Running Syndicate Frozen. Yesterday, it started force closing an app that I use regularly with no issues ever. Then today, it was acting up with 3 other apps..Facebook, Handcent, and something else..I forget. Force closes or just general weirdness.

Well, this evening, I received a text. I picked my phone up, and I couldn't unlock the lock screen. It was completely frozen. I was on my way into a restaurant, so I just hit the power button to shut the screen off and stuffed it into my pocket.

About half an our later, I went to look at something on my phone, and it never shut the screen off. It was still stuck on my lock screen. I did a battery pull and rebooted. As soon as it booted, it started giving me force close notices for Handcent and something else..something system sounding, not an app. As soon as I hit okay, it would just loop back to the other force close notice..over and over..leaving my phone rendered useless.

Tried rebooting into recovery, wiping data, cache, delvik, fix permissions, etc, but it kept doing it.

I'm about to Odin back to stock, and I'm damn tempted to never root again. It seems every time I do something, even if it seems to work flawlessly, it doesn't last long. I've used Odin I think 4-5 times now, and I only rooted a few weeks ago!

Maybe I just have one of those phones that does not take kindly to being tinkered with. I don't know. I follow instructions to a T and generally do things with a video tutorial playing as I do it.

I'm very frustrated right now. And with Gingerbread right around the corner, I just don't know if I give a crap about rooting and roms. *sigh*

Grrr...been using my phone all day with no real problems. I went to pick it up to text someone who I knew wasn't around TV/internet the breaking news about Bin Laden....and my phone is a black screen. I can see my lock screen fine. But my homescreen is just black screen. Notification bar is fine. Soft keys are lit. I did a battery pull and rebooted..same thing. Ideas??

Edit..I let it sit a few minutes and tried again, and it's normal again. What's up with that??

This is why I get so frustrated! Out of nowhere, it just starts acting up. :(

Kinda sound likes sod(screen of death). Thats were it enters deep sleep mode and doesnt wake up. Are you using setcpu or voltage control for your kernel by chance? If you are try setting minimum setting to 200mhz, this has proven to fix alot ills and no real decrease in battery life. If not i would suggesting trying that to see if that fixes your latest issue.

I've had similar issues to this. One instance is of TW Launcher continually FC'ing, or else just a stream of other apps (GMail, K9 Mail, Facebook, etc) all constantly force closing.

Once in awhile, a reboot or a battery pull will solve the issue. Usually, it comes down to having to reflash the ROM.

I haven't updated to 1.1.0 Syndicate, and have stayed on 1.0.2

It is already set at 200 min and 1200 max.

You may want to try a different scaling then. Mine phone, for whatever reason, absolutely does not like on demand, but runs fine with conservative on every oc kernel i have played with. You may even want to try not using a kernel control app and let the internal governor do its job. Or as zig said above me try 400mhz. That has been suggested as well on official xda thread. Just somethings to ponder. Good luck :)

I put it on 400. Now, can someone explain the scaling thing?

The on demand and conservative and what not?

Just different settings as to when the app kicks in. if you set it to performance it will always be at the max, on demand is as needed and so forth :p

Edit: Info right from the horses mouth(developers site):

7. CPU Scaling Governors
CPU governors control exactly how the CPU scales between your “max” and “min” set frequencies. Most kernels have “ondemand” and “performance.” The availability

 • ondemand – Available in most kernels, and the default governor in most kernels. When the CPU load reaches a certain point (see “up threshold” in Advanced Settings), ondemand will rapidly scale the CPU up to meet demand, then gradually scale the CPU down when it isn't needed.
 • conservative – Available in some kernels. It is similar to the ondemand governor, but will scale the CPU up more gradually to better fit demand. Conservative provides a less responsive experience than ondemand, but can save battery.
 • performance – Available in most kernels. It will keep the CPU running at the “max” set value at all times. This is a bit more efficient than simply setting “max” and “min” to the same value and using ondemand because the system will not waste resources scanning for CPU load.
 • powersave – Available in some kernels. It will keep the CPU running at the “min” set value at all times.
 • userspace A method for controlling the CPU speed that isn't currently used by SetCPU. For best results, do not use the userspace governor.

Thank you! Okay, so if you are setting min and max manually, you need to choose between On Demand and Conservative. I wonder which one is more stable..??

That is a question only your device can answer :p
I have mine set to on demand and after a few days of smooth runnings I checked set at boot :p
Don't set at boot until you know your phone is good to go at those setting :p

I had the same problem with Syndicate Frozen... Then yesterday it wouldn't let me launch my music player (force closed every time) and I put some pictures on my SD card but they didn't show up in the gallery but showed up in root explorer. Then when I tried to answer a phone call the process.android.phone force closed and I was beyond pissed.

I flashed the MidNIGHT Rom 5.2 (BYOR) shortly after the final force close and I haven't experienced any problems since.

I had problems with Syndicate for a while... I've had to reflash the ROM just about everyday for the past week (thinking it was a bad flash) so eventually I too threw in the towel.

I am tempted to try another rom. I am sure there are a lot of people who have issues with one rom and not another, while tons of people never have any issues.

My last flash was better, but still having minor issues. I do at least one battery pull a day because the phone freezes. Every time I reboot, Launcher Pro forces closes.

I'm going to start browsing the Midnight thread on xda. :)

Try the EC05 Stock Plus ROM - which I have been running very well so far - http://androidforums.com/epic-4g-all-things-root/329233-best-stable-rom.html#post2670522
