Anyone playing with Google Music Beta?

I got Music Beta set up on the web site and have been playing with it. The android app says it is not compatible with the hero and won't download. Has anyone heard of a work around for this yet?

I wanted to give Music Beta a chance, but so far it is lacking a ton of features for it to compete with other services. I would like to test it out on my phone but I don't think I am going to be tearing down my Subsonic server anytime soon.

If you're not on a rom that is 2.2 and higher then your rom is not compatible. Google music beta is for phones 2.2 and higher;)

What rom are you on?

yes. The issue is that you can not even download the app from the market. It says hero is not supported. Even stock heros have 2.2 I think. Though it has been over a year since I have been stock.

Digging around the help files I found a spot that says OpenGL 2.0 is also a requirement, though they don't say this anywhere on the Android Market. Maybe OpenGL is the issue?

The Sprint HTC Hero was only updated as far as Android 2.1 with Sense UI. To get Android 2.2 and Android 2.3 you have to root and flash custom ROMs.

The OpenGL MIGHT be the culprit, but AOSP Android 2.3 should get around that because the build.prop was edited to fool apps into thinking it has OpenGL ES 2.0. Usually, when an app on the Sprint HTC Hero requires OpenGL ES 2.0, it really does not need it and OpenGL ES 1.0 or OpenGL ES 1.1 works just fine.

I'm running it just fine on AOSP 2.3 - I d/l an apk and all has been well since then: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/21457883/com.google.android.music.apk
