Help Way too many applications won't work...

Seriously contemplating taking this phone back....

I've found that NONE of the video chat apps work with the front facing camera. None of the flashlight apps work with the LED. Ringtones/SMS notifications FC quite a bit and BING SUCKS.

I never realized just how much I relied on hitting the hard search button and speaking my navigation destination in and Google maps launched. That's dead now with BING installed, and apparently no way to change it unless you want to clutter your homescreen with the Google widget.

I love the speed/resolution/feel of the phone, but the apps make the phone, not the hardware itself.

If I'm wrong and looking in the wrong places for apps, someone please enlighten me. :)

If you're up against your trial deadline, then that's your call. But responsible developers know that timing is important and I know they grab new models as soon as they can (or as soon as someone reports their app doesn't work). I haven't found anything critical to me that I couldn't get to work. Though a cool idea, I have no real interest in video chat and have no doubt an app will be updated within weeks. Same goes for flashlights. I don't find the Google widget a big annoyance, though I understand you'd like the button functionality. For me, the fact that all my GO apps worked (GO Launcher, Contacts, SMS and Keyboard) and that I could get my Exchange e-mail with the native progam were the biggest plusses. I'll give the developers a little time to catch up with the rest and I'm betting it won't take long. - MarkC

I hope you get what suits you best. The Thunderbolt right now is probably your best since it had been out the longest.

I haven't tried video chat yet do I downloaded Qik, ooVoo, and Tango. Tango was the only one that looked like it would work but I didn't have anyone to call to test it.

The only led app I've got to work is Flashlight, just remember to use the back key to turn it off. It could be worse, we didn't have any kind of led flashlight on the OG Droid for months!

Not sure what your problem is with ringtones/sms. I used Zedge for ringtones and Handcent for sms without issues.

I agree about the search button! Apparently several people on here always used the widget instead of the button anyways which I just don't get. I setup Wave Launcher with Goole search and voice search and I'm happy with it, sometimes it's even quicker than the button was on my Droid.

If you rely so much on the bottom search button for all your search, navigations, I'm a bit puzzled that you didn't know Bing is there before getting this phone. It would be no problem for me to use screen widgets, icons for all Google stuffs until ROMs, fixes are developed for replacing default bing with google.

Thanks for the heads up on Flashlight!! Will be perfect when widget comes out. :)

Tango (I can tell you) doesn't work with the front camera, only the rear one. I tried this trying to chat with another Android phone and and (gulp) Iphone 4, and they both could only see the back camera as being active.

My wife has an Iphone 4 (which we don't discuss), so I was looking for some 3rd party app that was cross platform and Tango/Qik were the only two that I could find...but again, the front facing camera on the Revolution didn't work.

I have until Saturday (a week) to hope that some of the apps are updated, and yes I knew BING was on the phone, but didn't realize how deeply embedded it was in the OS.

Thanks for the info...I really appreciate it!

I completely agree that I would love to be able to change the capacitive search button to open Google Search and Google Voice Search on a long press. I'm hoping for a software OTA that allows you to choose between Google and Bing.

I'm still unsure of what voice calling apps are available and supposed to work.

I did find a flashlight app that works, Searchlight in Samsung Tab mode works for my LG REVO. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.codaya.hami9.flashlight&feature=search_result

I have installed the following apps from the Android market to virtually un-Bing/VZ my phone.

Google Search
Google Voice Search
Dolphin Browser
Car Home Ultra (car dock app)
Vlingo is another search app you may like.

To truly un-Bing we will have to root and uninstall the Bing apps. Or be blessed with an OTA that allows you to choose Google.

Hey guys,

There is currently an issue with the front facing camera not working properly with Tango. We have just received our LG Revolution in the office and have begun testing it. We hope to release a fix soon. Thanks for your patience!

is there a reason you chose not to buy it thru best buy (with a 30-day trial period)?

I'd guess because some of us like to deal with the carrier and get new phones on release day, but that's a great point. I didn't know Best Buy gave you 30 days to return. Something to consider in the future!

I kind of wish I could afford to just buy whatever phone I wanted when something cool came out instead of waiting for contract pricing.

I have to tell you.. .this 14 day trial period stinks. They used to give you a 30 worry free guarantee. (Steven shakes his head).

I have to agree, the 14 days period SUCKS, especially considering the salesmen at Verizon wouldn't know how to successfully explain phone functions if their life depended on it...
Verizon, at&t are now in cahoots...this is one indication of cooperate cronyism not caring one bit for customer satisfaction, spelling disaster for end user.
I am so sorry that I signed on that bottom line, now I am stuck with these losers for two freaking years!
Verizon sucks
LG Revolution sucks....don't waste your money folks.
