Help Gingerbread battery life... in a word... sucks

Anyone else suffering like this?

After the update, I had used the phone for 15 hours and still had 87% battery life. You might do a factory reset and wipe the data. It never hurts.

Yesterday I used the phone quite a bit, including a 45 minute phone call, and still had 84% battery left at the end of a 14 hour day (unplugged). You may have a bad app.

I still have a hard time understanding the people who are EXTREMELY disappointed that their phone doesn't last more than one day. I'm constantly hearing people talk about how they now have to charge their phone EVERY night, while the phone they had before lasted 2, 3 4 or even 5 days before having to recharge it. Now don't get me wrong, I DO understand if your not able to make it through the day, but most of the complaints I hear are about only making it a day and a half. Or, I was all the way down to 20 percent when I plugged it in last night to go to bed. I'm just not getting it. I've tried to come up with reasons why it is so difficult to put the phone on the charger but I just can't come up with anything. Well.... I came up with one. If you don't have electricity and you have a generator connected to a stationary bike to charge your phone. That would be very inconvenient but I'm guessing that is pretty unlikely.

For me, if I make it through the day and my phone dies on me just as I lay down to go to bed. That is perfect! That means I'm getting the most power out of my phone, it's as fast as it can run and get me through the day. If I have half a battery left, that means to me that the phone needs to be overclocked so I get more speed throughout the day. It takes me 5 seconds to plug my phone in at night. By having a processor speed that kills my battery by bed time, I'm saving a lot more than 5 seconds.

True...I charge mine every night as I have a dock to turn it into my alarm clock. If you're burning 100% of your battery in 5 hours, then there is an issue.

To the OP have you checked the battery stats and seen what is using up your battery? The battery stats have improved in Gingerbread and show a lot more. Also if you click on the chart at the top it will show details around when your GPS is on and when your phone had service and so on, things that could kill your battery faster (GPS searching for no reason and searching for service).

To the last comments I agree, I want a phone that I can get 16 hours from and the X does that with no problems with my normal use. I also look at my phone as a mini laptop, because it does almost everything my laptop does and more. I am lucky to get 4 hours of use on my laptop battery. I know they are different, but I am just saying.

Yesterday afternoon I was at 36 hours and still had 30% charge (went to the lake and forgot my charger). Granted, that was with only a few calls and using the phone very little. Plus, the phone didn't move from a table for about 12 of those hours.

Today, after 8.5 hours I am at 70% with moderate use.

Frankly I see no real difference between Froyo and GB. I'm happy to get 12-14 hours of moderate use from a device like this. In many ways it does more than my lap top and I'm lucky to make it 4 hours with that energy hog.

I have similar issue. My DX used to do 1.5 days no problem. Now it barely gets through the day. The battery life is still OK, but it got worse after the GB update. Yes I understand that I don't need it to be more than a day. but the thing is that usage varies from day to day. If it always has 20-40% left at midnight (which was what I had with Froyo), I feel confident that I can abuse my DX next day and it'll still last me the whole day. If it has 50% left at 2pm (which is what I have now), I start to limit my use of the phone, which is NOT fun.

I just did a PRL update. A data wipe is in order if it doesn't get better. And a factory reset next. Any other idea? Thanks.

I use mine pretty heavy I guess...

Pandora streaming over 3G for 8hrs a day at work
Texting all day, with a few calls
Some browsing forums/facebook/twitter/email/etc.. over wifi and some 3G
Random things here and there (games/market/etc..)

With all that I get 12hrs+ easy.. wake up unplug it at 7:30, plug it back in around 10:30 or so (usually around 30% by then)..

I be sure to never leave the screen on unless I am using it also..

Performance battery mode and I'm using the stock launcher with all the screens full of apps/widgets..

Quickclock settings:

Battery Saver
300MHz 17VSEL
540MHz 29VSEL
720MHz 35VSEL
900MHz 46VSEL

Phone runs so smooth on GB there is no reason to OC it.. I need to redo the settings though, this is my same profile from .595, I might could drop the VSELs down one or two..

Then if I don't use it and try to save the battery I can get over a day easy.. So I don't know what's wrong with you guy's GB, but mine rocks. :D
