Just in case anybody is interested.....

I bought the Galaxy S2 official case by Samsung at the weekend from Phones4u.

I have to say it's a lovely case - leather flip style.
It has a plastic moulding on the back panel to hold the phone and a magnet at the top to hold the front closed.
The front panel flips down so it hangs and doesn't get in the way when you are talking on the phone.

I had a gel case before (which encroached on the edges of the display) and going from that to the new case makes the phone look WOWOWOWOW!

The full front panel of the phone is available in full effect and boy doesn't it look great!

I would recommend this case to anybody who wants their phone to still look brand new in 6 months time.

once again lol at the "genuine" samsung case with a magnetic clip, that is not recommended to be used near the phone.

(P.s, dont take this wrong and not get the case. i like it and probably get one too!)

WHere did you read these phones can't be used near a magnet? Why would they make this phone different from all others which CAN be used near a magnet? Heck, on my Moto Droid a magnet was REQUIRED for some things (it told the phone it was in car dock and docking port)

As for the S2 case - there's many much better looking cases at an store that sells cell phone cases. Just buy a generic case that your phone fits into :)

the official S2 manual states
Do not store your device near magnetic fields
●● Your device may malfunction or the battery may discharge from
exposure to magnetic fields.
●● Magnetic stripe cards, including credit cards, phone cards, passbooks,
and boarding passes, may be damaged by magnetic fields.
●● Do not use carrying cases or accessories with magnetic closures
or allow your device to come in contact with magnetic fields for
extended periods of time.

Hehe, my manual didn't have any English.

I love the 2nd point they listed: has NOTHING to do with cell phones at all. I think most people know not to put their bank/credit cards near strong magnets :)

But for the record: the S2 doesn't get wrecked by weak magnets - the kinds in carrying cases, or docks.

I'm waiting for my S2 dock to arrive, and have been using my Motorola Droid dock (which has the same micro USB-B connector) to charge it in, and it's working just fine. I have to insert it vertically (instead of horizontally as it won't fit), and backwards, but it rests rather nicely in my Droid dock - which has a small magnet.

Strange they'd make the S2 'no magnet'. If you get a small magnet and move it over the back of the Moto Droid it will kick it into car/dock mode. The Moto Droid dock and card dock have magnets in them to do specifically that. Maybe the Droid was the only phone to use magnets this way. 'Not sure.

Sorry I saw the lip balm and put 2 and 2 together! Is it the same as the one on mobile fun, someone had posted a link above?

I'll make sure to not have anything in the background next time so as to not distract viewers (re: lip balm)

As for the other part, I really don't know what you're talking about. Is WHAT the same as on mobile fun? And... WHAT IS mobile fun?

EDIT: Oooh you mean the case. Well if you read my posts you'll see that I dn't have the case, and told people to save their money and buy any generic case that the S2 would fit into :)

But some people may get worried about their S2 and the little old magnet wrecking it if it's a case with a magnet on it. But I've had my S2 next to a magnet on and off for 24hrs now, and it's working just fine. I really wouldn't worry about a magnet on a carrying case.

For the record, I REALLY don't think any manufacturer is going to allow a phone to be released that is destroyed by everyday magnets. It would allow a malicious person to go to a sports event or concert with a magnet and destroy hundreds of peoples cell phones without them even knowing. If any phone was susceptible to being destroyed by a magnet I'm sure we'd have heard about it loooong ago.

Would be a great way to destroy the phone of the annoying person next to you in the movie theatre who decides to text repeatedly throughout the movie. Put a magnet in the bottom of a popcorn tub, brush it up against the guy/gal by accident.. whoops! Sorry about that. Aawww.. Phone not working? That's too bad. :) :)
