List your biggest complaints about Thunderbolt

When I had my Thunderbolt I noticed the build quality was not consistent. Kickstand are not aligned properly, recessed power buttons, horrible light leakage. The battery was a minor problem compared to that. My first one got some dust under the screen, second one had a blown out ear speaker, and the third one had the worst light leakage as well as a kickstand that was not in properly.

I took my TB back when the power button started sticking. That model had a good kickstand.

My new model doesn't :(

It falls over easily when attempting to use in portrait mode...

Might take it back again! Of course at this point I almost want to wait until a different 4G model comes out...

Browsing the web is a major PITA on this phone. The keyboard also lags a lot, not all the time but about 75% of the time, I have this problem with about 6 different keyboards including the stock one. I'm hoping CM7 fixes those issues for me but i'm not going to flash it until it's at least in beta, so far I'm loving the performance of das bamf stripped, it's the first rom and kernel that gives my thunderbolt better performance than my DX.

My biggest complaint is the kickstand is positioned such that you can't charge while the kickstand is in use (well you can, it just defeats the purpose). This is more a minor annoyance than anything though, as I don't really need the kickstand ever.

My battery is now going on 25.5 hours and has 16% left. I was mostly on wifi during this time so that seems to be a huge battery saver. If I am on the road or out of a wifi zone it seems to drain more quickly. Juice Defender claims it saved 1.24x battery, or 24%, but not sure if this is accurate.
Turn your phone the long way up and you can plug in the charger.

Mine is unbelievably fast. I am rooted and running a custom ROM: Ginger Remix 2.1

Took a while but I got it to stop lagging so much. I won't root her phone for a little while. She's fine with it being stock and I haven't rooted a phone in ~5 months so I need to get the SDK installed again and read over the guides.

I'm about to search through this forum, but, do we have a mass Swype complaint thread going? I think it is ridiculous that Swype won't work on the stock texting app.

Also, lack of 4G off switch is annoying. Shouldn't have to go into hidden menus to disable it.

Overall the Tbolt is a good phone, but I'll add my list of gripes:

- Battery life (of course); would be nice to play with my phone while in line at Disneyland without worrying about whether I'll have enough battery life by the end of a 6 hour visit. Ever watch Netflix without the phone plugged in? It's not pretty...
- Build quality. I was expecting something much better from HTC. I've been through several phones already for various hardware and display issues. The CLNR I have right now has light leak issues and would bug the hell out of me were I not using a case that covers it.
- LED notification light sucks. It's almost useless and might as well not be there. Major disappointment coming from a Droid
- Speakerphone is not very loud even with the kickstand out. On that note, when will we get separate volume controls for the speakerphone and the earpiece?!
- Charger placement; boneheaded design decision that prevents me from watching Netflix more.
- Display. Viewing angles aren't the greatest and I can see the grid of the touch screen when watching videos which is very annoying. Would it have killed them to put an SLCD in their flagship VZW device?
- Minor annoyance: you have to pull the battery out anytime I want to pull the SD or SIM card out

Software and radio issues aside that's about all I can think of at the moment.

It is SLCD. This phone is AWESOME!!!! Android just requires a bit more intelligence than iPhone. :D I was going to root as i did my OD, but don't really see the need...quite yet.

I'm pretty sure it's not SLCD (and if it is then SLCD is not impressive at all). Do some searching and you might find confirmation in one of the threads or on XDA.

Not sure where the iPhone comment came from, but to that some might agree and some might say that's a sign of a bad UI design. Guess it depends on who's koolaid you're drinking.

It would also be nice to have some sort of panorama feature like the Galaxy S phones do. If this exists or if there is an app then please someone say something.

Go on XDA and search in the Thunderbolt forums. There is a new camera apk that has panorama and HDR. Ive been using it for some time and it works great, especially the panorama.

I just picked up an HTC Thunderbolt on Friday for a trip out of town. I've spent most of my time since researching apps that make attempts at various workarounds for bluetooth issues, voice dialer issues, power issues, volume button issues, Skype video issues, network switching issues...

I won't even elaborate beyond mentioning the promised Gingerbread OS that has failed to appear.

I have barely had the phone 48 hours.

The non-confirmed voice dialing is ludicrous and the voice recognition software is an embarrassment. My not-so-smart-phone that I "upgraded" from did a better job. I'm forced to conclude that the citizens of Google

I'm forced to conclude that the citizens of Google’s smartphone empire have been duped. The Emperor has no clothes. To add insult to injury the Emperor is also morbidly obese, mentally handicapped, and emits the foul overpowering reek of the chronically unwashed.

I find it hard to believe that "Gingerbread" will address the myriad issues plaguing Google Android. The fact is that we keep buying these overpriced toys that are perpetually in beta. Cell communication is a mature technology that has proven itself worthy of widespread adoption by people serious about the ability to communicate while in transit. Smartphones in their current incarnation are a fad to be taken as seriously as the any other fad from adolescence. Problem is many of us are supposed to be fully grown adults.

Maybe u should give the phone a fair trial? How do u have voice dialer issues? Are u speaking into the phone? And if u want GB then root! If ur smart enough to create such a list, then ur smart enough to do that. :D

Or he can get an iPhone lol. I've found Android is for people that want customization. Anything else, go to the iPhone.

... I've had to install three separate third party apps in order to facilitate voice recognition for hands free BT dialing with verbal verification before connecting. Hours of research and work.

I just discovered that I have to activate wifi in order to watch my videos. WTF is that about?

I've solved the battery problem with an extra (extended) battery, LTEonoff, Automatic Bluetooth Toggle, Network Toggle, using the energy dashboard to keep wifi, sync, bluetooth, and GPS turned off unless I need them and to keep my screen as dim as possible.

Then there is the kickstand and charger port placement issue.

Does anyone at Verizon, HTC, and Google actually confer on implementation? Do they ever actually use these phones or is it all one big theoretical crap shoot for them? How do they not think any of this through???

In ten days, if this phone continues to be this high maintenance it's going back. I've acquiesced to the sad fact that the installed apps are mostly bloatware that needs replacing and that I'm going to have to tweak it even more than my DIY PC builds but there will be a limit.

Oh yeah, if Gingerbread doesn't appear with video Skype and Netflix the phone goes back regardless. Why does this phone have two cameras and a kickstand if there's no reason for them (Skype and Netflix)

Reading this post over I wonder why I don't just return it now.

I really don't mind customizing things, that's why I spec and build my own PCs. As far as rooting goes I don't want to void my warranty and lord only knows how many days it could take to get a rooted phone sorted out even with my PC experience.

On the positive side the Google Sky Map app is great for night hiking in the mountains behind my place, Multicon is great in small doses (no pun intended), after installing the new version of Google Reader and Listen its nice to have iss feeds on my phone.

Things I don't like.

1.) Battery Life. I have the extended battery on order.

2.) Can't plug in the charge cord when setting the phone on the kick stand.

3.) Doing a cold boot can result in HBOOT screen if you hold the power button down too long. It's easier to do with the phone plugged in because you can use the LED as an indicator and let go of the button.

4.) Video sound - worked at first but did not record sound the last time I used it.

I hope the Bionic has better battery life.

I thought The Bionic was cancelled?

Just purchased a Siedio 1600 mah battery. Hasn't arrived yet, so not to sure if its going to make enough of a difference. 1.(battery life is horrendous ) 2. light leakage? It's all good, I'm just not that picky. 3. Keyboard lag? It's there but it was there on my Original moto Droid and on my Incredible, so I've learned to live with it! 4. Reboot, its only happened once in the month I've owned it, so also not a biggie but for those that are rebooting several times a day...well that unacceptable (sorry) 5 kickstand/power plug interference also no big deal BUT I do agree that ..Wtf? Is htc not testing these phones all these simple problems although don't weigh to heavily on me, I can totally understand why someone would be bothered by it, ..... My biggest issue is the lack of volume through the headset, I use a top of the line set of SHURE earbuds $120 and they are not impressive when used on this device.. I plug the same headphones into my boys iPhone and wow !! Ok I'm done, I think :)

I should have learned from the Eris to stay away from HTC. Outside of my 14 days now though so I'm making the best of it. Too invested to switch from Android to an iPhone although it'd be easier.
