Root Wireless Tethering Apps

Nope, you must be rooted to install (have Superuser abilities). Once you are rooted, simply put it on your SD Card, use an app like Astro and install. You will be prompted to allow non Market apps to install though.

Guess I will enjoy a couple more weeks of free tethering then go through the root process to get this going. Thanks again. :)

I would like to hear ur result. Because on my Droid X Gingerbread VZW started blocking rooted wireless tether.

this will be the final straw if I should buy it or not

Don't know how they can block rooted tether. I got rooted last night and am using android wi-fi tether now w/o any problems. Have not tried barnacle yet. I do not see the need if I can get access w/ wireless tether.

Downloaded Barnacle and have been using it w/o any problems as well. Don't know why you are having problems w/ the X

Thanks Shadow for the patience. I just completed the root process and was successful! Now I am enjoying root access and free tethering. Now how can I get rid of the bloatware on my Charge?

Apps are all located in either /data/app or /system/app. I believe all the stock apps are in /system/app. Do the first two steps of the thing I told you to do in Terminal Emulator before (su and mount). Then:

cd /system/app
ls

ls will give you a list of what's present in the current folder (/system/app). Look through the list it gives you and then type in rm [app you want to remove]. So say you want to remove an app whose name is "App.apk", you would then type

rm App.apk

Please note, this IS case sensitive.

Alternatively, download the paid app Root Explorer and you can delete them with a graphical interface as opposed to a command line.

Im trying to get a adhoc tether on my droid charge. I have tried several aps with no luck.
Im running rooted with gummy charge gbe2.1
Do i need to go back and stay with gingerbread?
any help would be appreciated
Thanks Russ

I ran into the same problem when I moved over to 2.1 Ginger. It broke my old tether. I have found that Open Garden Wifi Tether from the market works just fine as I am using it right now.
