Root GingerShedBread/GSB

I just rebooted my phone (via adb) because I was locked out - no lock screen display would come up. Even more strange was that if I long-pressed the power button, sometimes the reboot/airplane/silent_mode popup would appear, and at other times, a "fuzzed out" image that I had previously been looking at in my Gmail app would appear.

A bug in surface_flinger maybe?

Give condemned cm7 a try.

FWIW, the exact same thing happened to me last night on Condemned - I had to battery pull. I got nothing from a long-press on power myself, which was why I battery pulled. That's the first time I saw something like that on a CM7 ROM. I'm back to xtrSENSE right now; unless I start having major battery life issues, I think for good. I can upgrade my phone at any point now apparently, with one last new every 2 discount starting in August.

Downloaded 3.1.

So far my issues are as follows
Launcher pro friends widget won't display facebook. It keeps asking me to add my facebook credentials. Twitter does appear however.

Also downloaded BobClockD3. I don't like it and wish to uninstall it but I don't see it in my app list to uninstall. Do I need to use App manager/

The prior version had a clock widger that appeared as text, where can I get that widget?

One more note, Beautiful Weather widget app won't update the weather.

Thanks

The two ways that I do this are settings->applications->manage applications, or use the app appbrain - that lets you uninstall apps. Of course, once you install appbrain from the market it may start recognizing that app that's not there at the moment - that happens sometimes.

Isn't that the simiClock widget?

what's up guys...

I just 'upgraded' to my first droid phone, the HTC Eric. I'm eligible for an upgrade from my Samsung Rogue, but waiting for a phone I really want to get to use the upgrade discount. Bought this for $18, haha, off my roommate.

I got this phone yesterday and was able to root and install this ROM on it, and I gotta say I love all the things this phone can do.

I have a couple questions on how to save the apps/ROM settings/etc when upgrading to a new version of the ROM (if one comes out). Or will the saved apps/settings translate to different ROMs I install?

I have Titanium backup and did a full backup of sys and user apps, but do I only need to do user apps? I also backed up the LauncherPro settings.

I'm also having the softkey lights not showing up. They showed up for a minute with auto-dim on, then stopped.

Thanks guys.

To answer one of your questions don't backup system data.

Welcome!

For a new version of the same ROM, you can *usually* flash over without wiping data first, preserving all of you settings and data (you do need to flash gapps each time, though.) I would still Nandroid backup first. For going to a different ROM, even one of the same Android version, even one with the same framework (i.e., CyanogenMod 7), I'd do a data wipe and not try to restore system data. If you do a Nandroid backup before the restore of system data, though, you can always go back.

I have Titanium backup and did a full backup of sys and user apps, but do I only need to do user apps? I also backed up the LauncherPro settings.

You can surely do both. Like I said, a good Nandroid backup is your very best friend. It sure doesn't hurt to try.

I regularly restore user apps and data with TiBu, but rarely system data. Sometimes I do when I am feeling particularly lazy, though.

I'm also having the softkey lights not showing up. They showed up for a minute with auto-dim on, then stopped.

I haven't run GSB in a while, but I believe that is a known issue with the latest release.

Thanks for the quick response. So is this right...

Nandriod is basically a full backup to keep in case you screw something up completely again, just wipe everything and use this backup to restore? I unfortunetly didn't backup the stock 1.5 on my phone before I put CM7 on it, but it looks readily available on the net.

TiBu is used to saved user apps/settings and mail/contacts, but not sys data, and use this to restore your cell whenever you put a new/different ROM on. But shouldn't have to do this if I stay with CM, just flash the new build/gapps.

I tried posting in the xsa-dev forum about any bugs I found in this build, but you need 10+ posts in general to post on those boards, so was hoping workshed looks at this thread too.

This is right. If you have ever used Ghost on a Windows PC, it is just like Ghost - it makes a snapshot in time of the exact state of your phone at the time you backup, and restores that state when you restore.

No, you can backup system data as well. It's just that each ROM may have slightly different system app databases and may not work correctly if you try to restore system data between ROMs. This would be especially true from a 2.1 ROM to a Froyo or Gingerbread ROM, for example.

and use this to restore your cell whenever you put a new/different ROM on. But shouldn't have to do this if I stay with CM, just flash the new build/gapps.

I've also used TiBu to restore data when a market update to an app has gone bad.

But, you can *usually/almost always* flash an update over a ROM. However, sometimes the developer will tell you that the update requires a full-wipe. You can always try flashing over, but I tend to heed the warnings.

tree point tree ......... loading now :p

Cool, will give it a spin tonight.

I'm guessing there's no way to get rid of apps from your app drawer? Things such as DSP Manager that I'll probably never use...

Do any of you guys get annoyed with the "This feature is only available to LauncherPro Plus users" on the homescreen? I get this a lot when tryingto pull down the notification bar because I have a clock widget at the very top of my screen, so the widget will get highlighted sometimes and any button I press home/back/etc to unselect it, it will say I need to upgrade to do that when all I want to do is unselect it. I might look into buying the upgrade or getting ADW EX just to have it for the future.

Either LP+ or ADW Ex lets you remove items from that screen. You could also use TiBu to freeze apps that you don't want.

I don't, since I have LP+ (I assume you mean LauncherPro Plus.) The dev does great work and paying him a few dollars for many, many months of use is worth it to me. I understand that people don't like paying for things, but when you pay $30 a month for data services it seems weird to complain about a few dollars one time for an app. Think of it this way - you are getting a great app for no money, and your payment is the occasional advertising reminder from the developer that the paid version has better features.

You can hide apps in the app drawer with LauncherPro (no plus necessary). Menu>Preferences>General Settings>Hidden Apps

Just put a check next to any apps you don't want to appear in the app drawer.

This phone doesn't like batteries... gets down to 30-40% after a day of work and barely on it during work. I just turned off Wifi/GPS/Mobile data for hte time being. This phone is 1.5 yrs old and I just purchased a OEM battery for the Eris for $5. I'm hoping the battery is just nearing it's end and a new battery will carry a better charge.

Let me know if it holds a better charge- I wouldn't mind getting a new battery either!

It's true that 18 months is a long time for a battery.

You may want to try recalibrating the battery, though. Install this app, wait to the charge hits 100%, and hit the recalibrate button. It may be that your battery use stats are out of whack for the Cyanogen framework.

Wow, just downloaded this and going to try it as soon as my battery hits 100% charging. I'm at 97% now, can't wait to see how well this works! Thanks!
