Help WIFI signal level

Hi,

Just upgraded from a Desire to a HD.

I can sit in the same place in the house and get zero WiFi signal on the HD where as I get 1/2 bars on desire.

Seems like WiFi drifts in and out on the HD whilst old desire is rock steady - anyone else found this?

So far, I didn't notice it.

I'll have a comparison with both of my phones at home

Is your Desire HD running Gingerbread??
There's Wifi issue in Gingerbread...

With Gingerbread the WiFi reception is not worse than before

With a weak WiFi signal, WiFi only earlier switches to 3G.

Not every user is getting the issues, only people with certain Routers...

I have the issue on two wifi networks in my house - a Thomson router and a BT business broadband router. Patch needed I say.

I had a comparison with both of my phones at home.
Yes, the Desire HD shows about 10% less WiFi signal strength than the Desire.

I used "WiFi Analyzer" to measure.

Don't think its a gingerbread issue as the phone was the same 'out of the box' running froyo.

Im thinking its a hardware problem on the (some?) HD and I'll just have to sit closer to my router!

Something similar: As I read, with the Desire S with its nice Alu unibody the 3G is not so good as with the original Desire.
The Desire HD has a nice Alu unibody too.
But a full plastic back cover can be better penetrated by radio waves

my phone is defiantly switching from mobile to WiFi far more often in the house than it did before GB.

Having the same WiFi problems. Was round the parents and the WiFi would connect then drop straight away. Installed a different Rom thinking that might have been the problem and stopped dropping, but now it says the signal is really weak when I'm right next to the hub. Really odd issue.

I have switched mobile network off when indoors so its forcing it to stay with the WiFi even if the signal is week.

I also spoke to htc tech support and they suggested switching off mobile data when indoors - bit of a pain but seems to have solved my problem of using up my precious mobile data!

Seems to do the trick! WiFi reception equals that of my old desire - just have to remember to switch it back on....
