Wifi strength On captivate is bad

I can walk the 40ft out to my mailbox and still have wifi with the phone. I've actually gone to the middle of the street and still had wifi. 75 ft easy including the distance to the router (center of the house, 15ft or so from outside), no wifi issues.

I tweaked the router... changed the channel from the default. My neighbors all have wireless, and if we're all on the same channel, that'll add to your woes.

does anyone know if there is any patch i can do on my captivate to improve the Wifi? today it wouldn't connect to a network that had fair strength and i knew i had the password right. I really don't want to return the phone, and i just rooted it.
What should i do?

Greetings and Welcome to the Forum :)

I've read your posts and by all indications, I simply think yours is defective. We must remember that all phones are mass produced and once in a while there's bound to be one that is defective.

Of all the makes and models I've had this is still one of my favorites. The wifi performance is excellent on the four that I have for my family.

Exchange yours for another one and you too will be very happy.

Cheers

I checked my reception again last night. I was able to connect to my wifi from across the street, in my neighbor's back yard. I was really shocked, to be honest.

Having worked in a 'mass production' electronics industry (automotive electronics... >2million units/year per project), I can state that if I marketed my products and they had this variability I would be out of a job. Every radio off our line went through extensive end of line product testing - including receiver sensitivity tests.

I'm already in the market for another phone. There are just too many issues with Samsung phones for my liking.

The wifi is actually better, now that i have power cycled it. It still is not satisfactory, but i can live with it. I really don't want to exchange it, especially since i just rooted it the other day. I bought a refurbished model, so maybe the wifi for the previous owner was a problem.

I'm glad to hear it's better :)

It is a pain to have to unroot it and return it to "out of the box" condition before taking it back. That said, the only reason I suggested it, is the WiFi performance on this particular model is truly quite good.

I have lots of Android phones and like I said in my earlier post, even though not the "latest and greatest" the Captivate has always been one of those I use from time to time and will keep in my collection.

Cheers
