Will you ditch the EVO for the Nexus S 4G?

I'm a huge fan of the Evo don't get me wrong... but I test drove the Nexus S a little while ago and I'm impressed. Seems like its alot cleaner and snappier overall. Most of all I like the anti bloatware campaign that the nexus is known for... kinda saves you the trouble of rooting in the long run. What's your opinion!?

gonna probablly dump the epic for it .epic is great phone but i think the nexus s is gonna be better .

Definitely. Plus I'm not big on the slide out keyboard. I feel like the phone loses beef under the hood when a keyboard is thrown into the phone. Plus I've had bad luck with sliders breaking :/

Gonna dump the Evo for this. I rooted it and got an extended battery. Downside is likely to be less battery life, but after messing with the T-Mo version at Best Buy, I like it. Form factor is sweet, screen is awesome and going through the phone seems much quicker. I only have the stock rom on my Evo, but I'm definitely gonna be pre-ordering this weekend. Would be nice to get this within a month as Sprint is gearing up there "No more mail in rebates" promo starting on Sunday. The release and this promo don't necessarily have anything to do with each other, just figured the phone would come shortly after since it was listing $200 rebate online.

Dumping my 2 week old Evo for this. Man the Nexus S will be the 3rd phone I have had recently, dumped the Shift for the Evo, not the Evo for the Nexus S. Going to pick up a Evo off of craigslist so I can return this one form Sprint and have my device buy date reset. Should be able to sell the Evo for more than I bought it for which will turn out to be good - hopefully cover the $35 return fee!

Speaking of best buy... those guys are idiots. I had a 15 minute arguement with the guy about the nexus s 4G. He was trying to tell me I was wrong about it dropping on sprint soon. He said there's no way because of the cdma/GSM radios. I told him they just announced it and its on the website with the specs and he said its probably not the nexus but another galaxy device. -_- I work at a cell phone store idiot I know what I'm talking about. Meanwhile he's sitting there with his blackberry trying to tell me about the latest android. Please.

I'm actually tired of the bigger screen size with the Evo. I think 4" is the sweet spot, slightly bigger than the iPhone but smaller than the tablet (Evo) that I carry.

Combine that with the clean UI, google updates!, no SD card to jack with, and the gorgeous display....my EVO is not long for my pocket anymore.

Anyone know the battery life on the T-Mo Nexus S?

I read a few places 20 hours. BUT that is without WiMax which will drain battery much quicker. I am hopefully batter life will be better than Evo by a bit. It will not dwarf it I do not believe, but be much better.

Agreed. I called on Monday, no one knew anything about it. You'd think a company as big as BB would send out a communication to all employees (possibly they did, i just got the ones that don't care).

Anyone know of typical timing for Pre-sales on phones at BB? I would hope it's not more than a month out.

I work at AT&T (don't ask about me having sprint and working for AT&T haha) but we got the info and the demo for the HTC Inspire about 2 months before it came out. I feel like best buy throws people in there to sell phones. The fact that he swore up and down that sprint will never get a nexus shows me that he has no idea what he's talking about. To make it all better he was the manager... talk about fail.

With Vanilla Android I will not be so much worried about any roms. Right now with my Evo, and the Hero before that, I rooted to remove the bloat and Sense things. The only thing I want to be able to do on the Nexus is root and be able to have the hot spot for free.

I will be switching to the Nexus s 4g when it comes out. I have a rooted Evo and I'm just looking forward to a stock android experience (without having to root). Also I want to try out an android phone made by someone other than HTC.

I want to root to increase performance, but if the stock Nexus' performance is better then the rooted Evo's performance, I would only root it for the free hot spot, and for the other root-needed apps.

I am also looking forward to the stock Android experience. I think that that would be fairly fast, especially without Sense.

The Nexus S 4G will be a great phone, no doubt, but the hardware is a little dated compared to the EVO 3D. So EVO fans will be hard pressed to pick up the Nexus S when they have the 3D available as an option.

There should be plenty of roms for it, I have the original Nexus S and i have plenty of choices of roms, and kernels. Rooting imo is a must, just because i couldn't live without the sound quality of Voodoo Sound Control. I mean at least root it and still use the stock rom and install a voodoo kernel. The amp in the Nexus S is friggin mind blowing, after experiencing the sound quality i sold me ipod because i had no use for it anymore.

Plus if you were ever a fan of the Mattedblues theme for the Evo. Jabbawakkee has ported his theme to the Nexus S. And i don't see why it wouldn't work on the Nexus S 4G.

Also the Nexus S is blazing fast, I switched from an HTC Magic and let me say i don't know what the word "lag" means anymore. I'm loving mine with CM7 RC4 and the 1.3.0.2 Netarchy Kernel with BLN.

actually it wouldnt be a good idea to flash that theme.. as the frameworks between the ns4g and the nexus s should be a bit different due to the 4g stuff being added in.. give it some time and they will be running the same rom tho

Dated hardware or not, I ran the Nexus S on 4G with my Evo and it was plenty fast. Even graphics heavy websites fully loaded in seconds and 5-6 minute HQ Youtube videos lunched right away with no buffering. What more do you need? I am dropping my Evo for the Nexus s 4G mostly because I am tired of waiting for Sprint to decide if my new phone will be updated and then waiting for months to do it. Gingerbread has been out for nearly 6 months and my Evo is still stuck on Froyo, I am over it.

I wouldn't exactly say 'blows the doors off', but it's a bit better as far as hardware goes. For running on stock Android, no matter what, that's always a plus, unless you're a die-hard touchwizz (I don't know WHY on this one) or Sense (I just don't like sense at all) fanatic.

The updates are nice, though if you're like me those don't matter so much as does the community behind the phone. Many many roms are gonna be out for this one, and it's easy to manage as far as rooting and flashing. Well, hell, almost all Android phones period are easy to root now days.

I'm particularly interested in this just due to the form factor and hardware that's in it. The Galaxy S hardware always made me drool just a bit, but it being from Samsung made me forget about ever wanting one. **** me once, shame on you. Again? Hell, I'll just go slap myself in the face with a red-hot skillet before I let that happen again. The only reason I kind of trust this one is because Samsung has NOTHING to do with the updates. They can't dig their crap-crusted fingers into this one and jack it up. At least, not as far as I know, it being a 'Google' phone, from the ground up.

I'm switching from my EVO which I've had from launch. Works out well because I just dropped it and shattered the screen. $125 for a screen replacement vs $125 for the Nexus S with my $150 Premier discount + $75 for EVO buyback (even with the broken screen). It's a wash. I will miss the EVO, it's a real workhorse and I actually enjoy rooting and trying out new ROMs so that was never a negative for me. That being said It's a year old and I like upgrading whenever possible. Nexus S looks awesome, nice to have a pure Google experience device. Also has a nice developer community so I can still try out new ROMs. Particularly looking forward to this one:

Basically a port of CM7 with multi codec video support built in. Straight up hardware acceleration and handle's all wrappers (MKV, etc..) No more audio sync issues or choppy video playback of HD files with software acceleration (Rockplayer, Moboplayer). This is gonna be fun. Just wish there was HDMI out. Anyone know if they make a Micro USB to HDMI adapter? Curious as to how i can play files on my TV.

If I had an Evo, I'd wait for the Evo3D.

Many impulse buyers itching for something shiny and new will have buyer's remorse once the Evo3D goes on sale in 5-6 weeks.

I don't think this has to do with impulse much, because the Nexus S isn't new. Just added 4G. It's just people being a Sprint customer and now have the chance to have a Pure Google Phone. They wouldn't change carriers to get it when it came out in Dec. Otherwise I'm sure they would wait until June for the Evo 3D.
