So, how is the OTA treating you?

Eh... I'm not gonna factory reset just yet. Today is the first day that I've had massive reboots... the first couple were random and days apart from each other. Before the OTA, everything was fine.

I said this in another thread and I'm starting to believe it...

Being that Verizon usually tests the shit out of their OTA's - see Droid X or Droid Eris or OG Droid - delaying the release of the OTAs because they want to iron out every issue they possibly can before releasing ... it makes me wonder why they didn't do that with this one...

I have a feeling this OTA was simply a test of the LTE network to see how well it handled an OTA. The real update - Gingerbread - should be close behind. Especially with a leak coming out today: Gingerbread Test Build Leaks for HTC Thunderbolt - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

had the phone off for about an hour... now it's been on for 2 hours and no reboots. Maybe some magic did happen?

To highlight what I said before - during the reboots, the boot animation had no sound. When I physically shut the phone down and then turn it back on an hour later, the sound was back for the boot animation. I wonder what that has to do with?

Whoa!! Experienced my first random reboot just moments ago!

I did the update last Thursday...factory reset over the weekend. This is not supposed to be happening to me, right? And you're right...boot animation did its thing without sound. I later did a manual fast boot and sound was there again. Just one message to HTC and Verizon...come on man! I mean can't you do a little better than this?

The " Magic " has worn off Android for me. Samsung Galaxy GPS Horror, Moto Atrix Throttled Beast and HTC Thunderbolt I thought i had found Nirvana, then came the infamous update, as I am writing this it randomely does it thing once again. God I like this phone but this is horrible. I have done the battery thing and the factory reset thing. Now I am going to do The Apple Thing........

Sorry, was away for a few days, and haven't really delved through all of the replies yet.

I have already talked to a rep...who didn't know anything about the reboots at all, the day after I received the OTA. She sounded VERY surprised that this was happening at all, which...doesn't really surprise me. I'm sorry, but the reps aren't always very helpful.

She did suggest that I do practically everything you should do when you start experiencing problems: power cycle the device...blah blah blah.

Then she told me to remove the battery for about 30 seconds and then replace it.

I have only had one reboot since then; this was about... four days ago? Granted, it's still annoying as hell. But one reboot versus the 6-10 a day I've been hearing about is better than nothing.

Hopefully...and I'm not holding my breath here...Verizon pushes out another update, stat, to fix this. Hell, throw in Gingerbread. And make the damn netflix app work on the phone too. (even though the reboots are a more pressing matter, naturally.)

Then I'll be pleased as punch.

I wish I'd never updated!! I was having "force shutdown" issues and crashes before but at least the stupid phone was staying on (though I was missing calls, emails, and skype calls)! My husband is deployed and the stupid thing wont stay on long enough for me to get his calls!

I did a reset through the settings -> SD&Phone Storage -> Factory data reset and it rebooted immediately several times, before I'd even gotten the phone set back up.

Then I did another reset using the power on while holding the volume down button and it worked for about 5 hours before shutting itself down randomly.

I'm beyond annoyed. Do we wait for another OTA update? Do we take it back to Verizon? Which is better at this point? I NEED a reliable phone right now, and specifically bought this one so I could do skype video with my husband while my daughter and I are out and about instead of tied to the house for the next year.

Also, is it considerable to note that when I reset it the first time I had it plugged in and it was rebooting constantly. After the 2nd reset I did not plug my phone in until much later and just after I did (within 10 minutes) it did it's first reboot. Is there any relation?

FWIW...for those having ongoing rebooting problems since the update (I've had one so far), you may want to give htc support a call and let them know. I called this morning to see what they might be doing about it and they claimed to not have a single report of any such thing happening. The tech. checked the system wide known list of problems and only came up with a notation that some users were having problems downloading the update. So, one would imagine it might accelerate a fix if htc at least knew about the issue. The whole thing is just kind of weird.
