3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

This is going to be my first Android smartphone... The anticipation is killing me!!! June 24th can't come soon enough. I can't wait to fool around with this thing and start developing Applications for it.

I am with you Geddon. My first smartphone, looks like the best android thus far. I have been with Sprint for a decade and would have gotten a Iphone earlier if they had offered it. But the EVO3D is a beast, I think it one-ups Iphone in every way except it seems like 80% of the really good smartphone games are exclusive to Ios, because they offer opengl sound and whatnot.

I am excited to show it to friends and co-workers. I am not much of a gadget/tech head and don't usually go around to showing off new gadgets, but people are gonna straught up ask to look at the display. Most of the people I know haven't even seen a 3DS yet so the glasses free 3d should illicit their curiosity.

When you start showing it to co-workers, get used to hearing "Is that an iPhone?" or "is that a new iPhone?"

It happens.

This is what will likely make/break the evo3d for me; if the chosen lcd is good I'll probably go with this else it iwll likely be the s2. We know the resolution and of hte 3d layer but nothing else about this panel.

I'd have to say the CPU.. I'm on the EVO, which is single core.. Also, the qHD screen, more vibrant with colors then the EVO. Lol. Also, the 3D option is quite interesting.. Wouldn't use it much, but looks pretty legit. Over all I'd give this phone a 4.6 rating out of 5.

Your going to love the 3D that is all I can say. My 1st smartphone was the HTC TP2 windows mobile and at 1st I loved it then it started locking up alot and I was hard resetting it a bunch and I didn't like it anymorel. Sold it for 150 with a chip on the side and Sprint gave me a one time 50 dollar credit to resign so here came the EVO for free and it was and still is the best phone I've ever had.

If the 3D wasn't coming out then I would of kept my EVO for another year it's that great. But I was running out of space and I want the new Sense 3.0 don't care much about the 3D part but it's still going to be one heck of a phone and I can't wait for it to come out. Once again I sold my EVO for 150 and this time Sprint gave me a 100 dollar one time courtesy credit to resign which I have to do here on the 24th anyway. But in the mean time I bought back an EVO cause I thought the 3D was coming out on the 4th and missed my phone so much. But now I am stuck paying that 35 dollar restocking fee but that's ok. I have an EVO and will return it after next week and then get the 3D which I have on preorder at my Sprint store. People ask me all the time oh is that the new iphone and I am like no it's better. LOL!

I am running a ROM on my EVO 4g with pieces of sense 3.0 and there are so many ways to reach
frequent apps
... dam overkill

This is the pull down notification bar ... i liked it better with quick power control widgets on the top, HTC should of thought about implementing that... and maybe have the quick setting tab be favorite apps

here is another way of reaching frequent apps .. holding down home button... can be accessed from anywhere just like above method ... two things doing the same thing now.

And here is the application button which takes u to another screen (apps, frequent, downloads) with the star being frequent instead of favorites ...

How many ways do we need to reach frequent apps ... they def should of made one of them pull up favorite apps that could of been customized

If i am missing something .. please correct me .. who knows if this will change on the day of release but this is overkill to me in which they could of implemented more useful features ...

sorry for the rant .. just had to get that off my chest .. i feel better now .. how do we get HTC to read this ...LMAO :thinking: ;)

The second one is a standard Android method. It's for the multi-tasking element. iPhones, and it's associated brethren, also have the same thing if you hold the home button. The third one is also a standard Android feature. I don't know when you guys got it, but us DX users got it with GB.

HTCSense.com? I'm assuming it'll have all of the stuff that was announced with the Desire HD/Z plus whatever new stuff they came up with "Sense" then.

Zing!!!

Yeah, that's the one. Haven't heard anything being mentioned about it since that video surfaced a while back. There was some really cool stuff on the website but I can't remember what it was, I'll have to look up that video again.

I have to admit that I've become almost an addict of watching the reviews of the new phones and the Sensation vs S2 videos are making me lean more towards the S2. I swear this is one of the hardest buying decisions I've ever had to make.

So I got the chance to stop by Verizon today. I wanted to see the Droid Charge to check out the Super AMOLED Plus hype and I vs honestly say I don't see where all of it comes from. All the colors look unnaturally off, through many comparisons I did with my EVO 4G and the SLCD on the thunderbolt. I honestly found the SLCD more pleasing to look at, as well and had better color reproduction. The AMOLED also wasn't very bright at all, and the whites once again had the blue tint. I'm not trying to be a fanboy here, but I honestly never saw the hype behind the Sammy screens and preferred the EVO when it came to color reproduction. Oh, and TouchWiz looks like a peice of Crap, like they honestly tried to make it look low quality. That is all, lol.

Both of these things are really great ideas. The power control and other widgets should be on the first screen at the top, that is where they belong for ease of access. Especially now that in gingerbread they removed the "connect to mobile network" shortcut from the long press of the power button I'm going to be using notification drop down short cuts and they need to be right there, easy to customize and toggle. 3G, 4G and Brightness are a must.

Favorite apps tab under the other notifications tab is a brilliant idea, lets you access all your favorite apps, not just the 6 most recently used, easily without having to back all the out to the home screen and application tray.

Most excited that It is going to be my first smartphone.

so basically everything:

nice pictures, video, fast web browsing, widgets, big screen, games, useful apps, replace my ipod, fun 3d ability, google powered, tethering, checking my forums & facebook, maybe get me into twitter, most of all i can rub it in my friend's face who loves everything that Apple puts out and consistently tells me how superior they are to android.

I'm super pumped.

Oh.....to be young again. While I'm excited for the EVO 3D, I don't quite have the fervor I did when I was waiting for months for the EVO ever since the code name leaked out as the SuperSonic. The EVO 4G forums back then were at a fever pitch!

*Coughs violently* Ugh....I feel old.

(Just messing, it's only been about a year! :D )
