I have recently purchased the HTC Desire s and like the phone but I have a problem. Every so often the phone turns off but re-starts again. I then receice a message 'Your phone has recovered from a systems crash. Do you want to tell HTC' I have done on all ocassions but HTC ain't told me what the hell to do to fix it.

Has anyone else had this problem and how do I fix it? Not being a techno guy it is giving me a sore head.

Try contacting HTC customer services and reporting the problem.

Yep this is happening to me as well. The phone randomly reboots once or twice every couple of days. Very annoying. It seems this a continual problem with HTC handsets, and they refuse to even acknowledge it, let alone provide a fix. If this was the iphone, it would be all over the news.

Does anyone know possible fixes? (Other than a factory reset, which I've done already..)

Have had the same problem with my HTC Desire S.
Wish I could give a new solution but i brought my phone on 14th April, reset it twice, still got crashes then last weds went into carphone warehouse and got a new phone. All seemed fine until last night.. another crash!!
Really dont know what to do next, even if I were to get another new phone the problem would most likely still occur.
HTC need to sort this out!!!!!!

Just phoned HTC, the only advise that was given to me was to either send the phone in for a repair or get a new one!
How does this help if the problem still exists?!

Surely they need send an update to every phone to fix the problem!!
Am considering getting a different phone, which is a shame because overall the Desire S is a great phone!

Any advise?

I would have to say yes as when i reseted my first phone it still happened. At one point I did think it was a virus but I now have an anti-virus app and every app I have is ok.

A friend at work is also having this issue with his HTC Desire HD however, his problem seems to be worse, it will turn itself off rather then restart.

Yes mine did too about 10 times as I said earlier in this thread. How ever a factory reset (or what ever it's called in English) solved the problem, and it has only crashed once since then in a 3-4 week period of time.

Mine is the same, ill try a factory reset tonight, however i dont see how that will solve the issue, its got to be a bug in the operating system, still ill give it a go. Hopefully it'll fix mine!

I hope it works for you. I don't know how it fixed mine but I got my phone from 3 (in Denmark) and after 10 or so restarts/reboots I called their customer support and the guy told me do a factory reset and it worked (lucky for him :D ). I also complained about having to recharge the phone twice a day and he adviced me to turn WI-FI off and it helped a lot on the battery life.

My new Desire S did this as soon as it came out of the box. It started off with com.htc.bg errors and then google related errors and just randomly reboots/restarts.

Sometimes apps don't work.

This is my first experience of Android (having been a BB'er for 5 years) it isn't a good start... o2 are replacing it tomorrow.

Any further thoughts? Is it mobile carrier dependent?

My second Desire S handset is still doing this, it was crashing less than the first one but its still terrible.

I may try and return it again tomorrow however the screen is scratched ever so slightly. I read somewhere about a scrathproof screen? yeah, sure it is. I even keep it in a 'gadget sock' and it got scratched.

I tried a factory reset and its still crashing.

Really really dissapointed in this handset, when it works its brilliant but it shouldnt crash this much. HTC have really let the side down with this one.

I'd factory Reset it and install no additional application and see if it still crashes, if it does then return it.

Although do consider that its a computer and they're not 100% perfect.

It was crashing with no market place apps installed fresh out of the box.

The software is very buggy, i am just going to have to wait for an update.

It still should not crash this often, opening a text message should not cause a full system crash. Maybe an application process termination i could live with but not a full system restart. Very shoddy software. This would have shown up in testing and its clear that HTC do not care about the end user at all as they gave the phone the 'ok' to be sold.

I could go back to the store and start quoting the sale of goods act 1979 as the phone was not sold to me as a randomly restarting piece of junk and i could argue it is not fit for the purposes it was sold to me under.....but i doubt i'd get very far. :(

UPDATE:

I contacted HTC about my issues and they said that i should 1) send the phone to them to be repaired. 2) return the phone to the supplier and ask for an exchange.

So as i cant be without a phone i took it back to Phones 4 u (again, again) and got a replacement (again) so now im on my 3rd Desire S handset.

Hopefully this one isnt from the same 'run' as the others, the serial numbers were very very different so hopefully this new one is from a later batch of handsets and doesnt have the problems (hopefully)

Will update again if i get the same problems, fingers crossed!!!
