Root [UPDATED 28/12 - NEW INSTALLER] CyanogenMod 7/Android 2.3.4 Is avaliable for GT540!

So if I understand this correctly, I am to connect my phone to my pc, then start a command prompt and type the fastboot.exe commands. Then I have to disconnect my phone from my computer and then re-connect When I get 'download mode' before proceeding.
Yes that's right.

Is this to say that I can only flash my phone now to the fastboot enabled Carphone Warehouse 2.1 ROM I installed prior to cyanomod, and can not flash to my O2 2.1 ROM that I had prior to CW ROM?

EDIT: Um, it's just occurred to me that perhaps you mean that the flashing you've described, with the fastboot.exe commands can of course only be done with fastboot enabled ROMs. Yes? Funny what a read back of your own questions can do for you. :D Well, at least I hope that's what you mean. :S
Yeah that's what I meant, you can install your O2 2.1 ROM if you want, but if you need any fastboot related commands, you'll need the kdz+fastboot rom.

Over and above, well, the above, is it not simply possible for me to connect my phone to my computer and flash to the ROM I want using KDZ_FW_UPD. That is, what is the necessity for using the fastboot.exe commands at all?
What d'you mean it's not possible for you? The fastboot commands wipe all the data on the device, it's more of a compatibility thing to make sure that everything gets wiped and deleted so no conflict occurs.

Because of problems I am having with this cyanomod, namely:

The phone will not turn on USB Storage for me to access the SD card. After clicking the button, the rotating icon just keeps on rotating.
I cannot import all my contacts from my SD Card.
I cannot connect to the internet, which also means anything requiring internet access will not function.
I cannot connect to phone via LG PC Suite to import/export anything.
Your USB storage problem is probably cause by Swapper2, if you don't use it, uninstall it using Titanium Backup. That'll solve the problem.
D'you get an error when importing?
Are your APN settings correct for your carrier in your country?
If you want syncing to your computer, read this

I haven't even begun to test other things and I'm fed up with it already. I appreciate your efforts here, very much. It's allowed me to play a bit, but really, I'm at the point now where I don't care if I brick this bloody phone. :D
Well hopefully my solutions above will sort out any problems you have, if your still having problems, don't give up. There's loads of people here including myself that are here to help you. It's one of the reasons I started this thread :p

Alternatively there is a KDZ file you can flash which will re-partition the NAND memory on your phone to give you a 150Mb system partition and 233Mb data partition. This will effectively give you "data2system" (i.e. 233 Mb for /data) but you can flash any rom onto your phone. With data2system method quoted above the /system is flashed on the "userdata" partition and the /data on the "system" partition (the two are swopped around). This means for example that you can't flash ZIP updates through recovery.

The KDZ method does not have this limitation as /data is still on "userdata" and /system on "system". I'm using it on my GT540 and it works great. Details:
[GUIDE] How to easily re-partition your phone to increase your Data Storage - xda-developers

First of all i want to thank both of you dudeman and johannr for the response;)
If i use any of these methods will i be able to restore back to the original state?I'm just asking because i just found out that my battery is a little bit cracked and i'm thinking about sending my phone to lg to see if i can get a replacement(still in warranty)
Btw i have no idea how that happened..I didn't drop my phone or anything. It is still usable, but i'm worried cause a cracked battery can't be a good thing:(

*EDIT*
Ok just saw that i can restore back so scratch that. The battery is still cracked though...:(

Well since you've rooted and flashed a ROM, you've already voided the warrenty. But going back to the stock 2.1 kdz they'll never know ;) It's easier to just buy a new battery from the internet, they're pretty cheap: Amazon.co.uk: lg gt540 battery

No, I didn't mean it wasn't possible, I was asking if it was. I had basically misunderstood what I could and could not do with flashing. Anyway, everything you've said regarding this has now clarified it for me.

Your USB storage problem is probably cause by Swapper2, if you don't use it, uninstall it using Titanium Backup. That'll solve the problem.

Fixed.

D'you get an error when importing?

Yes, tried importing through contacts and it kept saying no vcards found. I eventually put my SD card into my dongle to access it on my computer and exported my contacts to it from LG PC suite in the form of vcards. Still got the error from the phone. I was finally able to import all my contacts from my Titanium backup using adao file manager. Though I did initially get the same error, after reading your response to me I tried again and it finally worked.

Are your APN settings correct for your carrier in your country?

Didn't have a clue what APN was, so googled and found the settings for O2. I had assumed that these were automatically sourced by the phone from the SIM card. Anyway, input all those manually and I now have internet access on my phone.

If you want syncing to your computer, read this

I'll check that out.

Indeed, it's all pretty much sorted now. So I've gone from thinking it's all a disaster ... throw the phone in the bin ... but maybe stamp on it first, for good measure :D - to relief that it's not all disaster and I won't have to buy a new one. ha. Thanks so much for all your input and the impetus your reply gave me to keep trying.

Hello

I need some help flashing my GT540

I am running the official Android 2.1 from LG. I have downloaded:

KDZ Updater Europe Open.zip

and followed "Instructions to install ROM with Fastboot:". When the installation was done, my lg.home.proc was constantly crashing. No clue why. It stopped after a few minutes. Then all worked. To be save I did a factory reset.

When I see the LG logo I press and hold the HOME button to enter recovery ("How to install via recovery:") but the screen stays black and I have to remove the battery. When I press and hold power+camera button ("Installing CyanogenMod automatically"), the same happends.

Did I do something wrong? Thanks.

Recovery doesn't come with the phone, you have to install it through fastboot. If you put your phone into fastboot mode (power+camera) then connect it to your PC and run the auto .exe, it'll install CM7 and recovery for you. Then you can boot into recovery :)

Thank you for your reply. I am one step further now.

When I try to use fastboot I get the follow output:

C:\Android>fastboot.exe -w
erasing 'userdata'... OKAY
erasing 'cache'... OKAY

C:\Android>fastboot.exe erase system
erasing 'system'... OKAY

C:\Android>fastboot.exe flash system system.img
sending 'system' (148801 KB)... OKAY
writing 'system'... FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))
Please assist what to do next. Thank you!

edit: Whatever I do, I get "FAILED (command write failed (Unknown error))"

I pulled the plug, retried and it worked.

Thank you very much for making this available. My Linpack score went thru the roof, from 3,912 to 7,159. Comparing it with Android 1.6, its coming from 2,200.

This means the GT540 more than TRIPPLED in speed.... I'm amazed...

Did you put the phone in Download Mode and change 'PhoneMode' in KDZ updater to 'CS_EMERGENCY'?

I tried updating my LG GT540 from official 2.1 to v2.1 w/fastboot (Europe Open) and ended up getting an upgrade error wparam : 100 lparam : 4008 error message.
Compared to the first few times where I tried to upgrade to that rom straight from Donut (where simply removing and putting back the battery was enough) now when I try to start the phone it has me select Android or LG bootup, and no matter the option it goes to the home screen but error messages ("process such and such could not complete") pop up and nothing can actually run. What should I do now?

Try putting the phone in emergency mode by holding the vol down button and powering on the phone. 'Emergency Mode' will be displayed on the screen. Then change the 'PhoneMod' in KDZ flasher to 'CS_EMERGENCY' and the other to 3GQCT. Then try flashing.

SwiftDroid v2.0 Milestone 5
MAY28
2011 LEAVE A COMMENT WRITTEN BY DUDEMAN1996 EDIT
Mur4ik has released v2.0 M5 of SwiftDroid, the changelog looks pretty good:

(+) Less aggressive memory management (improving multi-tasking).
(+) Increased strength of vibration.
(+) Stick in mass storage mode without the drivers (it works only when the ADB is turned off in settings).
(+) Added Ukrainian dictionary keyboard
(+) Improved energy +10-15% battery.
(+) Upgrade to CyanogenMod 7.1.0 RC0
(+) Few shutsree and more stable

The only problem is that the site he uploaded it too is giving me very very poor download speeds, so if anyone can find another site mirror, then I can
