Root X ROMs on X2?

That was what I was thinking. Even with a lot of the same hardware the dual core has to have some implications on building the kernel. It is just hard to wait.

I doubt it is just the processor. Do we know everything else is the same? All the chips inside? No one that I have see has done a tear down. One noticeable difference is the lack of a camera button, so while the physical dimensions may be the same, i'm betting everything under the "hood" is different.

encrypted. no custom roms. unique roms based on stock, i.e., overclockable, de-bloated, themed ... yes. Custom? no. not until Moto gives out the keys to the bootloader.

I'll just point people to the Droid X and Droid 2 development communities. Even with the eFuse locked boot loader, a lot of custom ROMS, Stock ROMs and even over clocking has come out. Two months from now this will be a non-discussion. Its just patience.

For now, enjoy Root and all its glory: Underclocking the processor, Wireless Tethering for Free and the ability to lock out some of the bloatware.

We could be in a much worse off situation. Look at the Droid Incredible 2, they only have temp root which needs to be redone every time they reboot the device. Shoot, we could not even have Root!

i think verizon has stopped the free wireless tethering... though if it works for you go for it. just beware, they are cracking down on that problem

I think its not to abuse it. I have the 4G MiFi as well but use the phone when I don't have that with me. I personally believe you should only use it when you have to. If you need something all the time, then get a MiFi. People who "abuse" the root tethering are the ones that not only get busted, but also ruin it for everyone else. Remember, by using it you are violating your wireless agreement with your cellular carrier.

what Steven meant by "custom" ROMS is ground up built from scratch...even the OGX and D2 DO NOT have these...everything up to this point has had to start with Motorola's work as a base...

now...we JUST got CyanogenMod7 for the OGX...which is our first real custom ROM...

i would be very careful doing a lot on your DX2. What happens if you get stuck in a boot loop or need to SBF? Until there is a working clockwork recovery and an SBF file to safely use on it i wouldn't even root a DX2 unless your a fan of bricks.

...also i have to ask. How pissed are all of the DX2 owners that the OGX has official GB and the DX2 doesn't lol.....

^^^me throwing fuel to a fire....lol
