Get 2 days of battery on your Eris --> follow this tip

I didn't make that tutorial, the threads that are stuck in this section of mine are more like compilations of various post from throughout the threads here that I find to work.

I was very leary of adding this particular tip cause I don't like the idea of it by principle, it was pushed hard by a member named Grimster who now that I think back may have been Onion/Napster.

Regardless, the tip does work, it does save battery considerably, at that time Grimster touted 6 days with it off. I can't deal with no emails instantly. I own 4 forums and I admin/maintain about 10 other websites so I kinda need to be connected.

Well, thanks for doing the leg work for us then. Don't get me wrong I still use data, just when I have time and bored. Otherwise, the battery savings are substantial. Grimster...that fool don't know nothin....just a troll and napster...don't know nothing about him except he's got two user names.

I wanted to reiterate the point to some business users complaining about battery life that can't make a call at the end of the day. There are solutions to these issues (chargers, car chargers) but maybe they don't get around to it. Also, it takes a while to get a full charge on our phones, like 4 hours?, and for someone in business you can't wait that long. I have a 2 hour commute in the morning and I'm constantly on the web and listening to music or watching a movie. By the time I get to my destination, less than half of my battery is gone. Takes all day to charge if I use my USB cable to my laptop too. So for those who want a full day out of their phones I would tell them to do this. Make a shortcut on the homepage and switch on/off throughout the day to check emails and surf and stuff.

Am I missing something?

I can not believe that leaving your phone on airplane mode at night would save more battery then turning it off and turning it on in the morning...sorry.

I think he's right about the power consumption. It takes more energy to start up than to leave in airplane mode. There has to be some drain though, 1%, maybe. Can't use no power at all.

i can't believe this info was posted when the original thread is just a few slots above... a bit repetitive.

Eh, just wanted to report on my findings of this tip. Some may like to know how well it works...

Being able to turn off various connection settings via a simple tap makes the battery complaints pointless. When im not.using. the phone i Simply turn of all data connections. Whem i go to bed i put it on airplane mode. Now ive only had this phone for two days and I've used it a lot, no battery problems for me.

Any results Caddyman? I put my phone last night in airplane mode at 10:45pm with 55% battery and when I turned airplane more off this morning at 7:45am and I had 55% battery. So that process uses some battery, but not even 1%. I do think that my phone says is does not drain any battery for a little while and then real quick it will drop 3-4% or more, so I am not sure how accurate that HTC CORPORATION BATTERY WIDGET is.

Jeefyo - It's like standby time, for the Eris is 373 hours (on Verizonwireless.com) (that's 15.5 days). So for every 8hrs using them method, 100% of battery / by 15.5 days is 6.45%/day and / that by 3 (8hrs is 1/3 of a day) is 2.15% so by that theory it should drain accordingly.

Who knows wether it drains more during this process or by turning it off, but this process works for me. Oh well. Sorry for the trouble Caddyman!

I, for one, think putting it in airplane mode is a good idea. Just keep a widget on your home screen to turn it on and off and it's just like wifi and 3G. I expect texts during the night (not important ones, but..) and in the morning I wake up and respond to them. I guess I could still have it in airplane mode and let them all come in at once, but, fortunately, I don't have to get to work despite getting up somewhat early so I can charge it within an hour or two and be fine.

Still, I think I may end up putting the airplane mode widget just to try it out. If you're in a meeting for a few hours, why not? You won't be answering your phone anyways and it's not like voice mail turns off during this time as well.

im checking these off the htc battery widget.

well last night at 11pm i turned my phone completely off and it was at 18% battery

this morning i turned it on, it went through the start up routine, loaded sense, and it was at 25%, quickly dropped to 22%, then after about 30 minutes it was down to 17%

I will test airplane mode tonight.

ok i put the phone in airplane mode last night. it went into air mode at 68% battery, when i woke it up this morning it was at 67%

So conclusion. turning it off or airplane mode are about the same.

My battery lasts almost 2 days with normal usage and I never turn it off. I would have bought a small brick and carried it around if all I wanted was a paperweight. Instead, I bought a phone and I keep it on all the time. The way a phone was intended to be used.

I would have called the person that posted about conditioning your battery a liar had I not done it myself and seen the results.

The first week I had my phone I was lucky to get 8 or 9 hours out of my phone before it was close to needing a charge. But I had read on here that conditioning your battery is a must so I followed that info. I let the thing go dead for several nights before putting it on the charger. Now I get a whole day and part of the next before it needs to be charged. I still let it get close to dead before charging it.

I just don't get the whole "Turn all of your phones features off and while your at it turn the phone off too and your battery will last years on a single charge" crap. Why buy a damn smart phone if your going to use it like a regular cell phone?

I think the foul misconception with the conditioning thing is just terminology.

If you read the authority battery info, they say there is no need for conditioning, but at the same time there is a need for calibrating if you use a device that has a built in meter (like our phones).

So really what we were calling conditioning should have been called calibrating.

I will admit my error in terminology then. :D

When reading my above post please replace the word "conditioning" with the word "calibrating". :p

i wasn't correcting you, just explaining something you had touched on "I would have called the person that posted about conditioning your battery a liar had I not done it myself and seen the results." as i felt the same way originally.

I was hoping my smiley faces would elude to my sarcasm as I knew where you were coming from. I have seen you post enough on here to kind of get a read as to what you mean. Unlike some here, I do in fact have a damn good sense of humor and enjoy taking it as much as I enjoy dishing it out. :D

Yes. I keep 3G on. I make several calls during the day. Maybe between 10 or 20. Not sure on that number. I also text like a freaking addict. I surf a bit and get several emails throughout the day.

Okay I was going to ask you a lot of questions but then i noticed that your phone is Moto Droid..you're in the wrong forum buddy
