Gingerbread release incredible s

I am from the Philippines (using the GLOBE network), and I am using an HTC INCREDIBLE S (unlocked) that I purchased in Hong Kong.

I just received a system update notification this morning.....informing me that the Gingerbread update (2.3.3) is now available.

---------------

Downloading process
--- the phone downloaded the update files in the background (using a wifi connection) so I can still use my phone. You are given the option also to use your mobile data connection if wifi is not available. The file size is 90+MB if I remember correctly.

Updating process

--- after downloading, you will be asked if you want to start the update process. This will shut down the phone, and you won't be able to use it for around 10 minutes.

After the updating process
--- the phone will start up like before. The first thing I noticed ---- the live wallpaper was VERY sluggish! The screen was not as responsive as before. Since this is the first start up since my update, I just let everything run for the first time. After around 3 minutes, everything settled down and my phone ran smoothly already.

First Impressions

-- The screen is MORE RESPONSIVE than Froyo.

-- Moving from one homescreen to another is SMOOTHER.

-- Browsing the web is SMOOTHER and multi-touch is more responsive.

-- I can now easily switch cameras from rear to front when taking photos (there is a new shortcut on-screen). The MIRROR app uses the front facing camera as well.

-- System fonts are definitely BIGGER......but NOT TOO BIG that they look blown out as if like you are using a low-res android phone. Saw this change in MENU SETTINGS, MESSAGES, MAIL, CALENDAR, CONTACTS, and GALLERY list. The change in the font size makes everything easier to read, but I would still prefer a smaller system font. Hopefully this can be changed in the settings.

-- Scrolling through the main app list in Grid View is now PER PAGE.......not an endless scrolling page like before.

Still playing around with Gingerbread 2.3.3, but so far I am loving it!

Android Version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense Version: 2.1
Software Number: 2.12.708.4
Hey thanks for the review! I heard about problems with Gingerbread and was wondering if I should update or not. Have you had any troubles with wifi dropping? I saw another thread with a lot of complaints about that.

I haven't had any trouble with my Wifi connection dropping.......yet.

But I'll keep you guys posted.

May be Asian ROMs are corrected after the learnings from UK ROMs ....
It wud be great if you can get to compare Wifi signal drop on a Desire on Froyo and Inc S on Gingerbread...
Am trying to do so...
any observations wud be great..
Thanks..

Android Version: 2.3.3

After a few days, here's an update again on my Gingerbread 2.3.3 upgrade:

---- Screen Responsiveness is better than ever. If there's one reason to upgrade to 2.3.3, this will be it!!
---- Found the increase in font size very useful. Everything is easy to read.
---- No more sluggishness when using live wallpapers

But I just encountered my first big problem with my Gingerbread 2.3.3 upgrade. The Music Media Library got all messed up!

I have around 4GB worth of mp3s stored in my Incredible S, all of them with Artist/Album Tags and Album Art. The Media Library was arranged cleanly before the upgrade. But after upgrading to 2.3.3, i observed the following in my Media Library:

--- Missing Album Art in some albums.
--- Some Albums are listed repeatedly (ex. The same album listed 10x!)

My songs are located in a separate "MY MUSIC" Folder which I created.

Even if I delete all the files, and copy them all over again to my sd card, the same problem appears.

These files were properly tagged with Album Art saved using MediaMonkey. All the tags are still intact when viewed on my PC. But everything gets mixed up when I copy them back to the Phone.

Has any of you encountered this problem?

I just solved my Music Library problem. I Synchronized all the tags using MEDIAMONKEY.

1. Select all your MP3 files
2. Go to TOOLS > ADVANCED TAG MANAGEMENT > SYNCHRONIZE TAGS

This process took around 10-15 minutes since it will need to go through each MP3 file.

After this process, my entire Music Library returned to normal - all artists and albums listed correctly - and all album art restored. =)

well, after upgrading mine to mine to 2.3.3
the phone has been getting messages a half hour/hour after they are being sent, usually from people i'm about to meet or are right next to me.
so HTC are idiots.
they've ruined whatever was working fine beforehand.
And no, it's not a network problem,
I put my sim back into my Nokia N8 and I get messages instantly, funnily enough, how a phone should work.

They really need to look into fixing this ridiculous Messages App in general because it is a phone, primarily, so if you can't program a handset to send/recieve a simple text message then you should probably stop making phones HTC.
or at least ask Nokia/Apple how it is done properly.
I'd suggest HTC send them a text message but, oh, if Nokia wrote back it wouldn't turn up on the Incredible until half an hour after it needed to be answered.
Useful.
In my 11 years of owning Nokias i've never been so offended by something so simple not working the way it should.
HTC Inconvenient you could say.
Quietly Useless.
