Just ordered the Motorola Atrix from Orange which should arrive tomorrow so this is the HTC Hero's last full day. It has been a good friend completely transforming my expectation of smartphones. It will be interesting to see if the Atrix can take it to the next level.

As a heavy overseas user have been able to drive a deal on the Atrix with Orange. The business solo 35 18m will renew at

Does anyone know what the situation is with wifi hotspot tethering? I did this happily on my HTC desire, but the atrix says I am not authorised! Orange did not notify me of any hotspot limitations with my contract.

Rang them up today and the woman went off to speak to the technical department and came back saying it should work fine and has given me a direct number to speak to motorola about it tomorrow but i suspect it is a fault with my sim or contract. She did however state that if it turns out to be a fault that i would get a direct swap.

Got mine yesterday. Just popped into an Orange shop and bought it.

Shame they don't have the laptop docks yet.

Do you know of the general availability of the lapdock in the UK? I rang up my nearest Orange store in Aberdeen and they'd sold out - said they were expecting supplies but couldn't tell me when, which made it no good for reserve and collect.

The deals aren't particularly enticing - I don't think any decent smartphones are cheap at the moment - but if the accessories are hard to obtain it will kill the market for the Atrix I think. It's the reason you'd choose it over the Samsung Galaxy S ll don't you think?

Did you get this resolved?
I'm wavering about going to Orange for the Atrix, and if there's a problem with this it will be deal breaker for me

Well it looked like I as getting no-where after spending a couple of hours on the phone to Orange, being passed from one fairly clueless person to another, after finally I got passed to a "higher technical engineer" who actually knew what APNs were, what Android 2.2 was and was actually a very informative chap.

After playing around with APNs we seemed to be getting nowhere either until he stumbled upon a tidbit of information suggesting that if you use the standard orange apn, but in the last field "APN Type" rather than just typing 'default' you would put 'default, tether' After a couple of restarts the mobile hotspot now seems to be authenticating absolutely fine with Orange.

Everything else I am still happy with, few quirks of HTC Sense I'd rather have, but nothing major, at least LauncherPro fills in most of the gaps.

Any specific questions let me know.
