OTA update is live (for real this time)

Called Verizon:
They reset my account, had me pull the battery and sim, no change. Said it is because we are not getting the update yet. Up to a week to get it.

Pretty sure they're full of it, and they just have no idea what is going on. If that was the real reason, then I wouldn't have gotten a message a few days ago simply telling me there is no update available.

Installed the update earlier today and the phone has rebooted itself three times now since. (The random reboots weren't happening before the update). One thing I've noticed is the reboots have been happening when playing Doodle Bowl, so the reboots aren't exactly random.

Have had some 4g connectivity issues. Not sure if that's normal because I've had it turned off to save battery.

Got the update installed no problem and was hoping it would fix the GPS problems... nope. Still gives me the "accurate to within 2200 meters" (oxymoron? not very accurate at all). Poster above says the GPS works good for him now so I'm not sure why mine still sucks...

Mette711 - reverified.. GPS
Didn't notice the "Accurate within" distance.. It locked my location on a navigation..
Shut down phone - restarted. Activated GPS outside my house, close to the street.. GPS locked, showed accurate to 3 meters.. Map showed me outside my house correctly on the map.. I walked toward the house and the blue arrow reoriented and moved toward the house..

I'd say its good..

That's odd, I'm in San Francisco and I got mine as of this morning. Maybe the rollout is not based on region.

I tried again around 12:30 before I left San Francisco and did not get the error message. I actually got the checking for update window for a few seconds and then it went away with no further message.

I rebooted the phone and tried again while driving through Oakland and the update was found. Downloaded and installed it without any issues. Tested the camcorder to see if the sound issue was fixed and it was. The test video's sound was much improved. I still think it could be a little better but its a big improvement from almost no sound before the update.

Also, while I was writing this post I got a call and was on the phone for about 10 minutes. When I hung up the call my phone immediately rebooted itself. Hope this is not a sign of things to come, I was not experiencing random reboots as others have complained about prior to today's update.

Verizon now says that it won't be available until tomorrow: Software Update: HTC Thunderbolt™ Available Starting 5/13/11

...has it said that all day, and I'm just late? ;p

This explanation makes no sense to me...
Like I said, I have been checking for software updates regularly - since about 3 days before Verizon announced the OTA (and then later, said "jk").
There is absolutely NO WAY that the servers were "overloaded" then, and still are! Nearly every day between then and now, I have checked for updates, and I get the same error\message.

Either this is a false explanation - or Verizon seriously needs to put some money towards upgrading their servers.

Prior to Reboot #1: 4G - "Service Unavailable" ... 3G - "Service Unavailable"

Reboot #1: 4G - "Service Unavailable" ... 3G - "Service Unavailable"

Reboot #2: 4G - "Service Unavailable" ... 3G - "Service Unavailable"

Guess it's time to call Verizon...

Soo... it has been nothing but busy, since a few days before Verizon "announced" the update?

I NEVER saw this message on my Droid X - even the day of an OTA

+1.
Orange County CA...

I have been getting this error, for weeks! I started checking for the new update about 1 week before it was "announced", then I was checking all day until they said "nevermind"... Now I am checking again...
EVERY time, I got "Service Unavailable"! I was told to get LTE On\Off and try it on 3G, and that worked once. It no longer fixes my problem.

I FIXED THE PROBLEM.

With LTE On\Off, I dropped myself down to 1X (rather than 4G or 3G), and I got the update.

Do not install the update. My phone does nothing but reboot when its not plugged in. 3g locks up everything sucks. How could HTC/Verizon let this crap out. They had to know the bugs in it. THey are acting like microsoft. Release an update that has bugs. Then release aother update to fix those bugs but creates new ones.

I am very unhappy with them right now. I have a $249 device that I cant use.
