Help Battery life when playing games

Hi everyone, Im new here and happy to be part of the community!

I got my Galaxy S2 a few days ago and I have a few questions about the battery life of the phone.
After I downloaded the application Angry Birds and played it for a few hours (that game is addictive!), the battery only lasted 3-4 hours, not to mention that there was a heating problem. I had allowed the battery to empty completely before the second recharge and so the battery was almost full when I started playing. I was wondering if this is normal for such a phone, as in that it doesn't do well when playing games? This is the first time I own a phone like this (no iphone ever, so nothing to compare to), so I don't know what to expect from it and its battery life.

When its being used for downloading apps or just net-browsing, it seems to go for about 8-12 hours, but not sure. I'll be testing it some more while checking out the clock in the next few days, but all I know is that the battery life when playing games is in my opinion NOT good and such a phone should be capable of more.

Im on Android 2.3.3 and no signs of updates.

I have heard 2.3.4 is available to some users, but does it fix the battery problems? Should I be getting the update and if I should, why isn't Kies informing me about the new update?

Extra question: How is the picture quality for all of you? When Im outdoors the quality seems pretty good, but when inside (even when pics are taken in good lighting) the pictures are incredibly grainy and "hazy." Normal too?

Oh, does the opening screen have some odd vertical stripey appearance to it? I have tried various pictures (hi&low quality) and its noticeable in all images. I have a "gallery-app" in my home screen and the stripey appearance in the pictures being shown there is also noticeable. Once again, since this is the first time I own a phone like this, is this normal?

Thanks again,
Kathy (No, Im not looking for Heathcliff - OR Am I? :D)

Hi,

I played some Angry Birds again and the battery lasted for about 3 hours, even with the screen at minimum and very few background programs on. This is quite disapointing in my opinion. Does anyone know if this problem has been fixed with the new firmware?

No yellow tinge in my phone, at least that I have noticed. The stripey appearance bothers me a bit though, but since I don't know if its normal...

stripy appearance?? never heard of it and im finding it hard to picture it :-/.
in regards to gaming, yup battery does drop mega quick but i get more than 3 hours from a full charge :D. make sure u dont have auto syncing on and try to use black backgrounds (they save battery).

Vengence, where can I turn off auto sync? And the stripes are indeed an odd thing...Wish I could take a picture of the screen but I doubt it would show. :-(

Edit - Found it! I'll search what its for and then disable it. The black background pic thing sounds good too. Thanks for the tip. I just wish 3 hours weren't the max the phone lasts...

6 1/2hrs of playing angry birds on stock S2 with KE2 + juicedefender free version and wifi enabled checking email every hour = so far lasted just over 9 1/2hrs :) Pretty happy with that so far. I have Energizer XP8000 battery pack which i use for my Acer 3810T notebook, which has CB31 tip for Samsung Galaxy S so it should work with Galaxy S2 as well so see how that fairs :)

Wow, 9 hours??? There has got to be something wrong with my battery! Just by browsing the internet with very few programs running in the back and screen set to minimum I only get 6 hours of usage. I also noticed that the application that is running down my battery is the 'display.' Its at 62% half of the time, no matter what I do and android is at 10%.

Screen brightness is at 25% right now. So it can't be the that...And I also don't have a moving wallpaper, though I do love them. :(

Oh, I also tried rebooting by removing the battery and placing it on again. Nothing changed.

my brightness is at 0%. i would suggest rooting ur phone but im guessing you dont want to void your warranty??

3 hours sounds about right to me. The Vibrant's smaller 4" screen doesn't do much better if at all with its sissy battery, and I believe your phone has the same battery capacity. For years there's been just too much power demanded from these little batteries, and your phone is at the peak of that inefficiency.

I have a 5000mAH USB battery I keep handy to keep my family's devices charged while on the go, and just leave it plugged into any phone doing any gaming. Look for "Trent iDual-Port Pack IMP50D" on Amazon. Or get really nuts (like me) and get the 16000mAH "i.Sound Portable Power Max". Kind of a must have with any smartphone, especially these Godzilla phones coming out now.
