Rogers LG Eve Android Update

i've had that happen at least twice. almost resorted to removing the battery, but it came back to life in about a minute.
i don't think there's any valid complaint you can make on that issue as they can always say it was caused by a third party software you've installed.
although, it is impossible not to install third party software on the eve, as even a basic file transfer from your usb cable requires one. rogers does not supply you with any utilities for bluetooth or usb transfer. when i asked their tech support, he told me to use HTCSync for USB and that bluetooth just isn't supported. I was somewhat surprised. why do i need an HTC app to backup my LG phone?
so by standard policy, you could say that rogers directs you to download and install third party software.

incidentally, htcsync doesn't recognize the phone on windows 7 even with the updated lg driver. i haven't tested it on xp and i don't think i will.
it's too bad really, cause i love the display, and would rather keep this phone. i just need a firm commitment that they'll upgrade the firmware.

Yes it's impossible not to install a third party software. Afterall it's a smartphone. It's like saying, buy a computer and just run windows and don't run any other software.

It has frozen completly a couple of times, pulled battery and fine. I think it's all the apps I have installed. There are a couple that but heads as they want the same info at the same time I think.

I have gone to the OotP on numerous occasions and they seem not to care, very similar to the beginning of the 1.6 fight for the HTC's = NO HELP. I have emailed LG a couple of times, but got the canned response. Just have to try the other emails addresses mentioned above. We will see where that goes, maybe we can touch a nerve with one of them. I hope they update up to 2.0 at least as the new GT540 or GT450 (seen both model numbers on different websites for the same phone) will be released with 2.0.

Well we'll have to see what RogersMary have to say because if it's a hardware issue, then a different hardware replacement should be given but if it's a software issue then LG have to come up with the patch ASAP.

i think they've released a software update for the display issue (the c version and it seems to be working). mine already came setup with the c version.
the only real hardware problem i've noticed is the battery life. it lasts about 24 hours on standby. it was on 60%, i went to sleep, and woke up to the sound of the phone begging to be charged as it reached 5%.
wifi was disabled, bluetooth was disabled, gps was disabled.
i figured a firmware update will fix this, which is how i discovered no firmware update is planned and got to this forum.

Oh i had that issue the first day when i got the phone. I went back to the store to replace the battery and that fixes it. As for the version C. Someone reported that it didn't work

i'm thinking of writing an article about this nonsense to the university newspapers and then see if i can get it "escalated" to the provincial level. hopefully no one else will buy the eve and rogers will finally get that without product support they're losing customers.
if it gets to the vancouver sun it will finally get some exposure, and they won't have any choice.
why is it that all the online reviews don't mention the 1.5 android?

I say work with RogersMary and I am sure she will have a solution for us.

ok, i just spoke to vicky from management office. she said i can return my phone ( less than 30 minutes and purchased on the 9th) as it applies to the "buyer's remorse" policy or whatnot.
she said she was aware of the htc dream precedence and that despite having reached an agreement with HTC on the phone switch deal it's LG's responsibility to provide an upgrade.
she also said i can switch to the magic for around 300 bucks. no thanks.

personally i find this to be a typical defference of responsibilty, but whatever. i'm giving away the eve. good luck to everyone who's stuck with it ;)

really really too bad, i actually liked the phone.
i still think it's rogers` responsibility to push the vendor to release upgrades.

i'll wait for my contract to die in november and probably switch to WIND.
5 years with rogers will soon come to an end.

Just be patient, RogersMary is looking in to this matter. There's no point being irrational. Remember, it took us 3 months with almost daily communication with Rogers to achieve dream/magic upgrade/update. We just started with LG so give it sometime. I am pretty sure RogersMary will come up with something to resolve this issue.

Again, try channel all communication through RogersMary because believe me, we have gone through this process with different OOPt, each one will have different approach and answers for you.

Please do.
People need to be informed that LG Eve is not upgradeable.

Yes I to just received my new LG EVE and was told by Roger's that there will be updates coming for it and that it was a new phone and it takes time. I see a lot of talk about the notion of there not being support for it and I hope for Roger's sake its not true, They will be ending my contract without me paying any fees for I am not sitting for 3 years with a new phone that has all these features and no software support or upgrades for it especially when I was told before getting it that it will be one of there top Android phones and I will have to wait for my Rogers Account App and same with a update to fix me not being able to download games from Rogers site.

Download apps is from Android Market not from Rogers site.

currently there are no scheduled upgrades, which means they haven't even started working on them, let alone distributing them.
you are, of course, more than welcome to call rogers customer service, ask to escalate this to the manager, i spoke to vicky, maybe you can ask to speak to her as well. mention this forum while you're at it and the htc precedent.
also mention that it is rogers' responsibility to their customers to push LG to release updates, not yours.

i think writing to google that as a result of this you've fallen out of favor with Android phones couldn't hurt. Google can probably push LG more effectively than Rogers.

Considering how many Rogers employees told us the HTC Magic and Dream would be updated, when it wasn't true (until recently when we convinced them otherwise) I wouldn't believe what you were told. The CSRs, techs, store clerks, even the management are poorly trained on Android.

Done. My contract is as once before, no more LG Eve.
I've done some research. There's an ongoing pettition to get the Samsung Galaxy upgrade. It's been running since June 09. that's about 8 months of no results. I believe the only reason the HTC Magic gets the upgrade is because they actually work with Google on the Nexus-1 and it's probably more because of Google. Definitely not thanks to Rogers. Think about it when you go patting any Rogers employees on the shoulders for a job well done. The only thing that will get the vendor to commit an upgrade is a carrier's request. The only thing that will get that happening is a class-action lawsuit. If you think pettitions make a difference, i think you're incredibly naive. Also, the LG Eve is only currently distributed in Canada, that's a very limited consumer range that isn't likely to warrant an upgrade.

What we can do though is gather enough people to get a class-action going.

Hi All,

Some good news for you, LG has been taking notice of the of the Android 1.5 issue on the LG EVE. I received an email from them early this evening stating that they have taken the issue up with their engineering department and should have some sort of answer in the next serveral weeks.

They are asking for input from Bloggers and will be accepting input from me, if you have anything that you would like passed on let me know.

You can read about it and see the email that I received over on my Blog LG is listening to EVE concerns The GreatBigDog Report

I've also got that response.

here it is:

Thanks for your note. LG has been listening to the conversations online about Android based mobile phones including the LG Eve and is currently addressing this feedback in an engineer evaluation of upgrade. Our engineers and development teams have been reviewing the feasibility of providing an upgrade both from a development, deployment and a cost perspective and will be making a decision shortly. As we speak bloggers from around the world are participating in these discussions in Korea.
We are now inviting bloggers from Canada to participate as well. As the evaluation is currently underway, your comments couldn't be more timely and we will be sharing your feedback directly with our engineering and development team. I encourage you to continue to send me your recommendations on the subject to myself and/or Sheryl Davey from our communications agency. Once we have had a chance to fully evaluated all the feedback, you will be hearing from us with our official plans in the next couple of weeks.

Best Regards,

Paul Pike

Excellent. Means i might repurchase the LG Eve in a few weeks if they decide to upgrade.

In the meanwhile, you should all send your complaints to ppike@lge.com because that seems to be going somewhere.

I was looking for the voice dial feature and found out that the LG EVE doesn't support it. It like many other features that should be available on the EVE is only available with android 1.6 or 2.0. ??? A phone that encourages people to dial and drive.. how nice! I called LG and asked them if there was an update because voice dial is a very basic feature on most phones. I was unimpressed with the lack on knowlege on the part of the person on the other end of the phone. So I asked to leave a customer request that they update and mentioned that I felt it was irrisponsible to sell a phone that doesn't have this basic feature, it is a safety issue! They said they sent a note and mentioned I should call my service provider (Rogers) and see if they would fix it. From what I am reading here it doesn't sound like it's going to happen. I hope one of those consumer magazines gets ahold of what is going on. What a horrible way to treat your customers Rogers and LG. Shame on you!
