yeah I just saw this thread today. I'm curious to see how many people have the same success with it as I did. I literally have spent HOURS in the past (probably over 20 hours total) trying to get RSD and th SBF to play nice on my laptop with no success... wish I'd had found that info BEFORE I got rid of the X lol (well, gave it to my girlfriend) it would have made my modding at home much more comforting lol. oh well, hope it can at least help one other person out.

The Droid X has an encrypted bootloader that is of CIA quality - nobody is gonna break that code. There is a workaround for it however, and the developers have made use of the Droid X bootstrap, and with Gingerbread the Droid 2 bootstrap, permitting custom roms to be installed. The only thing that can't be changed is the kernel - but there's hope that Motorola, who seems to have changed their minds about custom roms and rooting in general, may simply unlock the bootloader (they DO of course, have the keys), either by some sort of OTA upgrade, or just release it to the development community at large.

No, what I was trying to explain was why the custom rom developers are not attempting to unlock the bootloader. Unlocking requires breaking the encryption - and as I said, that ain't gonna happen anytime soon. The developers have pounced on the opening that was found in the software of the bootloader, which allows "workarounds" - which is where the Droid X and Droid 2 Bootstrap devices come in. They permit developers (and users) to circumvent the very much locked bootloader and install custom roms.
