Ok, so I don't like to double post, but I have had my Nexus S 4G all day today and have put it through the paces. I'm coming from a Droid Incredible which, other than less than perfect call quality, was a phenomenal phone. I had several different ROMs including Sense 2.0, 3.0, CM7 (nightlies from about 59 through 100), and a couple of stock variations.
A few things I've noticed that bug me:
During daylight, the buttons at the bottom are not visible. They aren't in the same place and that will take some time to get used to.
There is no SD card and I'm limited to the internal card. 16Gigs is a lot, but I'd still prefer external. I know why they did it, but why not still have 16 gigs internal and leave a slot for an external for the user...
4G speeds stink on this phone. Even with two bars on the 4G meter, I couldn't get over 800K download. I was getting that with 3G on my Dinc. Is this a Nexus problem or is it a 4G problem?
I have had two Dincs. The first AMOLED (samsung screen) and the second an S-LCD. I've grown to appreciate the sharpness of the S-LCD over the AMOLED. The screen definitely isn't as sharp and there is a strange blue tint to the screen if not viewing straight on.
No LED notifications sucks. I know there is a little utility that makes the screen display notifications but I'd prefer LEDs...
Overall I've had a number of strange bugs pop up. I've had several force closes in the market, one reboot using GO SMS, and Swiftkey giving me odd behaviors from time to time. I keep losing the dictionary and it goes back through the install process. Overall it seems "buggy" given I've only used it for one day. Not entirely unlike CM7. Just little things here and there...
Good stuff:
I like the curved face. At first I didn't but it seems to help overall use and avoid blue tinting at the edges. It also fits my melon head better.
From the few phone calls I had today, call quality seems top notch. It kicks my Dinc's butt for sure as that phone suffers from clipping in fringe signal areas. All of my calls were crystal clear (all 10 or so of them).
It is very "snappy" overall but I expect that from vanilla android as I experienced how blazing quick CM7 was when it wasn't bogged down with carrier and OEM bloat.
Getting the first real Ice Cream Sandwich will certainly be a kick in the pants. It will take a while for everyone else and for that, the Nexus is to be applauded. Perhaps all OEMs should be forced to sell a Vanilla Android device and allow users to choose vanilla or OEM bloatware with things like Blur, Sense, and such.
I'm going to hang onto it for a couple of weeks and see how users like the HTC Evo 3D. If the reviews are stellar, I may jump ship as I can always root and go CM7 for vanilla....
