What DON'T you like about Gingerbread

A couple of gripes with the new theme and colors:

In the official Facebook (from facebook themselves) application the news feed background turns from light-gray to white when scrolling). I assume this is a by-product of the Motorola re-theming/re-coloring of the OS. Really annoying. (I think this was mentioned earlier in this thread)

The color of the Bluetooth icon on the notification bar is just dumb. Unfilled (hollow) logo when disconnected, filled white when connected. It was (prior to the update) filled-blue when connected. I find this silly since they re-colored so many of the notification icons blue when active (wi-fi, 3g). Too nitpicky?

A lot of the icons on menus seem inconsistent. Some are dark, some are light. I can't decide if the colors hold some type of hidden meaning or a side effect of the new theme.

The radial gradient (the light bloom) behind the keypad on the dialer is just ugly.

The PIN lockscreen is strange-looking (solid-white buttons). I'm OK with it, but why not make it consistent with the dialer? Make it consistent with anything else on the phone??

So how does one go about removing gingerbread and going back???

SBF back to FroYo... I did it twice yesterday, and I'm leaving it on FroYo until another GB update comes out that at least fixes the Compass/Maps issue.

WARNING: unless you have a back-up, you'll likely lose all your data.

I used the instructions here -> Complete Droid X .sbf Flashing Guide - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

And downloaded RSD Lite 4.9 from the link here -> Droid X SBF

The only issue I ran into was that on rebooting that RSD Lite does, the X would boot-loop. I unplugged, battery pulled, entered recovery (home + power button, then search button when "!" comes up), wiped/formatted data/cache, and all was good - other than having a completely stock phone with no info or apps on it.

1. HUGE PROBLEM. Data connection just simply stops working on WiFi after random periods of use. I have to turn it off and on again repeatedly to continue browsing, getting data.

2. Frequent redraws of the homescreens using Launcher Pro.

3. The camera defaulting to widescreen. (Note: Widescreen is just cutting off the top and bottom of the standard aspect ratio). Give me all my damn pixels!

4. Battery is definitely not better. It seems to be the same if not worse.

5. The elastic scrolling limiter animation (what happens when you scroll to top or bottom of a list) is stupid. It used to be just fine and more intuitive.

6. My notification window widgets from Widgetsoid are now jacked up. Instead of just hitting the widget, it now pops up a SECOND popup widget and I have to hit the widget again. Annoying.

7. The black text on white settings menus. I prefer the inverse. Minor.

8. Things do not feel speedier. In fact, many things feel slower.

9. The color scheme overall is not that great. I like not having a white notification bar, though.

10. Hard button lights. Their behavior is not the same, more erratic, and way brighter. I downloaded AdjBrightness app to turn them off completely.

11. The weird bacon shaped icon that tells me my phone is on vibrate. Minor.

12. LED behavior. You tell me.

Things I DO like:

1. The dialer is nicer.

2. The text edit cursor is easier to move around.

3. The unnecessary AM and PM are removed from the notification bar.

Gingerbread is a big step back for me. I may go back to Froyo, or wait and see if some custom GB ROMs can fix these problems.

This is NOT a normal attribute of Gingerbread. I was having similar problems on Froyo. If you are using Launcher Pro Plus you should uninstall and reinstall. For some reason LPP just starting doing crazy things to my phone. I was really cussing it. The same for my wife who was using a D2. Uninstalling and reinstalling LPP made both of our phones run smoothly.

I'm running the light version of Launcher Pro. Perhaps this would still cause a problem? It's actually running a bit better now, but I am still unable to access my SD card. I will try this and see if it works. Otherwise, I may just have to do a factory wipe.

I like most of Gingerbread so far (haven't seen some of the issues here). But one thing I did notice is that the stock text app no longer allows you to resize a video you want to send.

Previously, I realized that if I had the video set on VGA, and took less than 35 seconds, I could send using the stock app (I normally use handcent) and it would allow me to resize (if it was longer than 35 sec I would usually have to crop). That way, I could take a video at a higher quality resolution, but send it lower.

I tried that last night, and it didn't work. I did see (through clicking on multiple menus) how to resize the video to 2 different formats, which changed the 16 MB file (it was about 32 seconds) to about 1.4 and 1.9 MB, neither of which allowed me to send via text.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is there an easier way to send videos via MMS? And what is the max size that VZW will allow (I see Handcent lets you change the max allowable)

I was having many of the issues listed here so I finally did a factory reset and reloaded all of my apps one at a time. It took forever, but now my DX is running way better.

The problem that was bothering me the most was that my imap mail was not pulling on schedule, I had to manually update it. Was using K9 mail, but since update and reset, stock emails app is working well for me.

I am having a weird problem with GO Launcher. When I take my phone off of the desktop dock, the wallpaper is smaller than the screen. I have to go into stock home and back to GO using a home switcher app in order to clear the problem. Got an update for GO this morning, so it may be fixed.

Highly recommend the full factory reset if you are having problems.

I do like GB; it's running nicer than Froyo, although it may be because I did a full clean/reset/and everything before updating.

HOWEVER:

Those hard button lights are ridiculously bright.
Apparently you can no longer use "Turn Display On" in Tasker with GB because they removed the function.
The popup menus are just...weird now, all backwards and funky.
The constant brightening of my screen whenever I open certain apps or windows. Seriously. I turned auto brightness off for a reason.

I do like:

The notification bar being darker.
I don't mind that weird blue buzz; it looks rather funky to me.

I'm not a fan of the weird blue blob/box/whatever which occurs when you try to scroll passed the end of a list. I don't see it's purpose.

That crazy semi transparent window shade at the top and bottom of the screen when you scroll is annoying.

the blue fade is part of Gingerbread...in AOSP Gingerbread its orange...Moto changed it to Blue for Blur...

Wallpaper randomly disappears and only doc shows (using launcher pro).I'm pretty disappointed in this release. Was really excited but man, so let down!

thats a launcher pro issue, not gingerbread...

I guess I'm the only one seeing better battery life on his X after OTA GB?

What I don't like:
1. When placing a call while phone is in car dock: the screen does a slight rotate to the left, like it's trying to go from landscape to portrait. Then the screen goes blank, comes back up in portrait before rotating back to landscape. Annoying... the phone is sitting in landscape mode, can't GB figure that out without going through all that?
2. App drawer placement.
