What are you doing with your old Eris?

Still using my Bone Stock Eris as my everyday phone. I've had to do a couple of factory resets, but other than that it has been a great phone for me. I am going two day between charges all is good. Then again I don't make alot of calls or texts I guess I'm not a power user, but it work great for checking my e-mail & facebook.

Wow I can't believe all the positive things I'm hearing about the Eris.

I just finished rooting it and have been trying to find a download link that actually doesn't send me to more and more links to flash a rom onto it (I've been at it for over 9 hrs) I'm obviously not giving up.

I plan on getting the Droid Charge come December unless something newer and better is out by then.

This is my 3rd Eris since Feb of last year and I just reallized this phone sucks majorly coming from using all Blackberries last one being the 8330.
  • all 3 have lag on placing calls (hello, a phone that can't possibly do it's essential function?) Shame on HTC
  • the phone starts to do random stuff for no reason: places calls, opens up internet, other apps.
  • The cursor radomly jumps around worse than my son off of his severe ADHD medication. (definately not funny) It happens while trying to text or on anything else you may be able to type on.
  • It is slower than I don't know what (tyring to keep rude comments to a minimum).

Welcome to AndroidForum, Dulce14u!

So, you just need ROM link / page that is pretty simple to install or need other details about flashing, etc.?

xtrROM is pretty straightforward:

[ROM][GPL] xtrROM5.0.1 odex,cache2cache,apps2sd,jit,lwp,oc[3/29/2011] - xda-developers

(there are optional things you can flash, but you don't have to).

Same deal with xtrSense (from the same dev):

[ROM][GPL][3/15/2011] xtrSENSE5.0.1 [cache2cache,apps2sd,oc,jit]-HTC Sense - xda-developers

GSB is actually really cool and only has two main things to flash (the ROM and the Google apps):

[ROM][6/23] GSB v3.6 Odex/De-OdexFIXED | GB 2.3.4 [CM-7.1.0 RC1 NIGHTLY] - xda-developers

and last, but certainly not least, all the cool kids ;) seem to be installing Condemned Soul's CM7:

[ROM] 6/23/11 Condemned CM7 V12 CM7.1 RC 1 - xda-developers

I'm sure a few others will reply back with their more relevant feedback than I can give.

Good luck and cheers!

I found a Droid 1 on Craigslist for $50, dropped the insurance and put my Eris in a drawer as a backup. I'm not sure if the Droid is better than the Eris but it will get me through until I can upgrade at the end of September.

With the exception of it being really thick, and having a mediocre (at best) hardware keyboard, it'll perform better than the Eris.

Honestly? I am waiting for September to see if the rumors about a competing system's phone are true. If they are I will buy said phone in a heartbeat. If they are not I will buy the current version of said phone in a heartbeat.

After which, after hearing me complain about my Eris for so long, my friends and I are going to have a "Destroy the Droid" party. Bricks, hammers and fire are planned to be used. I intend to record the proceedings!

You could say I'll be happy to get rid of it. ;)

My new Droid 1 actually seems to be slower than my Eris on everything except app updates. It regularly freezes for 10 or 20 seconds. My Eris never did that except of course after making a call and the Droid 1 seems worse on the dialer lag.

Still using mine to this day, and it still works great!

Got mine Jan 13th, 2010 and have used it since on page plus. It was my first and only smartphone, and it's been a fun ride. From all of the root rumors, the excitement of finally obtaining root, trying different roms (still happy with xtrSENSE 4.2.1), to it working perfectly today after at least 15 drops from lap to asphalt, I couldn't have asked for more from a phone.

I will not be upgrading until the phone is confirmed dead; I have been very happy with my $29.99 bill each month.

I am still using my Eris. It has been a faithful and devoted companion, And after I rooted it and tried several different Rom's I am happy with it's performance. No its not the fastest, newest, greatest device but for me it works. If I want to play games I have a Tablet to do that. I will eventually replace my Eris but not for a while, I am enjoying changing roms and otherwise making the phone the way I like it.

+1

My contract isn't up till October, so a few more months at least with my little guy still. It absolutely still does everything I want my phone to do, so until proven dual processors with 4G come out at a decent price and this guy still works, I'm sticking to it.

In March, I got to have my sons Motorola Droid with a couple of weeks ago I dropped it and cracked the screen. While I was using it my HTC Droid was sitting in limbo as a back up. Unfortunately, I had to pull it back out last week and reactivate it as my main phone. It's a little slow for me now that I've gotten used to the speed of the Motorola Droid.

Droid 1 rooted or stock?

Rooted of course. Running Droid Concepts build 11. Overclocked at 800 mhz. I just had to reboot it twice to make this post. The Droid 1 seems to handle video better than the Eris but not a lot better.

I get the impression that Motorola runs the UI at a lower priority than HTC does. Very frustrating. I hate dealing with computers that have more important things to do than responding to ME! I bought this little computer to use, not to gaze at it's screen while it does it's own thing.

My upgrade date is coming up next week, but I may not upgrade immediately as my rooted Eris has been almost perfect. I am running xtrROM on the latest version and am OC'd at just under 800MHz. I have switched to another launcher that allows me to lock my home screens. (Love it!) I keep mine clean and running as fast as possible while using some tricks to conserve battery life, and limit any potential lag. My web experience is the only thing I am not thrilled with on the Eris right now. But the screen is almost too small for it anyway. My Eris has long outlived my own expectations of the device.

I think I will be upgrading this fall but want to make sure I get the right device. For me, just a little bigger screen and 4G would make things a world better.

My worry really is with all the giant screened phones out there I may miss my Eris in the end.
