While I am probably not going to hop on the tablet band wagon too soon... The asus Transformer seems to have a unique position.

I am personally tired of people mentioning "well a netbook is a few hundred dollars cheaper" because, if you just want a tablet you don't need the keyboard.. if you want the keyboard it is an option and a better one than other tablets have.. and I fail to see anyone griping about other tablets more or less lack of productivity options and this seems to be the lowest priced tablet when you take into account bang/buck.

However, not having one I am probably speaking a bit to soon. If I were to get a tablet I would probably end up opting for the transformer because, it would be enough to last me a day in college, seems thin/light and being modular is a + since I could type on it at school take the keyboard off at home for ebook purposes (if I chose) or hell even use it in lieu of my desktop for general studying purposes..

I was just wondering if anyone had any issues with the productivity side of the tablet.. If anyone has been typing up a document and frequently has it start lagging or if the keyboard itself had any inherent quirks I should be aware of. I've read the "professional" reviews here and there but, I always try to account for reviewers who spend some time with it.. Vs. people who actually use it day in day out for weeks at a time.

I've had no issues with the keyboard. I do have to be careful and not accidentally let my palm hit the trackpad but I have had that same problem on every laptop I've ever used. And you're spot on with the benefits of being able to switch between tablet for e-reading and netbook usage. I love the TF, best gadget purchase I've ever made! Get it you won't regret it'

The only lag I get with typing is on some web forums. Not all do it. Doing other e-mails and using Polaris for Word/Excel documents I have had no issues with at all.

I do hit a wrong key now and then that will send me home or searching but that is to do with the size of the keyboard more than anything else. I'm still "learning" how to use it right. I also have slightly longer nails which I know makes it worse.

For doing light work like e-mail, web, office docs this is doing great for me. No way could i do my full job on this, but for most things it is fantastic!

I have not yet found an app that will allow me to create the newsletter that I create every month using MS Publisher. The main hangup is that I use images here and there, and they have to share their horizontal space with text. Every document app I've tried turns out not to be able to do this.

I've also tried using the browser to create a newsletter on Google Docs. I can do this on my W7 laptop using any "normal" browser, such as Chrome. But the browser on my Asus cannot place text adjacent to an image in Google Docs.

In every case the presence of an image forces the new text down to a line below the image, leaving a large blank area where I want the text.

I would happily pay a premium price for a desktop publishing app that allowed pasting of images inside of text boxes.

But I LOVE the keyboard dock. To eliminate the problem with accidentally activating a mouse click while typing text press the key that is the 4th from the left on the top row. When you're ready to use the pad again click that button again.

I may consider saving up for one.

I gave up on laptops a while back because, I find myself wanting more "powerful" laptops which drain batteries..

And I have trouble balancing "power" and "battery".

I eventually just got a desktop because, my old laptop would heat up and is going to die sooner than later..

I have trouble justifying bring a laptop to school due to size/battery consumption... (it is a few years older and only gets 2 or 3 hours max.. which back then was pretty good as I needed an all around device.... )

But, truth be told I have a desktop now for any hardcore documents I need to type up.. (EX: long papers/programming/gaming).

However, a device that is for heavy note taking/word processing has some power usage features but, isn't over kill in terms of hardware seems nice.

No worries about heat.. No worries about powering up/turning off.. able to remove the keyboard while browsing web going back and forth between textbooks/writing on pen/paper..

I have been against tablets for so long.. the transformer is literally transforming my opinion of them.
