Root [ROM] ApeX V2.0.0 Beta (5/3/2011)

Restoring a Nandroid back to this .591 & Apex 2 beta as I type this .. from .595 deodexed/rooted. I miss Apex too much and I think my battery life was a bit better. I'll await the OTA release and Fab's presumed future work and stick with Apex! :)

Oops. I thought I had this figured out, only one small problem. When I try to access the "Settings", I get no where.. Nothing happens. Back in Apex 2.0 and .591. Any ideas?

Edit: Re-Restoring my Nandroid from .591 Apex 2.0 Beta just to try something. Hrmmm, Now I wonder if I should be clearing the cache. Oh well, I'll try that next.

Ok that didn't work. Still no access to "Settings" left menu - press settings = nada. Trying to re-install Apex 2.0 now via the original instructions.

Apologize if this has been asked but I looked through the thread and didnt see it...

If coming from Liberty GB (with updated kernel) can I flash just as I would with any other ROM or do I need to do something differently? Also, can I use the DX boostrapper or do I need the D2?

Thanks for the help and thanks to Fab for the ROM - cant wait to try it out

The restoring nandroid and settings disappearing has the same root cause as not being able to flash the themed (black bg) settings in the first install.

Still trying to figure out the cause of this...just be sure you have bootstrapper installed so that after you restore, you can reinstall Apex w/o wiping data to get Settings back.

Thanks Fab, and yes that is what eventually worked! :)

I am having a problem installing this. I do part one and it works great! I boot into Apex, install Droid 2 bootstrap and install part 2. After that, it boots up fine, but I cannot access any settings. This was mentioned earlier in the thread, but I did not see a definitive solution. The settings icon is not in the drawer, when I select settings from the menu on the home screen, nothing happens. If select the wifi settings from the notification bar, nothing happens.

Anyone have a solution? I backed up after I installed part 1. Do I even need part 2? It seems part 2 is what is causing the issue.

Thanks.

Edit: sorry I just saw some more posts about this issue I must have over looked before. Ill report back shortly.

Edit 2: After installing it part 1, then booting into it and installing part 2, then booting into and installing part 1 again, then booting into it and installing part 2 again, seems to have worked. Just had to install everything twice.

But now I have another issue. The car dock music player doesnt work. Which sucks because I use it all the time! It says "Playback problem Sorry, the song could not be played" Any thoughts?

Maybe if enough of us noob weenies beg, fab will take pity on us, buy a dock on eBay and figure out what .asp's we need to work the docks.

Working the docks: I coulda been a contenda!!!!!

fab has stated that all the blur is gone for his beta, and that you could try to manually restore each blur app, I found the root explorer available on the market and suggested by bouchigo to be a good tool. I bailed out when I started having more re-boots , I suspect because I didn't do a clean install per fab's process flow.:(

Bump.

Anybody know a fix for the car dock music player? Any fix will do. I know I can back out of the car dock app and run the normal music player, but I would rather use the dock one.

Is the car dock app an .apk I can try to reinstall? Or maybe a flashable zip like the keyboards?

Here is what I did with the car dock. I renamed the carhome.apk to carhome.bak. Next, Google search and find the Google car dock. You will need both the cardock and the launcher file. Using Root Explorer, enable R/W in your System\App folder and place both in there. Enable R/O and reboot. Instead of the Blur dock, you will have the Google Car Dock. This, IMO, is a much better dock. The Music works, and you have 3 customizable screens. However, a problem I was having is the light sensor was not working properly. It would jump randomly from 'night' mode to 'day' mode; resulting in the screen dimming and brightening. The work around is disabling the auto light sensor.

As a side note, even on the .595 GB leak, the light sensor is giving me fits. This was a constant from .573, all the way through .595 and Apex 2.0. It seems like the auto sensor gets stuck and no longer works after some time.

And a question for you, or anyone else for that matter, how is your GPS lock time? Mine was very long.

I'm in the same boat. Running Liberty GB v.05 and wanna give Apex a whirl before the OTA hits.

I'm on .591 and it's GB, so as I understand it, I can just flash as normal. My question is: Do I NEED the D2 bootstrapper? I already have the DX bootstrapper and other essentials, and although the D2 bootstrapper is only 2 bucks, I'd rather not pay for an app I do not need. :p

I just went from froyo 2.3.340 to apex. the first attempt went bad cause i went from 2.3.340 to 4.5.595 in one shot, skipping the 3 part update (oops) two sbf sessions later im back on .340, read some guides, did the update to .588, ran the kernel update, apex 1, boot then part 2, works like a charm, all my apps came back on their own, most of the settings were intact i.e. wireless connected to router, and my user dictionary was still intact.

this rom with better keyboard with gb skin is super awesome. no bloatware, almost 100mb memory free, with all of my apps installed before apex, phone is overall very snappy, smooth and the GPS works very quickly.

only issue is the led, i dont know if its working well, and the lights on the buttons at the bottom didnt work at first, neither did the clicking sound on the better keyboard at first. but now it works. just not the LED. anyone else having that issue?? other than that, couldnt ask for a smoother transition to a awesome rom. thanks FAB, your the best. and BTW the dialer.....is.....awesome!!!!!!

For some reason my phone wont go past the turn on logo, kind of getting worried here, i installed the kernel and part 1 thought i put part two on my phoen realized i had not and rebooted the phone is there anything i can do to get back to the boot loader?

**edit** Did the factory reset and still the same problem

it looks like you might have to sbf, i had the same problem when i updated from .320 to 4.5.595 without doing the 3 part patch, and my phone wouldnt go past moto logo, use rsd lite 4.9 and the full sbf file 2.3.340 and try again, thats how i know how to fix it, maybe there is a easier way

Okay, on Apex now.

Just downloaded the Blur keyboard .zip at the provided link, and I got the problem where it only displays Swype now. I'll try to flash it one more time to see if maybe something wonky happened, but I figured it was report worthy.

EDIT: And, now, after a second flash of the exact same .zip... it works. Oh well! Not complaining. Thanks very much for your hard work, Fab, and I'll be sending a beer or two your way!
