Is the Droid X really that bad

Lets not kid ourselves now. Froyo MotoBlur on the Droid X was a laggy mess. Gingerbread fixed everything though and it is VERY smooth. Almost iPhone smooth for me.

disagree with it being a laggy mess...my phone always ran fairly smooth...screen transitions for the Blur launcher were a joke...which was cured early on by LauncherPro...but other than that Froyo ran fine for me...

+1

Eclair didn't work well on the X. Fortunately I bought mine a week before the Froyo OTA so I didn't have to deal with it for very long. Froyo cleaned a lot up and I saw an incredible improvement in battery life. Yeah, there still were issues with it but after rooting, overclocking/undervolting and changing launchers, I am extremely happy with it in its current configuration.

Looking forward to an "official" rooted GB soon!:D

I absolutely love my X. Huge, bright beautiful screen. 30+ hours battery life (at least for me). And I don't know where they were getting the "laggy and buggy" crap from, but it most definitely is not. I'd assume all the bashing comes from "fan boys", who will bash and hate on whatever is their direct competition, like the whole "Xbox is better than PS3" and vice versa.
30+ how the heck do you manage that? Even on my best day I still have to charge it before bed time. (unplug at 730am. Usually have 50% by 1 or 2pm)

Arpar, I was seeing almost 2 days out of the stock battery on mine before I rooted and started using the hotspot (that drains the battery pretty quickly unfortunately). I do keep the screen backlighting to 25%, which is just fine for my eyes, as well as turning the wifi and BT radios off when I don't need them. If I use the DX heavily it [might] make it through to the next morning, but its never an issue with normal use. Perhaps you might have an app that is using a lot of battery power, or keeping all the radios on? There are some good threads here that talk about maximizing the battery - perhaps they may also help?

my backlighting is almost down as far as it will go. I don't have anything syncing constantly (email, weather and whatnot). I am overclocked and undervolted thanks to quickclock advanced. Its all just fine tuning for how you use your phone.

To be fair, when I was constantly on my X for work, I was getting roughly 14-16 hours. And that was with heavy usage.

Being hated is a good thing, people hate things that scare them. Which is why the iPhone gets hated on everywhere you look.

If you look around do you hear anyone bother saying, "I hate the Palm Pre"... nah, it's nothing to be afraid of. People bash those things which are raise up on pedestal, that they want to knock down.

Getting bashed is good, means you're doing something right.

My DX crashes often, and is laggy. Love hate thing. Love the screen and battery life. A full day on the extended battery is nice wiht the stock cover is great. Love the accessories, docks and car mouts, love HDMI out also.

I would try to factory reset. Use Titanium backup and/or my backup pro to backup all apps/settings first. The wipe and reset. I usually factory reset every 3 months or so. Seems the DX gets glitchy otherwise.

I will be completely honest in my reply.
This phone is trash. I regret ever getting it. I don't recommend it. I can't cant afford to change it so I will continue to use it but I hate it.
here's a list of my problems:
It freezes constantly
Battery only last about 8 hrs with extended battery
The cam recorder doesn't work
the phone locks up
the software looks very cheap
The music player says" player cannot play this file type" they're all mp3s
I do a battery pull atleast 4 times a day on a good day
the phone book has duplicates of all my contacts
the messaging app sucks at predicting your words
my screen has a water mark-look alike portion in the middle of screen because its touching in center of phone
etc etc etc
this phone is constantly under update which makes it Spool unreliable because you lose a lot of your data ( see at the top how it says spool instead of" soooo" im not going to correct it cause I've been doing it every sentence and im tired of it)

This phone is crap. If you give this phone any real use it starts to do all the crap its doing to me
Anyone who claims 30 hrs plus of use DOES NOT. Really use their phone

I hate that im always in here looking for help never posting anything fun or cool about my phone cause its always eating ****!!!!

^Thats amazing. Cuz I got my X at launch and I have gone 24-28 hours when I was testing my battery, the stock battery. My display was on for a total of 3-4 hours. I would call that using my phone. That was an 1/2 an hour to an hour of use of everything I could think of: talking, browsing, playing games, etc.

I can play mp3's, mp4's, wma's no problems.
Mine doesnt constantly freeze.
My phone locked up at times and my FM radio did cause me to do battery pulls, but since I'm on a GB leak I dont know if its that or issues with the phone.
Dont have the phone book issue.
Cant really comment on the messaging app, dont know what you really mean. I use Swype to type so...
No screen issue except a few scratches from many, many drops.

Like with any phone, a few lemons dont represent the entire line. Especially the X. Especially when you say the camcorder doesnt work. There are threads of ppl that have posted clips they took with their X. If yours or a handful of folks camcorders dont work and everybody else does....If your phone is lasting 8 hours with an extended battery you are either a heavy, heavy, user or something's wrong with your phone. The phone being "constantly under update" will eat the battery life if its constantly re-downloading the update. Some of us learned this with the Droid 1.

Your post and some others like yours goes against the majority of the threads in this section...lol Especially battery life. Thats one of the biggest pros for the X.

I couldn't agree more. I have loved my DX from day one, and I wish I had gotten my wife the DX instead of the D2Global, nothing but complaints from her about battery life on the standard battery. It will literally eat through he battery within no time flat. It's rooted so I'm gonna put Over/underclocker and go with a lower voltage, like mine.

Depending on usage I will get normally get about 12 to 14 hours on average, on extended battery. I work during the day so I either leave it on the car charger or off the charger, I know something is wrong when my phone eats through or nearly eats through battery in the 8 hours I'm in work.

I have round certain apps if left running will drain your battery, primarily TweetCaster and the Twitter App. They get shutoff and only turned on when I want to check the two accounts I have.

I usually just eye the Droid Incredible forums because that's the phone I have and I have been noticing that the Droid X get's bashed a lot over there for being to laggy and buggy etc....
I'm only curious because of the news that Asurion is out of Incredibles so if my phone breaks I would be getting a DX so...
What's your opinion on the phone
I've had my trouble-free Droid X for 7 months now. Maybe the "Experts" over on the Droid Incredible forums know something I don't know, because I haven't had a lick of trouble with my Droid X. Mine is fast it never freezes and I have a ton of apps in mine.

This is the best phone I've ever had (or seen to date) in my opinion. I am getting my wife a Droid XII when it comes out. I certainly wouldn't be getting another one if it was a P.O.S.

^Its like this...for the most part ppl in specific forums will bash anything that isnt theirs. The Droid X section, I have to agree with other that say this....doesnt do as much bashing as others. Thats wild cuz there are former Incredible users in here. Strange.

I never used an Incredible, but I have used Sense UI and I feel its nice, very nice compared to Blur.

Some ppl put way too much importance on lag. The stock launcher on the X before Gingerbread lagged, I could see it. It wasnt to the point that I woulda got rid of my phone because of it, but I could see it. Same for unlocking the phone. I could see it, but it wasnt like trying to stir molasses.

What kills me is looking at WP7 clips on youtube about how fast WP7 scrolls, like ppl will actually scroll their phones that fast on a regular basis...lol

This is getting childish now. I posted about my personal experience not something else.
I'm not here to bash anything or anything. I obviously bought the phone because i thought it was amazing but its obviously NOT for me, so I'm not going to glorify the phone when it ISN'T working properly.

There are a ton of forums that I have looked at where people post the same problems I am having. So out of the million users there are out there, this is happening to more than a few.

I use my phone for this:

texting, words with friends( which updates every 2 seconds...) surfing the internet, quite a bit, and music at the gym.

My music app ALWAYS freezes on me, there is no fix except a battery pull, sometimes twice. The phone says it doesn't read my file types??????? they're ALL mp3. my messaging up lags, that means i type faster than it. so when i type instead of showing me the letters in order like ( h , e, l, l, o.) it goes (hell-o) it displays my text in lagged fashion. The android platform is KNOWN by everyone to be unstable when compared to, say, the iphone. Its because its new and because its got the availability of customization and such BUT, having a phone like mine, which is ROOTED and rooted ONLY to be able to tether, not to run roms or themes or what-not- it should work so much more stable than someone running all those hacks. I tether, thats it. Only use of my root is tethering, did i say i tether only? jk lol

So, sorry for BASHING a phone i OWN, but in my life, in my reality ,this is the truth and this is my situation- so i give this phone a 2 out of 10 rating. I am, like i said, forced to use it because i have no other phone or the money to change (student)

so, i hope to god this new update makes this thing more stable, because its all obviously software based. Otherwise we will always remain #2 in stability when compared to the powerhouse that is the iphone.

Again- I own the phone, I have an opinion, I posted nothing more than that. Not trying to start arguments.

I think everyone here doesn't realize that you are on such an old version of the OS for the DX (v2.3.15)

If I were you I would immediately switch to at least v2.3.340.....it has been rooted for many months now. Apply it by using "maderstcok" or sbf your way to it.

I didn't think anybody was still using anything under v2.3.340, but I guess they're still out there.

Or even simpler yet, factory reset your phone and upon reboot, go to the "System updates" on your phone's settings menu and update it that way........or if you get the update message, update the phone. If you are getting the update message now, and you have not made any changes to your phone, and are simply rooted for tethering, then just accept the update.

Sure, but you FIRST stated that the Droid X sucks because of the problems you were having. That's not a fair statement-- you're one of the rare few having those problems-- what you meant was that YOUR Droid X sucks because of the problems you were having. So you were corrected by others. No biggie, sucks that you're having problems, I'm sure they're fixable (as bo said, update immediately) I hope you get your phone into a condition that you like, one it's certainly capable of achieving.

^Yes, exactly. Key word is YOUR Droid X. YOUR Droid X doesnt represent the entire line. With all the problems that person is having, and most are not, its that specific phone, or specific phones, and not the entire line.

Phones with worse battery life than the X? That usually represents the entire line. Just on hardware differences alone.

brute, if updating your phone doesnt work, can you try a new Droid X? I could understand a lil if this was your 5-6th phone. I have always been lucky to never have problems with any phone I get that needed outright replacing. Its just ALL the problems you are having defitinetly doesnt represent the X. I dont think they represent ANY Android phone, maybe low end ones, I dont know.

Just wondering, have you gone through all attempts to get the phone performing to your expectations?, ie clearing caches, factory reset, etc...? if so, have you tried calling Verizon and seeing if they could send you a replacement as you could have a hardware issue. Just a thought, in my past experences the (most of the)customer service reps do everything they can to please the customers. Not wanting to offened you and discount your opinion, just that it seems that you are having severe issues that could be resolved. Just trying to help.
