Droid and now I cant get past the boot screen. This sucks. Anybody else having this problem?

Actually it does boot, I can hear all my notifications and the LED is flashing I can even make the slide to unlock motion and in vibrates like it unlocks the the screen is stuck on the pulsing eye....

This happend to me last night!!! IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED!!! I almost had to wipe my phone! UGH!!

I had to do a battery pull due to a different non responsive app... After the battery pull the screen would not come back on it was stuck on the pulsating eye... the phone was functioning as i could hear texts coming in and the led was flashing... 40 mins of pulsing eye and 5 battery pulls later still nothing... then my phone rang... still nothing.... then it decided to come on....

Dont know whats up but if you can avoid any battery pulls!!!!

First of all, I am pretty basic in my knowledge and use of my Droid. I've played with some apps, learned some things and love the phone.

I played with Sweeterhome, and have found a couple themes I really like and have been able to customize them to fit my needs, but the one thing I have not found is a way to short cut to the notification window like you have on the Native Home, or Home++. If I am missing that shortcut please tell me, but without it, I can't use this, because between emails coming in on Touchdown, Gmail, Facebook plus app updates etc, I use that window a lot.

Along those lines, someone should develop a widget to show them.

I spent a few hours making a theme to fit my needs using the Sublime theme as a base and I wont look back to Home++. I miss the power bar and the hidden status bar, but the personalization that it allows helped me overlook that. I experienced quite a few FC's and bugs while editing the theme, but since finalizing and saving it to my SD card it hasnt given me any fits and runs just as smooth as Home++ did. Major kudos to the dev.

ShaneUS: I downloaded themes and none of the pictures transferred for me

I have downloaded the BSG theme and I trying to learn how to customize stuff.. I am using Beautiful Home Widget and the clock does not get updated.. and I set it to yes for configurable and configured what I needed and the clock still does not change.. It only changes if I click on edit theme..

There is button called settings (I think it is a springboard) I want to add apps on there? Can i just drag and drop apps on it? How do I delete the icons if I do not need them?

How do i add a new widget on another screen? I think I am missing the easiest one.. Thanks

SweeterHome looks amazing but I'm gonna wait until I know for sure this is fixed.

Jolene, I might be playing with fire here, but can I ask you to try the app again? If you get the same error, remove the SD card and restart...

Also what OS are you running, and are you rooted?

I'm trying to get more info about this for the dev... it seems isolated to Droids only, and even then only a couple of instances...

Hey everyone - I'm assuming some of you kids have the Android SDK installed on your computers...

So if: you have a Droid, have experience the red eye hang, and know what ADB or DDMS is - then I'd REALLY like to get a PM from you.

The dev needs a log to be able to pinpoint why it's hanging for you guys. He's been using a Droid for months with SH2 and has had no probs at all.
