Root Unroot before servicing?

First off, apologies if this is the wrong forum for this thread. I'm not sure if it should be here or in the Support and Troubleshooting forum.

Well, this is probably a stupid question anyway, but I seem to have broken my battery. The phone refuses to turn on and when I plug it in, the notification LED just flashes very slowly, instead of staying steady. Fortunately, my wife also has an Incredible, so I can put her battery in mine. I know the phone is still good because it works that way, and her phone doesn't work with my battery.

Now the question I have is, should I unroot to take the phone in to have them look at the battery? I'm hoping we can get a warranty replacement for it since we've only had them since November. I'm thinking I probably should unroot, only because they're going to be turning the phone on and looking at it. seeing things like CWM, Ti, and PdaNet might make the techs a little upset.

The only problem I have with unrooting is, I end up with a stock factory phone that I then need to "alter" to make it look like I've been using it for the past six moths. Meaning I need to put on the apps I normally use and add my bookmarks and other little things. So is all of this really necessary to have them look at the battery, the phone, and hopefully replace the battery for me?:thinking:
 
Just go buy another battery. Battery isn't covered under warranty usually.

If you decide to unroot, it doesn't matter to a verizon rep if it looks like the phone has never been used. Just tell them you did a factory reset to try and fix it if they ask, but there is zero chance of that happening. Reps are under trained and under paid and could really care less. The only fixes they know are factory resets.

All you have to show them that it charges fine with another battery but not with the current one. Don't even have to turn the phone on.

Also just could just make a nandroid of your current rom, and flash a completely stock rooted rom for when you bring it in.

i doubt that they would try and check your hboot or recovery and discover that you have an s-off phone or clockwork recovery. they prolly will do nothing more than factory resets or reboots. you could even delete the superuser app in your app drawer so they dont see that.

assuming that you rooted with unrevoked3 and are thus s-off,if you want to run the back to stock PB31IMG for peace of mind they wont see recovery while fiddling, its a snap to get recovery back,and your nandroids. even if they want to push software to it,i think your s-off patch should remain.

but again,the liklyhood theyll check anything troubleshooting a battery is slim to none. heres prolly what will happen: youll take the phone in,explain the situation. theyll put in a battery,it will turn on. the rep will feel like a genious(;)) and then theyll either replace the battery for you(but prolly not) ir theyll charge you for a new battery.

Oh, as it turns out the battery was just fine. There were no techs at this location, but the cashier took it out back, popped in a new battery, and it of course worked fine. She told me the batter was completely dead. *facepalm*

I hadn't let it get that low in so long, I had forgotten what it was like. Thanks for the help, though.

so your battery just needed to be charged? Facepalm indeed.

In light of this conversation, I have to actually send my phone in since I am getting a replacement for a bad micro-usb slot that has been inserted into more than Paris Hilton (rimshot please!). Anyway I am getting my replacement today and the phone still works, just a bad plug. Should I unroot before sending the phone back?
