What Tasker profiles is everyone using?? (This thread is NOT for requesting help with profiles)

Others have already made a few answers to this, I'm just going to condense it for anyone else you might want to know (It's pretty complicated now, and I'm not 100% sure that Task 7 will work correctly, so cross your fingers!).

If you usually stream music through your phone, use this setup:

Context:
1) +>Event>Received Text (Type = Any, Sender = leave blank, Content = leave blank)>Done

Task
1) +>Phone>Send SMS (Number = %SMSRF, Message = I'm driving please call me)>Done
2) +>Audio>In Call Volume (Level=Whatever sounds best when you test it)>Done
3) +>Audio>Notification Volume (Level=Whatever sounds best when you test it)>Done
4) +>Audio>Media Volume (Level= 0)>Done
5) +>Tasker>Wait (1 Second)>Done
6) +>Misc>Say (Text = SMS from %SMSRF: %SMSRB, Engine = eng-USA, Stream = Call, Continue Task Immediately = UNchecked), If %BLUE matches ON> Done
7) +>Misc>Say (Text = SMS from %SMSRF: %SMSRB, Engine = eng-USA, Stream = Notification, Continue Task Immediately = UNchecked), If %BLUE matches OFF> Done
8) +>Tasker>Wait (2 seconds)>Done
9) +>Audio>Media Volume (Level=Whatever you want it to be when you play your music)>Done
10) +>Audio>In Call Volume (Level=Whatever level you want it to be normally)>Done
11) +>Audio>Notification Volume (Level=Whatever level you want it to be normally)>Done

Now go back an add Context
2) Whatever context you want to use to establish that you are in the car... such as +>State>Bluetooth Connected

From the Tasker Wiki:
Auto Respond While Driving - Tasker Wiki

I've added the additional info the author refers to:

After you import this profile from the Tasker Wiki, all you have to do is this:

Open Tasker and press the Tasks button at the bottom of the screen.
Select New Task at the top of the popup.
Name the new task "Convert_LOCSPD_MPH" (without quotations)
Select the "+" to enter an action
Select Variable
Select Variable Set
Name the Variable Set: %LOCSPDMPH
In the "To" field enter: %LOCSPD*2.23693629 (there should be no spaces)
Put a check mark in the "Do Maths" box
Select "Done" to save your action
You should be done. Now to test:

Send yourself an SMS Message so the following test applies to you and not the last person who texted you.
Open your imported Tasker profile and edit the Auto Respond (If Driving) task.
Select action number 5, the Send SMS action.
Uncheck the "If" condition at the bottom of the action and select Done to close the window.
On the next screen, select Test, wait for the Kill All button to disappear, then hit cancel (so you don't have to go back and check the if condition--it'll already be checked because you cancelled instead of saved).
Wait for your message to appear--your message should state you're traveling at 0 MPH.

Now, when you're driving (or riding) if you send yourself a text message you'll receive an endless supply of text messages until you stop moving. At my job I have the periodic opportunity to fly aboard C-21s...the reply to myself said it wasn't safe to text at my current speed of 494.681 MPH!

Wow!! I paid for Tasker like 8-9 months ago. Uninstalled it, for some reason, and forgot about it. After resetting my phone, I was going through 'my apps' in the Market and re-downloaded it. Never once bothered to set up a task. I'll have to read through this thread carefully for some tips.

Couple of things I'd like it to do, which probably can be figured out from previous post:

Turn on GPS/BlueTooth when plugged in my car. Don't know if there's a way to get it to differentiate between being in a car or somewhere else... But if it's plugged in, does it matter?

The biggest thing is probably switching from BT audio to phone speaker when switching inputs on my car. Example: I'm listening to music from my phone in the car. I want to switch to the radio, but I'm also listening to Nav directions. Once I switch my car to radio, I want the phone to switch from "BT headset with audio" to just "BT headset". I guess it's like this with most cars, but the phone part still works when the car is on the radio, so I can keep that one.

EDIT: looking at the Tasker Google Groups, someone else was having problems with profiles not activating after the update. Apparently, the only suggestions are:

reboot

reinstall Tasker over current

Backup everything, delete, then reinstall Tasker

Thank you!!! I had this really smple profile:

Context:
- Orientation = facedown

Tasks:
- Vibrate 200 mS
- Set display timeout to 10 seconds
- Set keyguard on

That's it. It wouldn't work. It did the vibrate thing, so the facedown event was detected, but that's it. Screen didn't go. Couldn't figure out why. No other profiles were active. This solved it.

Hoping someone here can help me out with a profile I'm trying to set up. Essentially what I want to do is when my phone is in the car dock to turn off the keyguard and turn on the bluetooth, and then to reverse it when I undock the phone. Although sometimes I'm still on a call when I undock my phone so I don't want it to turn off bluetooth if there is an active call. Here is what I've managed to come up with so far:

Context: Docked - Car
Task: Keyguard Off
Bluetooth On
Exit Task: Keyguard On

I think I need to throw a Bluetooth off in the exit task with an if statement to check the call state but I can't figure out what that if statement should look like. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone,

I asked this a little while ago, but thought I'd ask it again.

I'm trying to get Tasker to toggle my wireless on and off, then connect me to a wireless network if it finds a known network.

At the moment, I'm using three profiles:

Auto-Wireless Wifi Near:
Context: Wifi Near (Min. Active Signal Level: 3, Toggle Wifi On)
Task: Stop

Auto-Wireless NETWORK 1/2
Context: Wifi Connected (specific NETWORK 1/2 SSID)
Task: Wifi ON (specific NETWORK 1/2 SSID).

However, I'd like to tweak these profiles such that the phone only connects to the network IF the signal strength is at least 3, and for the phone to disconnect from the network IF the signal strength drops below 3. Otherwise, if I'm on the edge of a wireless network, then I can't access the internet at all. I think setting the Min. Active Signal Level to 3 achieves the first of these two conditions, but not the second.

Would creating the following profile fix my problem?
Auto-Wireless Stop
Context: Inverted Wifi Near (Min. Active Signal Level: 3, Toggle Wifi On)
Task: Wifi OFF.

I must say, I don't fully understand the Wifi Near context, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
God bless.

Ok, this has boondoggled me since the last Tasker update, and I seriously need to know if anyone else has come across this.

I have Cell Near/Wifi Near profiles taken directly from the wiki. Now, before the last update, they worked great. Now, since the update, the Cell Near will trigger, but Wifi Near...is a spaz. I can sit and watch my wireless pop up, drop within a few seconds, pick up 3G again, drop, wireless, drop, etc, etc. It isn't working at all anymore, and it's just the Wifi Near profile that is doing it. Is anyone else having a problem with theirs?

(And yes, I've: reinstalled Tasker, uninstalled and reinstalled, re-imported the task. Nothing is fixing it.)

Also! I asked this question of Pent, and while I've gotten better at writing profiles (good grief, I have like twenty of them), this one stumps me. I want two sleep profiles that trigger at different times: one is all the time, one is every other Saturday (and cancels out the first profile). He suggested:

Day: Saturday
Task:
Variable Add, %FLIPFLOP, 1, Wrap Around 2 <--- toggles %FLIPFLOP
between 0 and 1
If %FLIPFLOP = 1
DOSTUFFHERE

I have:

The first profile is

Context: Friday, from 20:00 to 23:39

Enter Tasks:

Variable Add: %SATFLIP Value 1 Wrap Around 2
If %SATFLIP matches 0
Perform Task: Sleep Sat

Sleep Saturday 2 is

Context: Saturday, from 1:00 to 3:59

Exit Tasks

Variable Add: %SATFLIP Value 1 Wrap Around 2
If %SATFLIP matches 0
Perform Task: Wake Sat

It...doesn't work. Or rather, both sleep sat and sleep triggered at the same time, and kept trying to run together and it was a mess. Has anyone else done profiles like this that can give me a hand?

I have an application called GrooVe IP. It will allow you to make and receive calls through Google Talk. I have Google Voice which forwards to GTalk so this is can be used to save your minutes.

I prefer to use it only over wifi. I have free nights and weekends so I don't need to ever use this application during those times.

Contexts:
Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri
From 07:00-20:59
Wifi Connected

Task:
Load app GrooVe IP

Exit Task:
Kill app GrooVe IP

I cannot get the Tasker to kill the application. I have use root checked but it still doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this to kill?

Try directing it back home. That effectively "kills" Custom Car Home app for me. It's under App in tasks.

There's an action available to disable or enable other profiles. Have you tried adding an action to your Saturday profile which disables the "every day" profile? Then you probably need an exit task to re-enable it so that it can activate again.

Give that a shot?

Im having issues: I want to be alerted when I find myself blessed by the data network Gods with 4g, but I can't get the mobile network context to simply alert when 4g is connected. Simply using state:mobile network: (only 4g checked) I tried checking everything except 4g and inverting, which works...except that it also gives me a false notification everytime I get a text or call. Ideas? Evo4g on Froyo.

No idea what the heck you mean. I've figured out some things about Tasker, and other things.....not so well.

Only 20 profiles? ;)

Anyhow, what Amlothi was hinting at is to use Tasker > Profile Status. But to do an alternating Saturday thing, you would need 2 Saturday profiles, which from your description is what you have. This way you don't use any variables.

Profile Sleep Saturday
Context is whatever:
Tasks:
- (whatever you want to do)
- Tasker > Profile Status, in the Name box put your Sleep Saturday 2 profile name. (If you already have it set up you could just select it in the list using the magnifying glass button), in the Set box choose On.
- Tasker > Profile Status, select the first Saturday profile (yes the one you are currently working in), Set it Off.

This turns this profile off and the other one on.

Then in your Sleep Saturday 2 profile:
Context is whatever:
Tasks:
- (whatever you do)
- Profile Status 'Sleep Saturday', Set: On
- Profile Status > 'Sleep Saturday 2', Set: Off

VERY new to tasker, but figured some cool things out.
I need help achieving my primary goal" I want four widgets on a screen so I can switch between profiles (I think, as opposed to tasks). I click on 'school' and a bunch of stuff happens. Then I click on home and a bunch of other things take place. I think I'm having trouble because I'm unsure how to set up exit tasks (or if I should have them at all).
I have custom icons to use for the state of the profile on, off, just unsure how to use this setup with multiple profiles' widgets, if that makes sense.
Any help, or re-direction to a good walk through, would be loverly. The Simple Widget xml file on the wiki was not quite the solution, and Uncle Google is being lame this evening.
Thanks, MP

I am using this method to turn profiles on and off:
It works well, but I'd like to have a different icon for whether the profile is enabled/disabled per this method. I've tried setting the widget icon in the tasks of the profile, as well as setting the widget icon as part of the tasks of the widget. Any help would be wonderful, thanks.

You've tried the Set Widget Icon command and it didn't work? Because that's how it is done and that's how I use it and it works for me.

In your Enter Task set an icon, then in your Exit Task change it back using the same command.

If this isn't working for you, maybe posting your profile and task might help.

Also, are your custom icons in the correct location and the correct format? Can you select it through this command, or is that your problem? Try using one of the built-in icons and see if it works using them. That'll help narrow it down.

I think I understand, though I also realized I didn't explain myself so well the first time. I also need that Saturday profile to run from 8 PM Friday to 3 AM Saturday, which means (as per Pent's suggestion) I need two Saturday profiles to basically function as one. The profiles I want to toggle are the two Saturdays (as one) one week, then the next week a regular sleep profile that runs the other days.
