HTC Gingerbread update.

TIP:

Try setting your date a couple of days into the future, then check again for updates.

There seems to be some limit on the update check frequency despite having a "Check now" button.

I checked yesterday, no updates. Then I set my clock forward a day and checked again. Update available! I'm on Vodafone in NL, update went without a hitch.

Dont forget to change the date back again once the update has been detected.

Tbh, I'm quite happy with FroYo at them moment, I don't really see any advantages in upgrading, My phone has always run smooth as silk and I've never had a problem with the battery. I've tried the leaked GB RUU and RcMixHD ROM and, Meh.

I'm not saying I'm unhappy with FroYo whats got my goat up is the chuffing subsidised market getting an update before the non subsidised cash paying loyal HTC customers who pay market value for their devices. I've tweeted htc 5 times now without response and decided to include them in a tweet to engadget, TechRadar, Android Central asking for one of them to cover this farce...I'd suggest others to do the same.

First up, if my post came across wrong, apologies. I'd just finished a night shift and was very tired.

I don't think it will be any different from the Updates the rest of Europe are getting, I think this testing bullsh!t is a cover up something else and its a different reason as to why they are holding out.

It's a known fact that the HTC repair centre in the UK is swamped and essentially pointless at the moment. I think they're holding out because there is no way they could handle the influx of "broken" handsets if they mess this up. Hence the reason they want to get the release right in the UK.

The reason I'm so "desperate" is because I feel HTC have be in the wrong since December when 2.2.1 came out, they should of done something about the bugs a lot sooner even if it meant down-grading the phones back to 2.2. Or at least explained to their customers the problems and give them some options or advice on how they could go back 2.2. Why should it be left to us to try and rectify the problem such as having to find and use an alternative SMS app etc.

I do agree here, but you know that if you called HTC, you could send your handset back and they would downgrade back to 2.2?

I think we all deserve better explanations from HTC for their doings, after all some of us have payed

Just a thought on why carriers will rcv updates after unbranded/retail...

Carrier: experience of OrangeUK says Networks like to 'test' before authorising updates, ensuring compatibility to their own satisfaction.. this heads off most of those nasty complaints about disfunction/uselessness! They also can tailor specific features for their own software/customer requirements.

Unbranded: Anyone purchasing their own device is beholden to the caveat of ensuring their handset is a compatible device for the network they use.. networks are thus absolved of all responsibility should problems occur and you find yourself with the very latest paperweight.

OrangeUK were pretty slow to roll out the DHD compared to other networks, based on their own 'compatibility checks' & I expect they will be similarly tardy in sending the update

This is clearly not the case in these circumstances owing to the fact that Vodafone are rolling this out before anyone else. With us users having the Desire HD the carriers are not absolved as most if not all carry/have carried it as a subsidised handset in this case. I personally think its disgusting that unbranded owners are still waiting in the shadow of Vodafone owners whose handsets HTC won't have received the same capital for due to them buying in bulk. We who bought ours outwright giving HTC a bigger profit margin through loyalty to HTC are being treated second class.

Yes the update will arrive on all phones, you can check to see if your phones branded under SETTINGS>ABOUT PHONE>SOFTWARE INFORMATION and check to see if .405. appears in your build number. However HTC are screwing over unbranded users and even those using other networks other than Vodafone. They seem to be the HTC golden child choice of the moment to get it in the UK. The rest of us must wait....impatiently...:mad:
