Droid 2.1 Limitations

"Let's avoid inter-android fighting, remember who the enemy is. Not HTC Eris hero etc, not n1, not g1, but crab apple's iPoop.
Apple cares more about the glory and control over everything then they care about their customers, look how long it took them to get copy and paste. Basic stuff should be incorporated before putting on the shelf."

Agreed, but the way apple did the copy/paste is not so BASIC! Its the best copy/paste in ANY touch phone screen. So it was well worth the wait! Copy/paste on the droid/android plainly fails big time! But yes I do like my droid a lot.

Widgets? Flash photos? FLASH PLAYER (will come soon, and not to iPhone)? Refunds on paid apps?

Off the top of my head (in addition to above post)

The guy said other than flash pictures.

The Apple App Store has refunds for paid apps also.

And you really have no idea when the IPhone is getting flash. If I am not mistaken, Adobe has it ready, its Apple that is dragging their feet.

It is really pathetic that people have hatred toward a piece of hardware. Truely pathetic. Did it hurt your feelings or take your lunch money? Did it beat you up on the playground?

How does it fail big time? It works with very simple steps. Not sure how that fails.

And yet this one phone is whooping all of Android ass. People still getting iPhones over Android to this day.

Besides the lack of true multitasking and having a LED flash. What can the DROID do that the iPhone can't RIGHT NOW?

here's a lil list for ya
1. use as a hard drive
2. plug into ANY computer without installing ANYTHING
3. make my home screen absolutely unique
4. turn into a flashlight
5. run a danged circular saw over the screen without a scratch (not really, but close)
6. plug into a car stereo and talk hands free without horrible echo
7. share through bluetooth easily to almost anything BUT an iphone
8. uhhhhh a lame ass metal detector (well the iphone just can't)
9. freakin star trek tricorder that has actual information
10. picture slide show straight from phone to computer with no copy/paste or extra software
11. type with an actual keyboard
12. listen to any mp3, wav, or any other music file without drm
13. separate files into folders
14. HIDE FILES IN FOLDERS!!!! (ha ha ha)
15. this is a big one ....... TALK ON THE PHONE WHEN I WANT

it took me about 2 minutes to compile this list, and i there's a lot more, but for the real answer .....

what can this phone do that the iphone can't....

...... ANYTHING I WANT !!!!!!

the question you should be asking is: what can the iphone do that the droid can't.

1. drop calls
2. lose 3g
3. cost more per app
4. conform me into everyone else

i bet it's a pretty long list

and off the subject, but not only did apple not invent the touch screen nor even make it i common thing, but they really didn't invent anything at all about their product ... they just made it white. ask nokia.

Btw, if it wasn't for apple, we would own bulky htc phones with the dumb names they like to use, orbit, jasjar and you know the rest. Not to mention we would have crappy hardware and low resolution screens and 1900 operation system. Apple made everyone spend their cash in developing and now their catching up fast. Can't wait to see what apple does next!

Neither phone uses a hard drive.
Both phones can be used as a flashlight.
The echo with hands free talking is from the other hardware, and has nothing to do with the iphone. Better hardware will not have that problem.
ITunes no longer has DRM. It was removed a while ago.
Cost more per app? Care to show where you got that information from?

one last thing. yes, the iphone is whooping ass.....it should be whoopin, not whooping, if you want to sound really awesome. anyway, yes they're whooping ass, but that doesn't make it better. just ask creed, godsmack, or any other horrible talentless band/singer. hey, twilight's really popular! that must make it a great movie. pppffff. the xbox 360 stomps all over the ps3 in sales but the ps3 destroys the 360 in every single area BESIDES sales and developer support. i mean, processing power, dependability, value, capability, BLUE RAY, and it doesn't sound like a rocketship taking off when you pop in a disc. so what have we learned class .... BETTER SALES DO NOT EQUAL PRODUCT. let's be honest, the vast majority of people only bought the iphone because they're buddies bought one and they don't want to be uncool. it's a slick, smooth media device. it's not a good phone. you can talk on phones....usually.

uhhhh. plug in your droid to a computer and mount it. your computer will call it a removable disc. so you can use it as an external hard drive. oops, i mean flash drive. look at me living in the dark ages with that "hard" drive stuff. yes the iphone can be used as flashlight ... actually more like a glowstick. LET'S RAVE. the echo is coming from the phone picking up sound coming from the car speakers. the droid is great at canceling this out. the iphone does not at all. i'm a sound engineer so i can assure you that it is not from the "other hardware." it's i physical thing that is called feedback. you're right .. no drm. how about the rest of that line? will it now play wav files? and you should look up the stats on paid apps. iphone users spend $80 on average. here's the only link i could find on-the-fly that shows a direct comparison. you'll see that iphone users pay more. cha-ching. i realize it's older, but that's what i could find. also, about 60% of android apps are free, less than 20% of iphone apps are. so there ya go.

Everyone make very valid points, I love my Droid there is no other phone or device like it around. but I believe the question was will the Droid have physical limitations running 2.1 and I haven't seen much talk on that but I think its a very good question. Any input?

But someone said iphone!;)

I would imagine that once 2.1 comes out, optimimized for the droid, it will be fine. The specs are similar with the N1, it'll just be a bit slower. I've been running a 2.1 rom for abit and the biggest problems are with the physical keyboard. Now that the 2.1 sdk is out, it seems like a matter of time before a droid optimized version comes out, ota or otherwise.

Apple App Store doesn't have refunds! And if it does it's def not obvious! I've been burned several times on games I paid $7 for and turned out they were crap!

And Adobe specifically states iPhone will not have flash until apple changes their policies...which is more than likely never.

Here I go perpetuating the very thing I hate most about AF-

They do allow for returns, I believe you have to contact Apple.

And maybe if you weren't too busy typing exclamation points you might have noticed that text you quoted basically agreed with you in terms of Flash.

Remind me again why we are discussing Apple in a thread about 2.1? Anyone?

Because many Droid owners have a major inferiority complex. They always refer to the iPhone as the iPoop, iSuck, or some other witty name. They must turn everything into some kind of anti-iphone argument. Reminds me a hell of a lot of ps3/xbox bullshit. It's called being a fanboy, and it is sad and pathetic.

There is no way in the app store to get a refund, perhaps you can navigate thru the apple help lines to get to someone that maybe perhaps will get you a refund (never seen anything even on the website mentioning a refund policy).

As for the quoted text. You said we don't know if iPhone will be getting flash, well adobe said no until apple changes their ways....which apple won't do....so again, more than likely never.

BTW, what inferiority complex are you referring to? I have a Droid and an iPod Touch (iPhone without the crappy service), so I really don't understand what inferiority has anything to do with.

well once again, THERE IS NO WAY TO GET A REFUND IN THE APP STORE!

They had to go searching to find a way to contact someone that was nice enough to give them a refund. There is no refund button like in droid marketplace.

You can take the time to search around and find a way to contact someone to get a refund, but at that point it's just not worth the $6 i spent on the app.

"find a way to contact someone"? He went to the Customer Support of ITunes. That would have been one of the first places I went.

i forgot i signed up for an iphone forum. with all these dumb iphone supporters on this site. were all on here cause we want something different then the iphone. we all know what it can do and what it cant we all had a choice and im guessing we all chose android.

So we should all be immature little kids and hate a piece of hardware that has done nothing to us? What kind of logic is that?

You people are just as moronic as the PS3 and 360 fanboys. Grow up.

Sorry that I am an adult and don't act like I am 7.
