HTC Gingerbread update.

Got my update on Monday 16th May afternoon. Got a desire hd on orange but got an unbranded phone from p4u. Tbh haven't noticed a lot of difference on phone. I like the settings tab on notification bar but don't like the 1 page scroll on app menu. The battery life, speaker level and general speed etc all appear to be what they were. New software no is 2.36.405.8

Also should I be backing up before i go for this update? And if so how do i save my messages/contacts/etc etc to SD card?

Hi Helen100,

I ready your message after I had started doing the update and thought to myself "oh dear, what have I dont " but can confirm I didnt lose anything. I started the update at 4.35 and its all done at 5.04 (over wifi). So far all good.

Hope this helps.

ATB, Jon.

I have just read on the WiFi forum that HTC told someone that called them that he believes the gingerbread update has been withdraw because of the amount of people having WiFi issues and will not be resumed until they find a fix.
Still being offered it on my unrooted OrangeUK DHD.. (as of 30 secs ago)
All this time waiting, only to find it has 'issues'.... typical!!

Impatiently rooted my other DHD and happily loaded/running seraphic-0.3 ROM on it
Guess I may as well go ahead and root this one too & forget about OTA *sigh*

Hello all, first post tonight....

I have a Desire HD with 3. I believe that it is unbranded as there is no bloatware or startup screen like three normally throttle you with....

Anywho, i checked today and subsequently downloaded the 2.3.3 update OTA from HTC (2.36.405.8 CL47853 release keys). Three have confirmed that their version isn't being released until the end of May (which is another reason i think mine is unbranded).

However, my wifi is now fooooooked. The phone phone connects to the router but i can not do anything with it, there appears to be no data being sent or received..... HELP??!!

I've contacted HTC via email as it 9:20pm in blighty so i'll let you know what happens....

My wife had a similar issue in that she was unable to use the internet ( just a blank screen ) but Twitter still worked.

I fixed it by going to settings, applications, manage applications and clicking on Internet and force closing & clear data. Not sure if yours is the same problem but might be worth a try. You will lose all your bookmarks though.

Hi guys, got notification of update this morning and resisted untill i got home and looked on here.
Im desperate to update but really worried about this wifi issue. Is it pretty much a fact that you will have wifi problems ie weaker signal? If so why on earth would anyone want gingerbread. Also very concerned about emulators not working as someone mentioned anyone else tried psxdroid, n64oid etc?
Also do you have to back up you contacts, apps and games?

The said, "Hi, we have been told that this is in test presently but we cannot confirm if or when this is being released at this point. Thanks.", to me this afternoon.

I have read on the T-Mobile forum today that they are releasing the update on 1st June. How true it is and where the person who stated it got their info from I don't know.

I'm new to the whole smartphone thing, just bought my DHD a week ago and I'm running the stock system, which I think is Froyo (The 2.2 one..), that came with the phone, what's the benefit of updating to the new version? I don't want to do it myself, and Telus will do it for me for free, I just don't really know if it's worth it? Are there advantages and disadvantages of the update?
